Nerf WQ Pet Battles

Unfortunately, once it’s done we can’t do it again. This means no testing existing strats, and no coming up with something new if everything is broken unless someone just getting to the fight comes up with something. I wouldn’t mind if they made him re-battleable, sans any rewards, because at least that way we could do something :pensive:

No they aren’t, and I suck at pet battles. Plenty of online resources to help with strats or alternate pets to use. Also install the “Rematch” addon, it allows you to save battle teams depending on who you’re going up against. So if you find a good combo for a WQ battle just save the team (even type in some notes) and it automatically loads next time you click on the NPC to take them on.

Rock-paper-scissors if rock can randomly “crit” and defeat paper.

Totally agree they need to make it more like the Gym battles in Pokemon. Where say going up against a fire leader you should expect to have a near full set of water types and certainly no grass types. But it doesn’t matter whether your pokemon is a Lapras, Seaking or Blastoise. Right now in order to win some pet battles it is a kin to a gym leader expecting you to have a team of ONLY max level Blastoises who all know hydrocannon just to win.

The creativity of having a team that you pick is out the window and is replaced by an onerous requirement of googling the right team and hoping you have some each time. Or worse just cheesing it with a set of all level 1s which kinda defeats the whole training point.

I had no difficulty doing any of the SL pet battles and have saved teams (rematch) for most trainers or uniques with almost always 100% win rate. Im not doing family achievs tho…

There are some that are so - sooo - easy its annoying(turtles in bastion and most of the beasts in ardenweald).

Am I supposed to be Googling strategies for WQs? I mean, it doesn’t feel right that I have to copy the exact same pet combos as other players to beat a simple WQ. Yet, that is exactly what I find myself doing. I admit I am not the most hardcore player of this game but it seems that you can’t causally do battle pets because of how much time it requires to just do the WQ. That is a real shame because I enjoyed leveling my first few battle pets to 25 and turns out to beat the WQ I need to google strategies and then copy those. Which, in my opinion, isn’t fun at all or allows me to use the pets I have spent what little time I have free to spend on this game.

Family Familiar on Argus was nasty nasty for a few of them…

Honestly after just finishing the BRD challenge mode yesterday… I agree, I hadn’t ran pet battles in awhile (outside of just leveling alts via leveling pets) and I was just SHOCKED at how hard some of the stuff was…

I mean, it took LITERALLY ONE pet with a specific combination of abilities to beat the 8th round in BRD, similarly I had to drop everything I was doing and find a specific pet to beat the 7th round. Compared to the previous 2, BRD was a nightmare! I think its HORRIBLE design to create a mini-game that isn’t intuitive in the least bit, if you need -literally- one specific pet out of the thousands in the game then its bad design. It’s suppose to be fun/relaxing and not frustrating ^10 because you didn’t spend time during Halloween collecting some random pet you -might use- one day to counter something very specific.

I’m just glad I beat it, got my toy and to think I spent xx hours getting everything right, leveling dozens of extra pets JUST to get this darn shadowy disguise toy :(.

Congratulations! Not just anyone has that toy, just those ones that earned it.
About that “one specific pet”, have you met a frog named “Bufo”? lol, keep at it, and you will.

hehe, yeah thanks, toy is nice and I’ve already macroed it to a few of my characters burst which is what I wanted it for… Looks really cool on my paladin when popping avenging wrath, wings still glow of light but his entire form is shadow… Bufo huh? I remember farming him, a ton back when it was current content… The pet I was talking about was ‘cursed birman’… I had basically 2 rounds to kill that pesky dragonskin on the 8th round.

Hi. The shadow effect on your Paladin does sound cool, cool and custom.
This Hunter probably can’t pull it off, but maybe my VDH… have to see…
Bufo, a Timeless Island rare, could drop the Gulp Froglet which for a time was considered a “Have to Have” pet , when attempting some of Legion’s Battle pet abilities.

There are a few of them that are not just difficult…but impossible to 100%.

