New forum function - posting anonymously, as Anonymous

I’m pleased other options for forum improvement are being explored too. I just don’t think this is a good idea.

BTW, what do you think of Anonymous posting? Sorry if you already voiced it, but this is a very long thread and will take a long time to read.

How they can abuse it, if WoW forums requires monthly subscription?

They already implemented something similar in overwatch2 game play. SO, i am pretty sure they might be considering this.

A person can just easily buy another sub to post if they so chose to. For anon posting to work, it would have to be at the bnet level not per character level.

The articles I linked earlier state too how different anon postings can be abused and with the lack of moderation, anon posting can get too out of hand.

Gameplay is one thing and forums are another. Sometimes folks do not want to be disturbed in a game and or they may want to play unranked (since that is a ranked game).

Online public spaces are different in the sense that anyone can post and see posts.

How do you suggest that if anon posting was abused, how to report and block them incase they DOX / send uh… bad things that rhyme with corn and other stuff onto the platform?

Yes because trolls definitely won’t pay for the game  Just because you’re paying for something doesn’t automatically make you a good person who won’t troll or be abusive and rude to others.

Yeah, in the game, not the forum. Those are two different things.

nobody would ever do that.

Do they discuss about forums that have subscription in order to post? or just random public forums?

similar and it’s blizzard game.

Can you speak for everyone on the planet?

If you read them it’s internet anonymity as a whole regardless of what platform.

Based on what? Can you post a Dev conversation either from YT or how about an article. Conversations within your head don’t count. Personally I think that you’ll be living on Mars soon… see anyone can make wild suppositions.

It’s far liklier for them to implement something that’s already in place and possible to do with the current forum software like BTags than something ridiculous like anonymous posting.

Sorry you’re not ever gonna get anonymous posting here the way you want it.

It’s based on “I’m pretty sure, and I’m positive, because I know” facts.

My thing is that I got to thinking about last night is there was a situation in one of the FB groups I was in that a anon poster was posting… corn (let’s put it that way) of someone that was uh… well anyway it was really really bad and FBI worthy. Let’s just put it that way.

It was reported but I was told earlier to just keep on scrolling for things I don’t like. That mixed with that above scenario could create a very bad environment that I wouldn’t want to be a part of.

If anon posting were to be a thing and something like that were to happen, there needs to be good moderation to handle it along with a text box for us to not just report but add in details of why we report. I’m not sure if discourse could handle that or not.

Daily support for BattleTags for the WoW Forums!

I mean, if BattleTags are such a bad idea, how come nothing bad has happened to me posting mine, and I’ve had mine all over the forums since 2018 (when the forums got updated to Discourse)

Why is that so much more terrible than hiding your character entirely from view?

Daily support for b-tags to be added!

I posted mine three times. No one has messaged me, added me, stalked me or anything else.

I can only imagine. I would have left a group like that immediately. Do you know what that type of garbage does to your personal algorithm? I shudder to think considering the conspiracy theories I have about how facebook determines what ads I see…

I’ve had stuff show up as ads for things i merely looked at in a home improvement store. Not online, not on my phone. Simply walked past and went “Hmm interesting”.

Anonymous posting should never happen on these forums. My unpopular opinion is bring on RealID. I’m ok with it.

I added you last night ._.

OH SOMEONE GAVE ME THEIR BTAG AND I FORGOT TO ADD THEM

Excuse you, I added you, you just accepted :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not ok with real ID cause I don’t want people knowing my real name and possible address based off the name. That’s the downside to Real ID. Battletag is ok though if that’s what you meant.

Potato patato.

People are just completely misinformed about BattleTags and their functionality. I think the OP confirmed themselves to be an undead mage that starts with L, since they are using the same arguments that got proven wrong not only by people on the forums, but by Blizzard articles as well as Blizzard themselves.

No I meant RealID… I even have a very uncommon name, and would be easily found. But after the T Virus and others I believe it is the only way to really stop the forum abusers. That said I’d be ok with bnet.

those articles discuss anonymous posting in game forums with a monthly subscription? Otherwise, they are unrelated to this topic.

based on what they already implemented in overwatch2. They are aware of people stalking others.
