lol you have no idea what addons even are, do you?
Anyone that is loudly anti-addon is usually completely clueless about how the game or addons actually work.
They hear some angry, shouty, internet man tell them that addons are required to play the game and just parrot that. Nevermind the fact that the hardest content they’ve ever done is queueable.
Of course not. There is usually only 1 fight per expansion where addons are even soft required, and I’d bet good gold that a very large portion of the anti-addon crowd not only can’t name them for the past 3 expansions, but never fought them when they were current.
It looks like I’ve been served a fresh plate of crow. I will happily eat it!
And that’s generally not a problem.
But you know, as well as I do, that toxicity and harassment has come from people using DPS meters. There is a reason why other games that have taken a stance against using DPS meters as a bludgeon, have much better communities as a result. Obviously these communities aren’t perfect, but generally speaking they’re far more welcoming because the people who ultimately turn a community in a more toxic direction find themselves getting banned when they try.
There was a conversation the other day in which some guy insisted an addon was required for lords of dread, and no one did the fight without it.
he ignored me when I told him my group didn’t use the addon.
You could make the argument that Lords soft required it if and only if you chose to inflict yourself with the no voice comms on the coordination check boss debuff.
To be fair the weakaura that made the mechanic 100% trivial and ignorable was beyond stupid. Blizzard did eventually break it.
Then blizzard broke it. people kept killing the boss.
I’m going to be honest with you, I’ve never actually seen someone or heard from someone I know that they’ve been harassed over poor performance on damage meters. I think this is mostly an overblown issue that has impacted fewer than 1% of the total lifetime playerbase of WoW.
And to be clear, I’m not talking about someone saying “trash paladin” at the end of a key or heroic dungeon or something. I’m talking about actual genuine toxicity that extends into real harassment. If someone performs poorly, and people tell them, then it’s entirely on that player as to whether they take that as constructive, even if it’s not worded nicely, or let it shatter their fragile ego.
Usually the people I see making a stink about damage meters are either
- using details as evidence to call out people for being AFK
- people trying to deflect their own underperformance onto others (IE: group dies to enrage, person who lost to the tanks uses a damage meter to flame everyone else who lost to the tanks)
The defense for DPS meter is so ludicrously bad. This is one if not the major reason as to why the game got progressively worse in terms of the community because of this if this was limited we wouldn’t have such an issue. But noooo, people go out of there to defend these sorta thugs because “meh meters reeee”
Yeah as someone who, as of next year, will have been been this game for 20 years, I can tell you flat out that it’s not an overblown issue.
But to each their own, I’m not going to argue with you about it.
Sounds like Blizzard just having a hissy fit honestly.
People will break their game one way or another.
To be fair, the Terms of Service has, since day one, specifically enumerated that “alteration of the game world” is strictly forbidden.
They also MASSIVELY nerfed the boss in the same hotfix lol. LoD was such a dumb boss on mythic pre-nerf and not because of the amogus mechanic.
Yeah, that’s DOA. Well worth the sacrifice to not have the game completely ruined with these overlays.
I know that you’re being a disingenuous forum troll, but do you believe that any game that has any performance metric, be it a leaderboard, ranking system, or win-lose condition, has a bad community entirely because of that performance metric.
I mean maybe it’s just me,but if I were facing constant criticism about my damage, at some point I’d have to be willing to be introspective and think “wow maybe I actually do stink.”
Overlays don’t alter the game world.
Oh no, I completely agree. I’ve been an outspoken Aug hater (even though I have an extremely geared Aug myself) regardless, though.
