So as a warrior, a disturbing amount of my bis gear is leather/mail. Is it acceptable to need a piece that’s bis for me if there’s a hunter or sham in group, for example?
Half of my gear from Sunwell is mail lmao.

Yes, it’s ok.
Unless it has int.
You have that right to go for more damage vs survivability… That is Min/Max tho… You shouldn’t Min/Max till end game. Most everyone is still leveling.
For the horde you can need on everything if it has a chance to go to a blood elf.
Feel free to roll on gear specifically designed for druids, shaman, and hunters.
Just don’t get mad when they feel free to roll on weapons that you think are designed for warriors.
yeah I agree. for leveling to 70 there’s no reason to go for leather/mail. you’ll end up replacing it soon anyway, so might as well let the rogues/hunters have it.
If you need it, need it. Simple as that. If people give you flak for pressing the need button because you need something, then they need to go pick up a dictionary and stop being so entitled.
When ever theres profit to be made or someones being a jerk and you accidently hit need
TBF op was talking about end game gear, not leveling.
I’m pretty sure the plate gear in TBC is more than adequate for a warrior.
If you are DPSing, don’t roll against a tank or healer for their gear.
Beyond that, roll away. Anyone that complains you shouldn’t roll on mail/leather is an idiot.
I’ve had hunters trying to roll on armor/stam/resil rings “for PvP”, when I was rolling to wear them to become a stronger tank. Was infuriating.
Or idiots listening to that garbage addon that tells them some super marginal piece of cloth, is an upgrade for their hunter, and cheating out casters that are still in greens.
Need should always be differentiated between want. Rolling need on a nice thing you’re going to replace super soon, vs the guy who it’s BIS for is a tool move.
yes, it’s not as black and white as some people are making it out to be. rolling “need” on some stamina item because you might use it later for PvP is pretty selfish. people are supposed to be social enough in an MMO to figure out what’s acceptable and what isn’t. if the item isn’t clearly made for your class, you should ASK the people in your group if it’s okay to roll need on it.
I’m 68 almost 69 and am rocking some leather pieces cause they’re pre raid bis
This is why warriors are the new hunters. They need on almost everything. Talk about being a greedy goblin.
If it’s good, it’s good.
I’m a caster and I don’t care if a druid rolls on my cloth gear.
Right now, I would discuss it with the group first, make sure everyone or at least the majority are cool with it. If you go into an instance or raid having already discussed looting and rules, it makes things go easier.
While people are leveling, more gear is going to be useful and it is possible for something outside your armor class to be an upgrade. Just be mindful of that.
My rule is we see who it is the bigger upgrade for, if for you it is a 20% upgrade, but for a hunter, it is a 60% upgrade, then I usually let the hunter have it. But loot rules vary from group to group so it is important to lay them out before you start.
The last place to be debating looting rules is when something has dropped. No, just get it out in the open right from the get-go so there is no ambiguity later.
Pre bis are fair game for anyone that need them. And if healer/tank roll need for dps gear (imo a right move) dont get salty if a dps roll need for a pre bis of healer/tank.
In a PuG, yes, it is perfectly fine without a word being said.
In a group with friends or guildies, I’d give them a heads up, but it will more than likely be perfectly fine.
If people do not understand at this point in MMO History that your armor weight may vary based on your spec, then that is on them.
Yeah, I can echo that. Don’t roll outside of your spec, and you are good to go.
MS>OS is the only hard rule in PuGs.
