They have never been able to balance classes anyway, so we might as well have more.
Uh. disagreeing with my opinion is very different from calling everything I say “Horse ”
While that’s true, This is Blizzard we’re talking about. A money making company
Taking classes directly from Warcraft 3 has worked really well for the past 15 years, and considering we aren’t OUT of classes to take from Warcraft 3, I very much doubt they’ll stop doing it. When it has worked so well for so long.
Blizzard isn’t going to go through the effort to make an entirely new class, When most of the framework for existing classes is already made for them. And frankly they shouldn’t go out of their way to break from the established universe that this game is based on
If I were in charge I would have refigured WoW classes long ago, but it is too late now. Players will be angry if any spec is removed or class greatly changed.
I would have organized the entire thing differently, removing the ideas of tank, healer, and DPS. I would focus instead on every encounter needing melee, ranged, and support. I think these different classifications allow for more nuance.
I actually like the holy trinity existence in the game.
They are however, not mutually exclusive.
Prove that WoW’s success comes from ripping the character classes from the stolen ideas in Warcraft and I’ll entertain this ridiculous argument. Every MMO has classes.
If you think the talent at blizzard would struggle to create something that didn’t already exist in Warcraft, there is no way to have a rational conversation with you.
Adding something new does not break what used to be. You can’t sit here and say, “I’m only talking about classes” and then say that adding something new would “break from the established universe.”
You’ve just proven that you’re just looking for anything little thing to support your opinion no matter how flimsy or completely contradictory to that opinion it is.
Not going to argue in circles with someone who refuses see reason.
Blizzard does this on a regular basis with retcons or “additional information we just didn’t know about” every expansion whenever the devs come up with a cool dungeon or raid. Ion himself admitted to it in an interview where he straight up said he doesn’t want to constrain the developer to continuity if they come up with somethin’ “cool”.
Yeah, I’m gonna have to respectfully disagree with you on this one Spinster.
I Love the classic Holy Trinity, I’ve been a Tank main for as long as i’ve played this game.
WoW is the only game that gets tanks right. That shouldn’t ever change
I have proof. It’s pretty simple proof too.
Go to your character select screen. Make a New Character.
You can pick a bunch of classes. But every single one of them is from Warcraft 3. But there’s one big archetype that we’re missing. One that is pre-established in lore, and has a Hero Unit in WC3
That’s pretty clear cut to me.
No they wouldn’t struggle to come up with something new.
But they aren’t going to go the extra mile when they can just steal what they’ve already created.
They’ve followed this pattern for 15 years. If you can’t see it as clear as day, then that’s on you
This is absolutely true, But it hasn’t extended to classes yet. Nor should it.
Just because something is “Cool” doesn’t mean it’s worthy of being put into WoW. Blizzard isn’t going to go the extra mile for new classes when they can just take what they’ve already created.
If you really think they’re above that, then more power to you.
Story is one thing. But class design is complicated and a lot of Work.
So Blizz is going to take the path of least resistance
Tinkers.
- Tanks spec in mechsuit
- Ranged DPS spec with mech stuff like turrets and stuff
- Healer spec with mech stuff somehow.
Hello again peppermint! <3
Yes. Tinkers.
Absolutely could be ranged, and be able to tank without coming up with any new abilities or doing any mental gymnastics. But only going strictly off of the design from WC3.
They would use Int gear, and be a fine addition to the roster that doesn’t inhibit any existing class.
0 fan concepts, 0 original ideas, 0 mental gymnastics.
I believe the first step in decidin’ if we get a new class and what it would be is Ion is asked - “Hey, think this is cool enough?” If Ion says - “Yes” - then the next step is plannin’ which expansion they have the time and resources to dedicate to it.
“Rule of Cool” is how Blizzard operates. If Ion’s team thinks somethin’ is cool enough, they’ll plan out the time and resources to make it happen. Whether it’s Necromancers or Tinkers or somethin’ else, is entirely up to Blizzard and all we as players can do is voice what it is we support.
