I only just left work an hour ago. Hopefully the rest of your shift flies by. Being bored at work is awful. I say spending most of my day at work bored and on the forums.
This is something I have long wanted to see. It could fill all three roles although I would prefer it to be a ranged dps. Just have different mech suits/contraptions for different specs.
Thanks to everyone who’s replied - this was just a fun theory craft/ opportunity to use your imagination. Some cool ideas so far.
Another one -
A strictly debuff mage “healer” - Instead of heals just massive mitigation.
A “full nature” ranged Druid or any other class that uses nature magic.
By “full Nature,” I mean DPS spells that have the theme and aesthetics using nature, like suffocating roots, thorny vines, razor-like leaves, poison shrooms, etc., etc.
(I know that some spells like Thorns, mushrooms, and such already exist. I meant an “expansion” of these spells or variants of them.)
I mean, Druids in WoW, at least the Balance/ranged DPS part, don’t really resemble Druids as we usually know them from general rpg Fantasy. They look more like Arcane mages, shooting lasers and energy balls. (Aesthetically speaking)
Oh, and some kind of Geomancer or Earth Magic “only” user.
“But we have Shamans!”
I know, but while shamsn uses like All elements, This new class would use only Earth Magic. Imagine a Caster, but instead of magical damage, it would deal physical damage.
Throwing massive boulders, rock spikes that cause bleeding damage, Earth/rock skin for tanking, sand jets, etc.
(Think of the earthbenders from Avatar or Tremor from Mortal Kombat)
Moonkin offspec detected
Doomkin
Could work through a stance/buff like the MoP warlock melee thing.
When buff is active, have a blood texture all over the moonkin paws, wings, and beak. Blizz just needs to make a it a collab with Bethesda so that “All they fear is you” from the Doom OST can be used.
time mage?
A cloth wearing shield mage tank.
Mesmer from gw1
And illusion based magical duelist
A melee dps spec, can use one and offhand or two handed blades weapons
A gun or bow support spec
And ranged heal spec
Ive always wanted a spellblade tank styled mele caster.
Use two handed swords. Or 1 h handed and a magically summoned shield.
Your mastery gives you “x% damage is taken from mana before life”
let’s be honest the moment we have another new class the community will flame it
Oooh
Never played GW1, played GW2 years ago, and I felt like a mesmer was very similar to an arcane mage thematically, but I’m guessing you specified GW1 for a reason.
As a returning player, I’d say anything in GW2 has a pretty good chance of making it into WoW, just by how often that’s happened in the last few years. Still holding out for transmog acting on the slot and not the item…
I would like a gun based class with turrets.
Something with ogcd ‘conditionals’ buttons but a forced slower GCD (still fast enough to feel like WoW.)
Something like hitting one button, getting a proc, hitting that proc, and then having a small window to hit an ability that operates like shield of the righteous (ogcd) for more damage.
I’m a sucker for these sorts of things.
In general, I’d prefer to see specs added. A 4th spec to all classes.
But I’d love to see a tinker/technomancer typw of class.
So……survival hunter lol
But in all fun: I would like to see evoker tank (black red spells)
Or flesh out the hero trees to be more in line with the DK, shaman, hunter flavors.
So, similar to a Alchemist in EverQuest Online Adventures?
I want an engineer class, similar to what they have in GW2. I only played GW2 when it launched, before any expansions, but I did keep up with class updates for a while because I really liked GW2 engineer.
My engineer had turrets to deploy for healing, damage, CC and I could throw bombs and alchemical potions, I had a flamethrower and elixir gun, I had all kinds of utility, I could use a rifle and could dual wield pistols, or run with a pistol and shield combo. It was so much fun to play as, a lot of diversity. Ever since then I was big into the idea of our engineering profession evolving into a class.
Playing a hunter with engineering just doesn’t scratch that itch.
I usually don’t like these threads because folks are just saying “Add X!” and then gets upset when folks point out that things doesn’t work quite so well, but I figured… why not think of how one would design a class so… here’s my methodology:
- Start with a basis of what they do, what “holes” are they filling.
- Decide on what roles they need to fulfill.
- Think of things that could fit the role.
Starting off with armour type, it is going to be Mail as they are heavily under represented. Which also establishes that they have to be an agility or Intellect user as a base, and it is going to be an agility user with a…
- Melee tanking specialization using a shield.
- Melee dps specialization that primarily wants to use a polearm, a 2H Mace, or a 2H axe.
- A ranged dps specialization using bows, guns, and crossbows.
The tanking specialization is largely so it doesn’t become a DPS only specialization, and to stick to a pure physical theme since we want them to make use of under utilized weapons (2H Maces, Axes, Polearms) as well as a ranged physical specialization (same reason).
The most natural class to compare them to would be Shamans so we want to make them distinctively different from there, meaning that they are a physical class for a similar reason why warriors are a physical class. But one that relies on mail rather than plate as well as agility so they are going to be more “agile” in their theming.
A good frame of reference here might be something like the Shieldbreaker from Darkest Dungeon, or a Roman Gladiator (would nets be too much on the nose?). So we are looking at a mercenary styled class that is distinctively different from Rogues as they are more armoured, they aren’t a full blown hunter so we can say “no pets” (maybe traps - can we throw nets, should they be a net-slinging ranged class in their ranged specialization, so… medium ranged at 20-25?)
So that’s as far as I have gotten. So it might be an “exiled”-stereotype, a sand-nomad of sorts, one that is survival oriented but not nature loving, more nature exploiting for the usefulness of animals?
Could Obsessive Skinner or Grim Flayer from MTG serve as a good basis?
If we go down that route, how about if we were to face the Twilight Hammer clan again and they have recruited some new … “odd-folks” that were easily persuaded to serve as a frontliner or mid-ranged skirmisher? Could potentially theme them around Old Gods but not as a spellcaster?
It is at least enough of a character where concept art would be damn neat to see if one could make something with it. At least I think so. Maybe it’d be a good starting point at least.
If one were to continue with the Old Gods angle, it would solve the issue of potentially being too similar of a “physical shaman.” Where they could opt for “Unnatural Strength” as a thematic way to be a physical enemy, or “Uncannily Agile” when they act the role of a ranged skirmisher.
The frontline physical component might need to be worked on a bit since most of those are plate users, if we consider other concept art from other games like Hearthstone of Shield of C’Thun or whatever they were called. But it might be an idea that makes them distinctive from Shamans but still have a specific role in a class lineup.
All I want is Tinker. Been wanting a sci fi class for this game since I started playing.
In WoW, that’s a Tinker. I’ve been looking for the same thing.
