New Computer - NEED HELP

Was able to download the WoW client to my new system. But it seems the only thing I can do is BUY Dragonflight! I’ve had a standing 6-month subscription for YEARS! So HOW can I download the game to this new computer???

Did you download the Battlenet app from here?

Then you sign into your existing account and download the games that you want from there.

I downloaded the launcher np. But downloaded it ON the new computer. I am totally lost now - have 6-month sub and do NOT want to ‘buy’ game again! It appears that for me to download I MUST buy the game!! Don’t see any other options!

You need to log into the Battlenet app with your email and password, then click on the game you want to install and click the “install” button. Have you done that? And have you made sure you’re logging into the correct account?

Couldn’t find that! Yes I was “in” my account and went to WoW in games choices. Tells me to BUY Dragonflight!

Just for clarity, Dragonflight is the current expansion and is not included in the subscription like the previous expansions are. If you would like access today, you need to buy it separately.

Otherwise, it is most likely going to follow history and be rolled in shortly before the next expansion goes live.

You may want to make sure you’re logged into the correct account, then. Though, even if it were an account that didn’t have the Dragonflight expansion, it would look like this:

And just to clarify, is this where you went to get the game to download?

If you have not yet installed WoW itself on to your computer, then that blue PLAY button shown in screenshot above will say INSTALL. Just click INSTALL and it will download the game for you.

Where is it saying that, Carens? From what I can see your WoW license is already upgraded with Dragonflight and you have game time on it from your 6 month subscription.

Assuming you are logging into the correct Battle.net account, the one you are logged into here. Then after you have select WoW there should be a drop down menu in the lower left corner of the screen (example in Sendryn’s screenshot), and you should either have a Play or Install option.

It would help to know what you see there.

I didn’t see anything that said “install” - or I would have! Let me go back over to that new system and see what I can find. And just for the record, I am OLD (‘ancient’ for a gamer), and it’s been like 6-7 years since I’ve had to go through an ‘installation process’. But am SURE I was in ‘my’ account - I only have ONE!

Check my screenshots. They should help guide you a little better on the Battlenet app.

I only have one running account as well, but there is often times a WoW1 or some such. There are a couple of drop down menus you just need to make sure you’ve got the right things selected.

Click Here - To Save People's Screens from Larger Images

So you should be seeing two drop down menus. You’ll see here the big blue button says “INSTALL” for that particular game, as I don’t play Classic.

The top drop-down, make sure it’s set to World of Warcraft, likely the bottommost option.

Then for the bottom drop-down, make sure you’ve got the right game license selected. You’ll see I’ve got my named account, and WoW 1.

Once you’ve got those two things selected, it should have your big blue button listed as “Install” now.

Thank you all!! Yes, I finally figured it out and got the game downloaded… but now I need to deal with addons and voice and a BUNCH of ‘other’ stuff. But again - you helped me through the download - and oh my! It’s almost like I’m playing a ‘new’ game!!

Indeed.

We also have a forum for Returning Players that might be able to help if you have any questions about gameplay.

I wouldn’t classify myself as a Returning Player… lol… have never been ‘away’… But over the many years I have played WoW every time I ‘upgrade’ to a new computer it’s a painful experience trying to get the game - and addons, voice, etc. - set up. And the older I get, and the more ‘complicated’ computers become, the more painful it is! And I really don’t have issues with gameplay… it’s just getting this dam machine set up to PLAY!! But again - thank you all for your help!

For the future. You can keep all your addons, and most of your settings, if you want.

To do that you would go to your program files and copy the whole World of Warcraft Directory (folder) onto an external drive. It is big, so you need a large drive.

Then paste that directory into the same location on the new computer. Once you download the Desktop App you would just point it at the location you installed it.

The best way to do it for a fresh install is to make a list of your addons, then only save the main Saved Variables folder for your account, then re-download the addons. All of your settings are there, but everything else is a fresh install. I found less bugs that way later on.
