Is there a way to copy all of world of warcraft to my new computer instead of downloading it all again?
Cant you just cooy and paste from old computer or tranfer it to a flash drive then to new computer.
The only way I know to is as Darth suggested. I’ve always kept a back-up of the game itself as well as all of my WTF and cache files just in case of something happening to my computers, but when I upgraded a few years ago I did just copy it over from my flash drive.
Ok, so if i understand it right just copy all of the wow folders to a thunb drive and tranfer via the thumb drive to the new pc?
Yes in a nutshell.
Ok i will give it a try
after doing that download battle.net and point it to the folder containing wow.
Hmmm, i hope i get this right
basically you copy the wow folder to a drive say d:/world of warcraft, after that get done you download battle.net. open that after it gets done and login, it should prompt you download wow or select a folder where it is located, just show it the world of warcraft folder and you should be good to go.
Ok, thanks for your help
your welcome. have fun playing on the new system ![]()
The best thing about copying it rather than downloading fresh? Keeping all of the personalization you’ve done to things - whether UI or add-ons. You’re copying everything already done rather than having to start absolutely fresh. Which has it’s own merits but having to take the time to set everything to rights after taking however long to download? I’m always an advocate of copying things over, personally. Good luck!
Thanks everyone for your input
Just to touch on this, I have found that the best way to do this is to still allow a fresh install of the game, but copy over one folder, “Account”:
This allows the game to have its fresh install so that you don’t get as many bugs or glitches, but also saves all of the settings you want saved, including your addon settings. You just have to re-download the addons. But I have found that it’s a much better method for the game to run smoothly.
WoW is EXTREMELY portable, which is a nice thing. It doesn’t leave a bunch of files in Windows user profiles and system folders. Everything you need is in your WoW install folder and the whole shebang can just be bipped onto a flash drive for easy transportation, you just want to make sure your flash drive is 125-150 gigs or so.
