New Graphics or why Purist are Crazy

This is actually true, I only have one example but here’s the Belt of Might on my Male Human Warrior. The new models actually fix the distortion of the texture:

Compared to what is available today. They’re bad. Very bad.

I suspect a lot of players are going to launch Classic and immediately get hung up on how dated the graphics look: fuzzy, low rez textures, visible polygons, short viewing distance, opaque water, fake looking shadows, etc.

That does look much better. I can’t post screen shots rn but for some reason the paladin T6 set just looks off to me on the new models. I can’t put my finger on it but the set just looks different.

I know it’s TBC gear but that set popped into my head. Same with T2… idk what it is.

There’s definitely cases where the old gear looks worse on the new models but I don’t think it’s as bad as people make it out to be. I don’t have examples of different races but all the old stuff I’ve used looks good on a Male Human.

Rank 10 PvP set:

Yes continue to make me jealous at that beautiful armor set why don’t you?!?

I’ve got full T3 as well

Stop it… stop it right now

Next you’ll say you’ve got a corrupted ashbringer in the bank… honestly I’ll leave

I wish, never even saw it drop. I do have a bunch of other 60 Naxx stuff in the bank though; crafting materials for the frost res gear for example. Worth a pretty penny now!

I’m still salty about them removing 60 naxx lmao

I don’t know how many prospective new players will be surprised to find dated graphics on a 15-year-old game, but I do think the majority of those people are not going to be so hung up that they’ll do a hairflip and flounce away in disgust.

Compare Classic to OSRS and it looks amazing.

The new client looks better than the old client

If people care for PvP they can toggle this off and play as others. If you have disadvantage at something that you can just SWITCH OFF why would you let it be on? I wouldn’t care if my more relevant graphics made my PvP harder, I like challenges.
This is very poor argument against toggleable option.

This issues are? I didn’t see any good arguments yet.

It runs well with new graphics for me as well, cause I have chunky PC. This isn’t an ISSUE of new/old graphics. If you have problems with graphics by performance — you lower the graphics. This is simple. And yet it is not an counterargument why do I need to be strip off toggle option.

THEY. ARE. LITERALLY. HAVE. THE. SAME. UV. MAPS. FOR. GEAR. AND. BONES. STRUCTURE. FOR. GEAR-PLACEMENT.
That is why old gear looks AWFUL but still can be put on new models.

This is subjective. I already explained to you that I think otherwise. And I have the same % of interest in playing Classic wow and have the same amount of right to play it with new graphics as you with old.

“If people care for pvp they can”

No… level playing field for everyone.
Spells look a certain way… character models look a certain way. The game looks a certain way. We aren’t talking about moving a slider up and down… what you describe is two different games running simultaneously within the same game.

Different casting animations… different spell animations…

Why are you concerning for someone to see old gear on new models? You will not see them as new models with toggle option off, you will see them as old models as well. If people want to suffer while wearing old gear on new models — let them.
All I see in your arguments “I wouldn’t do it so should you”.
Balance wise this options doesn’t change ANYTHING.

What a weird rant…

Is movement speed the same in vanilla? Are the hit boxes and range limitations on the classic models and the updated models identical? If not they’d have a little bit of work to do in order to implement the new models.

i think the lower polygon graphics + old models are ironically part of the visual aesthetics of classic, allowing for people to switch to the new one would kind of disrupt that and thus the art style of the game

for example, old television, if you took old t. v. shows and turned them from black and white into color, increased the quality of the microphones, and put everything into raw HD, it would diminish a lot of the vintage feel + charm they had, i think the graphics should be forced to be the old ones to maintain the vintage nature

Are we talking about the same issue?

You are afraid that when you press fireball it will DDOS the server and game crushes cause it can’t process two different type of VFX prefabs or what?
I TRYING to get your point, but I just can’t

Correct me if I’m wrong but the information of anything in this game is acting like this:

  • when you press an ability, client sends an information to the server: “I used an ability-X” at the same time client sends a signal to use a prefab with model, VFX and clip with animation of a character that lies somewhere ON YOUR SIDE.

For me it will be wow/something/characterNEW/ModelOrc/AbilityFireball
For you it will be wow/something/characterOLD/ModelGnome/AbilityFireball

SO. When you press a fireball, YOU see Fireball v.1 and I see fireball v.2, which both are on our PCs. And server doing nothing with this information except saying ti the client to show you 999 damage which fireball does, no matter which VISUAL it plays.
If we both use fireballs you see two V1 fireballs and I see two v.2 fireballs. Client/Server doesn’t SUFFER from it, it just play the files.
Both versions of fireball will be flying with the same speed, they will be the same LOGICALLY but differently by view. And again, if you care that your fireball looks more CHUNKY and covers more screen space, which IS applying to balance, you can switch toggle off/on to match my fireball which doesn’t do that.

I mean I am sure they can make hitboxes and movement speed the same as vanilla.

I do know in WotLK they standardized the hitboxes.

That is actually an issue some people are complaining about right now. They are complaining that tauren hunter’s deadzone seems to be larger than other hunters and how they seemingly have more range. And you know what, it’s 100% true. tauren in classic had larger hitboxes and had larger deadzones. It sucked playing a tauren hunter but man it made tauren tanks very popular.

In fact there was a tauren tank statagy for a boss in TBC that used growth potions to make your hitbox so large, you could interact with objects with out having to actualy move.
