Why not both?
Reading that (and Blizzardâs post yesterday) just reminds me of high school girls getting in a fight while blaming each other for starting it. Itâs hard to believe these are companies when this is just playing victim for public opinion points.
Being forced to do business with a company overseen by the CCP is not a small issue. Imagine if in every city Blizzard had to license their game to a company controlled by the city council or police department.
Guess Blizz ainât getting back into China then.
With even less development money!
In countries where the government is pretty restrictive itâs more common.
Iâm sure plenty already use it⌠Is it like super common in terms of 30% of users or more? I doubt it but who knows
And then Blizzard will have to deal with US right wingers.
âDonât sell to China, dont get woke or i wonât buy it tooâ, whatever does that mean.
Thatâs what Iâm saying. Not being able to provide those games cuts off whatever revenue that will generate. Itâs no longer profit driven, itâs high school drama. thatâs the problem.
Granted, I may very well be wrong here, but recent events as of late (such as the owner of Twitter) it would seem that these things are motivated by pride and ego more than whatever gets you a bigger paycheck.
The same thing happened to Blizzard. Had they been more âaltruisticâ, they wouldnât have gotten sued, their names dragged through the mud, and lost their valued customer base along with their talent.
Itâs like midus, everything you touch turns to gold. But instead of gold its dung.
You⌠You realize that China is far, faaaaar less tolerant of progressivism than traditional, American conservatism right?
Thatâs exactly my point. They want Blizzard to cater to Americans, but the moment Blizzard add even 1 gay character, their blood started to boil.
Jesse, what the hell are you talking about?
China wanted Blizzard to cater to Americans over LBGTQ+?
What?
Huh? I never said China wants that
Blizzard is an American company dude.
damn they really doing my man garrosh like that.
Honestly, part of me thinks NetEase wanted Blizzard to censor certain things in Dragonflight and Blizzard wasnât willing to compromise their integrity on those aspects.
But weâll probably never know the real reason.
It is the Government that demands the censorship, not the companies. The companies only stay in business if they do what the Govt tells them. Otherwise the govt wonât approve the game and they canât do business. The Govt also requires EVERY foreign company to have a Chinese partner who of course, takes a ton of money. I am sure that gets passed down the line to the Govt in some form or another.
Then what on Earth are you babbling about?
Basically the US right wingers just want Blizzard to lose more money.
They want Blizzard to out of Chinese market, while still not supporting Blizzard if they went âwokeâ.
Being woke is actually catering to American audience.
Huh? I never said China wants that
You did, but I suspect you did not mean to say that. I think you said it backwards.
