New Hunter needs help

I am new to being a hunter. I chose survival. I went to icy veins and wowhead for info but I am confused by the hit rating and do not know how to fix it. I am level 80 and it says my ranged hit is 10.47% but only 322 rating. How do I stop at 8% and have a 961 rating? How can 10% be only 322 rating when 8% in 961? Is the in game hit rating broken or is it read differently then all the help sites? Also one place says crit before haste and the other place says just the opposite.

Are you looking at the “ranged” stat?

Yes I am although they all say the exact same thing for the hit rate and percentage

961 hit rating is what is needed when you are level 85. As your level increases between 81-85 your hit rating will lower. Most cataclysm guides will be based on being the max level of 85.

When it comes to haste and critical rating you want to hit the haste soft cap of 757 after you are hit capped. Critical rating becomes priority after that cap has been reached.

Stats scale by your level, so 961 hit rating at 85 isn’t the same as 961 hit rating at 80 (and also realistically impossible to reach). The reason for this is as you level the gear you acquire naturally has more and more stats on it, so it’s a method to curb the scaling so that it doesn’t balloon wildly out of control

Just keep in mind that if a guide gives you a specific number for a stat, assume they are talking about at max level

To that end, your stats while still leveling are mostly irrelevant. It’s not really worth trying to min/max gear that’s just going to be replaced in 2 levels anyway

Because those guides are based off level 85 and not 80.

Thank You that is so plain and easy to understand.