I spent pretty much the first 6 weeks of SL formulating teams for the pet battles…just over and over to figure out what would work, and I got some teams together for all of them. The issue is that teams that win 8 times in a row, suddenly fail 8 times in a row and I have to go back to the drawing board.

I have a lot of pets, but certainly not all of them (not even close).

I’ve definitely pulled my hair out on a couple of the Maldraxxi ones. GoodNESS.

There’s nothing stopping you from experimenting with the pets in your stable to try and figure out which ones are best for each WQ. You may even find a better strategy than others.

The pet dungeons are “end game” content for pet battles. They’re supposed to be hard.

Hey I get it but some fights requiring ONE pet out of 1000’s?? C’mon man, that’s not hard that’s absurd… Especially when so many pets are locked behind yearly events, long quests → like broot (what im gonna level up a druid, do the entire legion quest line and get enough currency to buy him?) c’mon that’s not HARD, its INSANE…

Hard would be scouring the world to find a specific rare breed combo, having multiple versions or getting that rare pet from a raid… Not something I need to wait literally a year for the event to come around because I was busy with IRL things… Also i’d like to point out this is a side game? this isn’t pokemon where all im doing is collecting pets and leveling…

Well, you probably wouldn’t have to do the entire Legion quest line to get Broot.
But it might be necessary. Welcome to semi-extreme pet collecting. Roll a DK to get the undead whelplings? Yep. Did that. Roll a Shaman to get the wolf pup? yep.
Broot? well, I have access to the Ruby Sapling and the Ever-Burning Treant, as well as the Fozling. Broot is unique, but not that unique. But eventually, I’ll have a Shaman. uppss, I meant Druid, (what’s the difference?) just to get the pet.
The yearly event pets can mostly, if not all, be bought on the AH. Actually, most non-unique pets that are drops in one way or another can be bought.
During Legion there were some Family Familiar Pet Battles that were do-able only with some very select pets. But as for just beating them, a mixed Family team wasn’t hard to put together. Shadow Lands pet battles are probably easier.
Dungeons are different. As you know.
Side game? I suppose so, but it is one amongst many that no-one has to participate in, so np, right? It’s mostly just for fun, the thrill of getting the rare pet, the achieve, the companion that matches your mount, your transmog, that can dance with you, or throw fire-balls at stray critters, or sleep on your lap.
The world quest pet battles are fairly easy for me, because of the experience I gained while gathering 1895 Battle Pets, playing the the side-game. :grinning:

Except there are no fights like that.

Are there some fights - in dungeons - that have a narrower selection of pets needed to beat them? Yes. Are some pets workhorses that tend to be useful in a lot of fights? Sure. But even on the occasions I don’t have the specific pet leveled up that a site like Xu-Fu’s suggests I’m generally able to come up with an alternative in my stable.

I don’t remember exactly, but it was about half way through your class hall improvement table. You could pick a plot of ground to plant and you’d get some goodies every few days, usually potions or buff items but also a chance at the two pets. I wish they were tradeable, I still have 5 or 6 extra Broots in my druid’s bank.

Ahh, extra Broots. I couldn’t stand Legion MM, so my main was a VDH. In the Class Hall was a sparring floor, and it was pretty common that a Hateful? Eye pet would drop, while sparring with a Demon. I have 3, and sadly, deleted several, or rather, turned them loose.
Maybe someday, we can trade. :slightly_smiling_face:

I agree, but when I don’t have “the” pet, I can find one with the same abilities and roughly the same HP or power stats and figure it out. I’ve had to do that several times with the clockwork gnome, for example. I have one now, but I didn’t for a LONG time, and that’s a pet you find in lots of strats.

You can always find a different way to finish things. The only fight I’ve ever encountered where that wasn’t true…was Algalon the Observer (which I posted about at length on this forum). I went and farmed a P/P Emerald Whelp for that one.

Pet battles were a known issue on 9.1 ptr I’d hazard a guess intentional, there’s a bug right now having to do with your pet’s speed and stuns and other like moves. It’s intention was to nerf your ability to level pet battling.
