New Death Knights [Theory]

Okay let’s assume the leaked data means most if not all of the races will be getting death knights. Which would likely mean a revamped DK starter zone.

When do you think this would take place. Probably not 8.3. But it should be noted that some early allied race info was in 7.3 and they came out in 7.3.5. So my theory is it’s going to be similar here. The next expansion is going to be announced and as part of the pre-order bonus you’ll get access to the revamped DK starting zone. Or it’s not part of a pre-order bonus but still think it’ll be here in 8.3.5 and be highly connected to the next expansion.

Now I don’t believe we’re getting a wrath 2.0. At least not directly. I do see a shadowlands/death expansion where Bolvar is an “Ally” similar to how Illidan was in legion. He’ll take advantage of all the dead from legion and BFA to raise a new generation of of death knights to fight the 9.0 “Big bad”. It was already shown in Legion that the PC death knight can raise new death knights and rose many from those who perished on the broken shore. But I don’t think that’ll be our starter zone because it’s not caught up enough to include most of the allied races.

I have also heard a rumor of another set of relaxed class/race combos (Honestly I hope one day the restriction is gone completely but doubt it will happen). Other than allied races and pandaren getting DKs also worgen/goblin/potentially lightforged getting monks and some others for races that have very low amount of race/class combos. Highmountain tauren may also get paladin and priest after having an entire expansion with their Mulgore kin.

I have also heard a lot about new class. I’ve heard both Tinker and Necromancer. I’d prefer the later to be honest. But any new class is welcome. Might actually play a mechagnome if we get tinker.

Anyways, what do all of you think?

I’m excited at the prospect of any new race/class combo. I was fearing no new race was going to get death knights for awhile and that made me sad. I’m happy it looks like they probably will.

These weapons share the same ilvl as the DK starting weapons currently obtainable. To me this seems to be further evicende of a revamp of the DK starter zone. If they were purely for transmog they’d be flagged as cosmetic and wouldn’t have stats.

Some have also brought up the possibility that the 4th fiery one is implying a 4th spec. I am skeptical of that but thought I should mention it none the less. It should be noted that Bolvar is a smoldering corpse.

There’s an encrypted Icecrown map and encrypted dialogue from Darion and Bolvar. The new DKs will presumably have their own starting area.

Shadowlands is connected to Icecrown lore wise, so I see that happening with that connection.

And Id like either class

It’s hard to believe that allied races are going to get Death Knights simply because that begs the question of if you would still get heritage armor for leveling one…

If so that is a substantial level boost from 20 to work with. If not that’s not fair in the slightest, even more so when Monks get a EXP boost that makes them far faster to level than every other class.

The most unbelievable thing about this though is Panda Death Knights. Which begs the question of how their “picking a side” thing would work.

Void Elf DKs and Lightforged DKs. That doesn’t sound right to me.

Yeah, not so sure what your opinion on these are, tbh…

Would be cool if it was a Necromancer Class. Those guys are wearing cloth atm.

Hmm.

Assuming we get a level squish which removes old expansion content from levelling and doing Cata 2.0 to Classic zones, so that new players get a consistent, cohesive experience, I would think DK starting zone gets redone. And possibly the DH starting zone. But that would be sad because those are good, unique content.

Hopefully, the DK starting zone remains unchanged for current DK races, but there’s a second, much quicker questline for new races that takes them from Bolvar to Acherus to join their brothers and sisters.

I’ll wait for an announcement.

Data mines are more solid proof than “4chan leaks” but they’re still not you know. For sure.

We’ve gotten a lot of Data-mined things that go nowhere or go in a direction nobody expected.

Who knows maybe you get to do a “flashback” or “Visions of an alternate universe” quest as a DK and they need textures for your character to look like one.

“Here’s what would have happened if you had fallen to the Lich King in Wrath” would make for a good quest.

None of those textures seem to have much customization options yet so…

They’re also NPC textures, so not ones players will get at first.

You party pooper!

Anywho its possible but I doubt it, just with the way Bolvar was acting last expansion and the things he had you doing. Also the hostile attitude he had during the Voljin quest line

Faction divide removed confirmed? :eyes:

Yup I said that. I have a feeling the old one will be vaulted and even normal races will use that too. Similiar to undead in cata. Any undead made after cata were raised by Sylvanas not Arthas.

