New Loa NPCs on PTR

So it turns out that there are two new Loa NPCs on the PTR in the files.

Shango, the Darkspear loa of storm and lightning that we’ve never seen outside of a single blessing.

Lokou, a shadowhunter loa, the only canon mention is a spell for a shadowhunter unit from the mission table. In the RPG Lokou is a Loa of healing.

also this spell was datamined.

Will we see some Loa interactions/quests in the near future?

Maybe they are laying the ground work for Troll stuff down the line, so people don’t act like it came out of no where. Seeding the story/game for their turn at Heritage/Racial type stuff.

Blizzard has been pretty open to giving Players a bit more racial focus and appearances and lore, as well as cosmetics.

There’s also the possibility blizz is using these new loa to set up Loa’jins return as Loa of Kings down the road.

I have two theories.

  • Elements of the Darkspear heritage armor was put in the files ahead of time.
  • There’s going to be a loa quest chain, like how we had the Baine and the upcoming Velen one.

I doubt Loa’jin will become the Loa of Kings and replace Bwonsamdi. I bet he will rather get his own title like “Loa of the Horde” or something like that due to him being a past warchief and how he several times stated that he considers the Horde as his brothers and sisters.

Yeah. I totally forgot Bwom took over Rezans title. But you’re right, I can see Loa’jin becoming a really important loa to the horde

I’m cautiously optimistic about future story advancements for the Darkspear Trolls, but this looks interesting.

More and more RPG stuff making it to the canon lore

That’s a W

Well, 10.2 is all about Fyrrak trying to destroy the new World Tree, which is connected to Ardenweald. Seems like a good time for Vol’jin to finally make his return. Not sure how the playerbase will feel about this though.

Either Vol’jin plays a bit role and people get angry that he’s slighted, again, or he takes the main stage and Night Elves get ticked off at playing second fiddle to a troll in what is supposed to be THEIR storyline.

I like that train of thought!

Just gonna casually point out that

  1. These Loa are from the RPG
  2. These are two Loa that are verbatim from IRL African Traditional Religion, Loko/Lokou the Lwa from Voodoo and Shango the Orisha from Lukumi
  3. I am cautiously happy they are borrowing more from IRL ATRs in the spirit of Dambala and I hope one of the many rants those of us who were upset by villian batting/seemingly killing Dambala, who is not only based on an IRL Lwa but was also one of the primary Darkspear Loa for Shadowhunters, got through

Do we know what forms or animals these loa use? Like what are the models or have the names just been data mined. Im curious about the shadowhunter loa.

I hope blizzard realizes that not all loa need to be animals. Voljin and bwonsamdi are great examples.

Agreed. Hoping for a really badass shadowhunter loa

IRL Lokou is a harvest lwa, and it looks like they’re using a Draenor Sporeling model for him on Azeroth

Shango IRL is A Dude with Axes and was an ancestral king, so I hope they do a Troll King that ascended like Zanza and Bwon

This is why he’s my IC patron loa; lightning and axes makes him THE god of enhancement shaman.

I imagine this will have something to do with the Troll heritage.

Shango shows up with a Podling model too on the Wowhead database though, so I’m guessing it’s just a placeholder model ? Idk

yeah I hope/expect/demand they change the model lmao

Prolly did Lokou first and just copied for now

That’s cool, I felt the same about Lukou/ Lokou because I was a healer during my active raiding time and loved the idea that she literally rains positive energy on her allies
Super excited to see her being implemented in the game at last!
