New Graphics or why Purist are Crazy

I understand what you are saying and for the most part I agree… as long as it isn’t a load on the server and causes absolutely no confusion than I support it as long as it’s not toggled on to begin with.

Allowing…
How are people’s choices are your concern and why?
I truly would understand if by switching this option ON they would turn into new models for YOU as well.
But why do you care what people do when they are the same for you as you for yourself? You won’t notice a thing if I walk by you, with my toggle on. It will not give you any hint that I’m using new models, animations, spells, cause it will be ON only for me. You will be seeing all old stuff as you want. I will be seeing all new. We are both happy and playing the same game with same balance.
What is the reason not to have this options I don’t understand.
Or maybe you are some kind of wow-Jesus to tell other people what they should do and what they shouldn’t?

Stop ressurecting old, bad, trolly threads.

What do you mean in vanilla. Movement speed is just a set of numbers for prefab to go from point A to point B. It has nothing to do with models/textures. You can throw a new spear and old spear into the target or jump from a cliff by bein old/new orc and they will hit/land at the same time. Cause its only a 3D box which listens to numbers. ANd if blizzards tell to all prefabs (characters colliders) move with 1.0 speed, they all will be moving with this speed, no matter how they look. That is why sometimes some models are sliding their feet when they are too big/to small for the regular speed of WoW.
Animation/vfx doesn’t have any impact on numbers of balance, its viceversa — listens to them and acts accordingly.

Hit boxes and range limiters are also just numbers for invisible box. Those numbers can be set automatically to match desired values. Also as I know old models of all race and new models of all race use the same values of hitboxes.

This is literally around one-two day of one client programmer work. If it’s even necessary.

the Jist of my question was… is the run animation on the new character models built for the old movement speed or does it look stupid?

It hasn’t to do anything with this issue. If Vanilla/Classic Taurens will preserve bigger hitboxes just cause “it was in vanilla™” it can be implemented for the new models of Taurens as well. Cause hitboxes aren’t part of the model as a core it’s just a box where you can place ANYTHING you want. You can make so that a gnome will have the same hitbox as vanilla tauren. It’s just numbers.

You can’t simply have a toggle option, when the new models where first introduced in WoD the old tauren faces where slightly altered, the night elf running animations where different and the old draeneis wheren’t even selectable anymore.

I think it has something to do with the way they are rigged on the skeletons, the new models have more bones, extra animations, and more hair polygons that went over the classic cap.

With the way Blizzard did it you can’t simply just have a toggle option, its not “completely optional” which is why they removed them in Legion because they weren’t able to support both models anymore.

The whole idea of classic is to give us a version of the game that is close as Blizzard can get it to the original. Loads of people come forward with ideas on how the game could be made “better.” We don’t want better. We don’t want the game larded up with crap that wasn’t in the original. We love the old game, there is absolute no reason to introduce changes that add nothing to the Vanilla experience.

When run animation is created, animators taking running speed in consideration. And if animator is skilled they will make animation properly without feet sliding

And as I KNOW when blizzards were remaking old races they took the same run/walk speed in consideration as well, so no matter which model you will use they will run/walk almost the same by speed and their feet will not slide visibly enough.
Sometimes they do though (you can see walk animation of a Peon and it slides right now in your very game). You just need to take a closer look. But no one will do that, most of the time people observing overall silhouette of animation not how feet works on a surface. THat is why sometimes races are animated poorly (like Zandalari inAir pose)

You are obviously more educated on this subject than I am. I agree with your plea and I support you in your endevours to get this added. As long as it is auto toggled off when first launching after install and it has no effect on server performance/gameplay.

It doesn’t do ANYTHING for your vanilla experience! LITERALLY. NOT. A SINGLE. THING.
If I use this option you don’t even KNOW IT. How is this influencing your experiencing if you don’t see what I do and what I use?
Your arguments are just this — “I’m purist, and I don’t like to think, I like repeat not very smart things that other people told me somewhere else, and I didn’t thought them out very much”.

As someone who has played the game since 2006, and owned every single expansion, I personally look forward to having updated graphics in Classic, and would also like a toggle that will allow me to have updated character models.

Fact of the matter is, I’m not looking to go back in time for the visual aspects of the game, which by modern standards, were horrendous.

What I am looking forward to returning to is the gameplay. The long hard grind that came with levelling, questing and travelling between zones, and the reward that came with it.

Personally, I feel there are many aspects of modern WoW that if complimented with the gameplay of Vanilla would add to an extremely amazing game. Such as the inclusion of updated graphics (via a toggle system) and adding in achievements.

The rest imho should remain the same as how Classic was.

Its also possible blizzard purposely did not implement these models for the sake of keeping some degree of separation between retail and classic. They would want people to be able to differentiate the games from each other at a quick glance.

I would like to hear something official about this.
Cause I was paying attention to this subject, but might missed something. And I know only that they got rid of old models exactly cause they didn’t want to make effort to support them as new models.
But making new stuff for new models isn’t the same as not making anyhting for ne models on which old stuff is already working fine.
You can wear anything from vanilla content without problems (well there are problems but they are visual problems if someone cares SO MUCH about some clipping here and there, or stretchy texture, they can toggle this option off).
The thing is. AS I UNDERSTAND IT (and since I’m not working in blizzard I can be wrong, but I’m working in similar subjects so I might be right) they don’t have many issue with just name all new stuff like: “environmentNEW/treeNEW/CoconutTreeNEW” and redirect client to show you model form this path instead of “environment/tree/CoconutTree” when you pressing this toggle.
All other stuff is just numbers and its all settable.

The existing framework and time it would take to strip and/or rebuilt a new client I think it simply comes down to these two choices:
1/ There’s a slider to emulate lower resolution but due to various things being layered on top of a new client there’s still going to be slight differences.
2/ Classic is delayed for at least a year while new technology is retrograded or old technology is upgraded to accommodate the gap between old client and new hard-wired back-end functions.

Wrong, wrong and wrong. You’re remembering what happened in the Legion pre-patch.

Or. They already have all things set up, folders created, model/texture/animation/vfx paths redirected and just can give us two options to play the same game. Which will not ruin any experience for other people, case it has nothing to do with their game, but only with ours.

and separate CUSTOM server architecture to run it… instead of the servers they already have and are already deployed

BOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

I’m craving this more than anything. But I will NOT play this game more than a month with old ugly visuals. I just can’t. I tried when beta of Classic was out. I stood there with my orc the Character™ and looked at his 5 polygons eyes with 8 teeth in his texture and my everything started to bleed.
I grew out of old graphics long time ago.