Any DK allied race or otherwise will use that new map/scenario.

Oh yeah forgot about that! Good point!

Seriously? Why do people keep bringing this up like it’s a some kind of magic stopper?

First off with the current evidence we have it’s INCREDIBLY unlikely that we don’t get allied race DKs. It is pointless to make textures for allied race DKs if they aren’t going to be used.

EXACTLY. It’s already been calculated before that monks EXP boost would be more of an advantage then the 35 level boost death knights get. Either way it wouldn’t even be slightly hard not 1% difficult to lock allied race death knights out of getting heritage armor the same way boosts do.

Perhaps like boosting? Or you pick in the new starter zone?

A corpse, is a corpse, is a corpse. Paladins have been able to be raised before. Paladins literally infuse themselves with the light. There is no lore to suggest that lightforged, or void elves wouldn’t be able to be undead.

This is exactly what I am talking about.

I’d love necromancer tbph.

I have a feeling they’ll be gone just like the old starting zones before cata. However blizzard is smarter than they were in cata and now save data and perhaps the old one will be able to be done via a special scenario in CoT or something.

This is eerily similar to the allied race datamined info in 7.3 that blizzard even came out and told us to ignore only for a few months later to confirm that we were getting them.

People like to be pessimistic. People were pessimistic about Vulpera. But look what happened?

Allied race DKs are most certainly going to happen. I’ll accept there is a chance it won’t. But at this point there is a higher chance it is rather than isn’t.

But why? Why put in all of this effort? Its the same with Vulpera. It’s a waste of dev time and money to put assets into this and then just only use it for a single quest, or scenario. They’d already be halfway there to making them playable? Why not just go the full way? When you’re being pessimistic and adding alternatives you need to add a dose of logic. Also not all death knights look undead. So all they’d need is the blue eye’d texture not undead skin tones. Also some helmets can simulate those eye-glows like Gie Gravewalker. So we’ll see.

That’s only the base. I betcha 10k gold that we’re getting allied race DKs.

That’s just how things are coded. The code for the allied races in 7.3 were the exact same way. People also used that to be dismissive and look what happened? Either way we’ll find out in about 3 weeks.

None of that would mean he isn’t going to raise more if he feels the need to. The data is in front of you.

I swear some of you people. Look at a cake. It says cake and you argue “Maybe it’s just a fancy brownie?”. This stuff happens all the time and is eventually proven to be true and y’all like “Oh guess it was”. Happened with allied races, and vulpera.

Hardly.

It wouldn’t be hard to give one extra quest to Pandaren DKs which have them pick a side.

Im with u on the storyline possibly happening that way.
Not with u on the class race combos tho.

I would but I probably don’t have that much gold and I would have to put a time limit on that bet.

It was merely a joke…

Even if I am on the side of getting rid of the faction line, but that’s a whole different thread entirely.

Here is to hoping that this signals more availability for our Death Knight friends. Getting shafted with the ARs has not been a fun experience, I’m sure.

They might not be playable. Maybe it’s for story stuff. Maybe Sylvanas or Bolvar will have some powerful new recruits.

Oh I just mean people forget about Bolvar, and those who remember insist hes still a good guy. With the stuff hes done like making the four horsemen and telling me to leave with voljin or be stuck there forever, id not doubt hed make more DKs

My guess is 8.3.5 or at the longest 9.0.

But again… pointless. Waste of dev time? If blizz had infinite resources to spend on anything and everything they want that might make sense. But they don’t. So this doesn’t make sense. If they’re raising new recruits why do they need allied races? Why not just use humans or blood elves as defaults? If they’re rando npcs you don’t need examples of every race.

And if they did. You wouldn’t be able to tell in the DK gear anyways as that comes with glowing eyes and hides all the body so you can’t see any skin.

It’s the Vulpera argument all over again. There is literally negative reasoning to put this dev time into these textures to be npc exclusive. I’m sorry but blizzard just doesn’t put that much effort into rando npcs. They don’t. And important npcs get a complete unique model.

He’s a bit of a jerk but don’t think he’s evil, or good.
