Nerf Mage Tower now or I unsub

The tagline of 9.1.5 is “You’ll be sorry you asked for us to bring back the mage tower!”

The only reward of value is the bear form.

So, I’m assuming the bear fight was just magically and randomly made the worst one?

That’s exactly why they brought these Mage Tower challenges back, because they knew people will want to play them again, especially if they dangle a mount at the end. Too bad Blizz completely dropped the ball on it again, firstly by disabling all Legion gear in there, secondly by disabling all other timewalking useful gear such as old Legendaries, thirdly by stuffing up the scaling like they do every time they try to do these things.

They knew people would resub for it but pumped it out unfinished anyway even with this limited time window to get them done. It is disgusting honestly. I’m done with Blizz and WoW.

Just wanted to drop back in to say the free trial I made was amazing and I bought my daughter and I copies and we are now officially paying subs elsewhere. It’s amazing, especially since the people there aren’t constantly defending the developers because they don’t need to. To show my level of dedication (besides just being a subscriber since the mid 2000’s) I grinded Korthia…KORTHIA…on 6 different toons every day since it was released to get those stupid gem slots, 233 filler gear, and all 252 conduits and having spent one day elsewhere I can’t even imagine being put through that for something so useless there. I feel like I’m waking up from a bad dream…I think maybe we’re all victims of nostalgia to the point where the sunk cost fallacy has fully kicked in and it preventing us from leaving. At least if we take an expansion off maybe they’ll “pull a Legion” again or something…we can only hope right?

Careful, Blizzard hates that kind of language

The Blizz testing is ABSOLUTE garbage.

The only they are ever good at is frustrating the players, and harassing employees.

Like why do pro streamers with tons of gold itself need SEVERAL tries to unlock their main spec Mage Tower reward? It is so much harder than what it was in Legion.

There was testing. They promptly buffed it by 50% after testing.

Clowns.

Yes, I got the mage appearance. Do I feel accomplished? No. I’m P/O’d.

Preach! This truth is hard for most to hear.

I extended my sub to do the MT. I did all the OG Druid MT back in legion and I can absolutely say this is overtuned. They CLEARLY forgot we don’t have our weapons from then. Blizzard being bad at math… what else is new. I’m cancelling my sub too. I’m not spending millions buying old enchants and gems to do something that isn’t supposed to be as hard as it was back then. This is TW MT with lesser prizes.

Yeah, they blocked my account and said that to recover it I would have to send them pictures of me in a bathing suit :cold_sweat:

Oh man, LFR hero is going to unsub.

That’s just a case of not dealing with the mechanics correctly.

No. Wait. Don’t do it. Not… YOU.

well now that i have the set mage tower isnt hard and anyone should be able to do it! u got it man :D!!

I spent 600k on old gear and enchants.
I cleared this on 3 tanks (brewmaster, DH, DK) in legion in that order - brewmaster was first - all with ToS gear (I stopped before raiding argus and just came back for SL).

I now can get it to phase 2 but the dps check is impossible.
I saw a pro gamer take 4 hours of wipes to do this after clearing it on the bear so I know its mathamatically possible to clear but -

Who was this content designed for?

Timewalking content is ALWAYS aimed at more casual players who want to come back to experience older content at a more relaxed place.

This is the entire reason they made timewalking in the first place.

They didnt offer the original weapons seemingly BECAUSE this was going to be easier in the timewalking format and instead offered recolors of gear sets that ANY player can get right now farming old xmog raids.

The way they promoted this was - come get your old set.

This is absolutely harder than the original was on release.

Not only did we have the borrowed power abilities then but the artifact weapon did HUGE amounts of damage for tanks - which explained why those bosses had higher health pools.

Clearly not only did they seem to do ZERO consideration of who this content was supposed to be for but they didn’t even test it. I guarantee NONE of the team that did the original mage tower was involved in this in any way whatsoever.

This was a sloppy cut and paste job that they had zero understanding of what they were doing.

The original mage tower also had different adjustments to the scenarios based on what classes you were to make them possible to complete.

Blizzard also said that they intended only a very small fraction to get these early in legion but wanted them to become more accesable as time went on.

Right now the second rate timewalking reward is harder to get than the original weapons.

Which brings me full circle - who was this content supposed to be for?

This right now is beyond the difficulty of any mythic 15 or mythic raid in the game. On a time walking event. Did you say now that time walking is for mythic raiders and professional gamers only?

This at the most should of been like it was at the end of legion - at the very most. You arent giving out the original rewards.
The “lol your bad” crowd has them - I have them too, to say we did it when it was more difficulty.

This was just a hot garbage soup inside a dumpster fire,

If you guys keep listening to the very vocal 1% of people who cry on these forums all day cause they want all the content to be impossible to boost their self esteem - then thats all the people who will be playing.

You scammed casuals to come back for timewlking before 9.2 to get their cash then spit in their face. This is why people are leaving this game in DROVES.

If people who did it back in the day of the original are mostly saying its impossible outside of a small handful of pro-gamers and ultra elite players then this should NOT of been time walking, rather a permanent ultra hard feature like proving grounds scales or what they tried to make torghast into and failed.

This was a bad scam to get casuals to come back and give you their money then spit in their face.
I feel bad for casuals who were duped. Cause even with the nerfs this will never be the appropriate level it should be for how they marketed this at casual players.

If you read my little rant thanks! lol.

Mages do significantly less damage in Mage Tower when playing a spec without a Purge. When playing a MW or HPal, the mages will not one-shot until significantly higher stacks. When playing Resto Shaman, if you let one stack go unpurged and one cast goes through, the mage one-shots.

Blizz is nerfing player power, and not the tower itself. So here are your nerfs, hope you enjoy.

I loved your rant. Thanks!

If it takes a pro-gamer (who is well aware of mechanics) 4 hours, then this is literally going to be impossible for anyone without that amount of time or skill.

Either Blizzard is completely oblivious about how to tune encounters, or they had the wrong idea entirely about how difficult this content should have been.

Yes, at least for the specs that I did both in 7.2 and 9.1.5. Not only are our toolkits more limited, but enemies are numerically overtuned.

Obviously. Devs would theoretically get better at their job the second time around, but this Mage Tower is like a failed copy and paste attempt.

This isn’t how the original healing challenge worked for those specs with purges. If you purged the Mage, the damage reduction was simply a reward for utilizing your toolkit properly, rather than a hard, constant requirement.

Why are the devs adding and changing mechanics, like they did to Karam being off limits to kill in the Twins challenge?

I haven’t been able to clear the healing challenge on Resto Shaman yet, basically phase 1. I’m sure I could get it eventually, but it’s literally just a matter of planning every global in order and making literally no mistakes. That doesn’t feel like healer content to me. It feels like writing a script to do the encounter for me the same way every time. I might be a new player, but I wouldn’t necessarily consider myself a bad player. I’m regularly pugging 17s on multiple healer specs without issue. The Resto Shaman challenge definitely feels overtuned to say the least. It’s at least tuned to the point where it doesn’t feel like I’m playing WoW anymore shaping the fight with my toolkit, and instead I’m just memorizing the multiple choice answers in order for an exam.
