Considering he was the guy in charge while all the damage was being done, there are enough reasons to dismiss him. To remain on the money he was on in spite of everything that has transpired certainly wouldn’t be a “good thing”.
Holy cow I’ll make more money this year than he will. With that said it’s good to see & I like the changes, but it shouldn’t have taken this long. My guess is this is a PR move for him because he’s afraid of losing his position.
I don’t think you understand how expensive marketing to promote diverse opportunity in a company at the size of Activision Blizzard, marketing in general is very expensive, if you add hiring and training as well, there’s no way 250 mil would cut it.
Let’s imagine ATVI has exactly 100 employees, where 77 are men and 23 are women/non-binary. To achieve the goal of a 50/50 split, they would just need to hire 54 more women/non-binary.
They can’t legally fire people on the basis of gender, and I’m reasonably sure it’s also not kosher to fire someone in order replace them at a lower pay rate.
Not even a teaser?
No, because again, it wasn’t about Blizzard Entertainment and their games.
Bobby Kotick doesn’t really talk about that stuff. That’s not his job.
Bumping percentage based on gender and not qualifications. That’s not a good step, it’s just replacing the unpopular sexism the popular sexism.
idk… this is just my 2 cents worth of an opinion and generally speaking, if it were not a case of there being issues, i would rather the “right” person for the “right job” be the deciding factor of employment.
doesnt matter what you are. imo you could be a space alien and be some 4th gender. if the skills brought are the best option then thats that. granted, 0 tolerance still should apply.
trying to match a 50/50 or a 33 33 33 or a 30 30 40 or what ever ratio seems more likely to leave out talent far more qualified for any given position.
on the other side of the coin. being too disproportionate could result in an unbalanced perspective.
(Reads letter.)
Good.
Should the employees manage to unionize, I can’t help but think the people who are going to have to the biggest issue with the zero tolerance policy will be the union itself.
True, Activision Blizzard has never and would not do such a thing.
His bonuses from last year was enough for a few years so a pay it now means nothing unless he stays getting paid that little for a while. If not it’s just for show means nothing.
And unless all 4 demands are met then nothing has changed his still a crappy person and the bliZ needs to meet ALL demands.
Idk why people bend over backwards for small acts like this.
Everything sounds great, except this part. It all depends on how they decide to implement this new policy, so we’ll see. Inclusion should definitely be the goal overall! With Affirmative Action already in place, it should (notice that word, please) already be policy for the company to take on the most qualified applicant–regardless of personal affiliations. We all know that this isn’t a perfect world, but progress for the sake of progress doesn’t typically end well.
No anger, please Take this subjective view with a grain of salt. I am human, after all.
OK… thought maybe he could have slipped something in in his closing remarks, like… “By the way 10.0 is going to be reflect the impact of these changes… get ready to be blown away!”
Jokes are funny, people.
His pay will remain at that level until Activision Blizzard reaches the goals it set, especially for inclusion/diversity. So it’s going to depend on how long it takes to fill those roles with the right people. If it takes 1 year for that goal to be reached, he’ll have that pay reduced for 1 year. If it takes 5 years or more, his pay will be that low for 5 years or more.
Just remove the sex/gender from applications and employee profiles. You already can’t ask about it in an interview. The only department that NEEDS that information is HR, for IRS purposes. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the male employees didn’t just changing their status to non-binary. It’s probably split that way so, they have a goal that is reachable. They maybe thinking that a 33% split might not be attainable, right now.
How in the world do you increase your non binary employees and why is that even important?
The issue with these people is that hiring based on qualifications doesn’t achieve the goals that they want. They are absolutely not concerned with hiring the best person for the job, only the gender and color of those who are hired, regardless of qualifications.
I have a feeling what direction that this company is taking us and it’s going do more harm than good.
It’s simple they’d fire off their current employees and replace them with minority and non binary people and pay them crap money. They’ll make sure everyone else loses and Bliz is the only one winning
