First-time player here. I logged in and immediately created a character. I assumed I would choose a server, or realm as I’ve learned we’re calling them, during the character creation process. It is joyous (/sarcasm) to learn this is not the case. I joined a realm I didn’t mean to and now I have to delete my character and replay the tutorial. The information I’ve found is ambiguous, but I may not get some of the special items I claimed on this character with my new character. I refuse, however, to pay $25 to move my character when it was so completely unclear how and where I was supposed to select my desired realm. Utterly baffling to me that there is no prompt at any point, at least nothing in any way obvious. You’re just supposed to notice the tab and do it manually. Not cool.
You don’t need to. Roll a new character on the desired realm. You’re level 11, it honestly won’t take you long to level up again.
On the character selection screen, in the retail version, when you create a character it tells you the realm on the bottom right corner.
On the very top of the character select screen, there is a small menu - SHOP - MENU - REALMS
Clicking on realms will take you to the realm selection page, which you can then choose, then go to the character creation page to make a character on the realm you wish to be on.

Not sure what special items you got, but most likely they are account wide and you will have them on any new characters you create. Things like toys and pets and most mounts all are like that now.
The fact that realm is kind of hidden from you is new with the patch that’s about 10 days old now. I think they want to make it where realm is irrelevant, but it’s definitely not there yet. I think your issue could be useful feedback for them. To make sure they see it, submit it with the in game feedback option, or post in the General Discussion forum. They don’t collect feedback like that from this, the Customer Support forum.