I’ve long since grown tried of tellin’ other players “It’s never going to happen” ‘cuz it’s a stupid argument when Blizzard conitnues to show they do whatever they think is “cool” from their perspective. Especially when it comes to the High Elf folks. I, personally, want somethin’ other than High Elves… but I don’t go up to a High Elf fan and tell them “No!” anymore. It’s a waste of time and energy on my part.
Instead, I just advocate for what I want and not bring down other players for wantin’ somethin’ else, regardless if it’s not somethin’ I want.
If “Rule of Cool” was the only thing that mattered. we wouldn’t have gotten Monks.
I LOVE monk, I main a monk. But they weren’t added because they were cool. I doubt your average blood elf edgelord thinks Kung Fu is very cool. They were added because were a hero unit from Wc3.
Look, nothing that you’re saying proves anything. There is no proof that the classes are the reason WoW is successful. Looking at a character creation screen included.
You’ve done nothing here but make me believe even more that “that’s the way it was always done” is never a reason not to do something new, and my opinion hasn’t faltered.
I no longer care about your opinion, because you don’t have a valid reason.
You don’t have to believe me.
I think WoW is super successful because It’s based off a successful brand of RTS games. RTS games that established a unique fantasy universe.
WoW being unique, makes it successful in my opinion.
If you disagree. That’s okay.
I think it’s about time Wow got its first Class with 1 healing spec and 2 ranged DPS specs. Idk what the theme would be. Maybe Vampire?
And also, here’s another vote for tinkerer too. Maybe that could be 2 ranged dps and a heal?
That’s fine, I’m not goin’ to sit here and argue which of our opinions are right. Like I said, I’d rather spend my effort advocatin’ for what I think is cool and fun and hope Blizzard agrees with me.
I don’t think it’s too late. The players who are angry, are already angry all the time. I think that the classes need full reworks anyway. I’d like to see some classes become the extremes of one class. Kinght: Paladin/DeathKnight
Acolyte: Priest/Necromancer
Adept: Mage/Warlock
Not that, but like that.
I’d like to see a progression system.
Lvl 1: Class
Lvl 10: SubClass - Pick a Path (Can’t be switched)
Lvl 20: Specialization- Focus on a particular of your Class/Path (Spec)
But I also like the idea of getting to choose between abilities instead of just getting one. So you hit level 16 as a Warrior:Defender and it offers Heavy Blow, Strategic Bleed or Bulwark. You pick one and lose two. You can switch them if you want to find what fits your play style. Build your unique set of abilities.
I would leave the holy trinity in and add an unholy trinity of Control, Summoner, and Support
Control - focuses on controlling the fight, Sheeping, slowing and altering the battlefield.
Summoner - use Pets, Demons and Undead to fight for them
Support - keep buffing allies, removing debuffs and debuffing enimies.
I’d make the class/path choices use hybrid combinations of the 6 types. So a Paladin Tank might have more healing or support or control rather than a little bit of all three.
The more you can allow players to control who their character is, the more distinct you can make those choices, the more fun the game will be for everyone.
The more fun the game, the less angry the players and the more subscriptions you get and the more money you make.
Blizzard only knows how to remove content, not add content… so its a moot point.
If they add tinkers i would want them to wear plate honestly. If the machines are doing the heavy lifting it would make sense for them to have heavy plating. I’d rather it be a completely ranged class. 2 rdps and 1 healer spec. 1 rdps gets a mech suit but I definitely want to summon an actual tank for a cd. I just dont want more melee even if that means they add 1 class that doesn’t tank. Every other class added could tank, leave this one to the ranged players.
ABSOLUTELY NOT.
That goes WAY against Warcraft 3.
Tinkers were GREAT tanks back then.
Your Mech Suit gave you Armor, and made you unstoppable. (As in: Immune to CC)
They WERE Tanks. They Are Tanks.
If they couldn’t tank it would be hilariously disloyal to the Class.
They should absolutely have a Ranged DPS spec. I don’t think they should have a Melee DPS spec. But not being able to tank is just wrong.
