Need clarification on mystery files downladed directly from Battle.net Launcher

I am trying to get to the bottom of what the two files I downloaded from the Battle.net Launcher the other day are. Both files were labeled Unknown Game (wow_beta) . These were not ads, they were actual files that downloaded directly from the Battle.net launcher within a day of each other. No new games have appeared in my drop-down menu aside from TWW Public Test Realm 11.0, which I installed separately. I initially posted about this in Customer Support a few days ago, and my post was moved to Tech Support, where it has since gone unanswered. I submitted an in-game ticket on the matter, and the first ticket was answered with a generic, automated response that had nothing to do with my question while the second advised I post on the forums because he was unable to answer questions pertaining to beta. I do not have beta access at this time though.

All I want to know is what these files are that I downloaded from the Blizzard launcher.

The forum isn’t a direct point of contact for the staff. To me they sound like beta files, but I can’t confirm anything.

That is what I assumed originally as well, but I don’t have access to the beta itself or the beta forums. I’m not here asking for beta access, and I am posting this because the GM responding to my ticket advised I do so. I just want Blizzard clarification on what this is, because as of right now, all I know is that I downloaded 2 mystery files to my computer that seemingly have no use.

Following, interested in answer.

The launcher has seemingly allowed people to update their old betas from past expansions over to the TWW beta regardless of their beta status, that much seems certain. (You can boot up the beta client from the folder and see the beta login and everything but it’ll error when you try to get onto the servers since you don’t have the key)

The mystery is why the launcher even allowed that in the first place and I don’t think we’ll ever get an answer there.

I’m sure we won’t because the launcher is a completely different software product from WoW, so there is no support for it here.

Since this is actually a Battle.net client behavior, it’s more likely to be seen by the right people if addressed in the correct forum.

Well, the original post I made on this topic was in Customer Support, and a Blizz moderator actually moved it to this forum so I assume this is where they want my question posted. :woman_shrugging:

Customer Support is an information desk for account issues.

If you’re in the War Within beta and the launcher downloaded files named beta, I’m not understanding what the issue is. That said, the forums are for players assisting other players. There are no direct contact points for developers, which would be in charge of file downloads.

I am not in beta, that’s why this is an issue. If I was in beta, I would just connect the dots, but since I’m not, I want to know why these files were downloaded to my computer. I think it’s reasonable to want to know why the launcher is downloading files that cannot be linked to any clear purpose.

Are you telling me that there is no longer any way for players to actually communicate with any sort of customer service/tech support at Blizzard? Because I have seen Blue responses to players on these forums, and a Blizzard GM replied to my in-game ticket telling me to post my question on the forums so I guess I really don’t understand what you’re saying.

No, what I said is:

Though I guess the beta forum is a semi-contact point occasionally.

You can reach customer service reps (they have no hand in development) via the ticket system. Sometimes there are CS Reps monitoring threads in the Customer Support forum. If the CS reps don’t have an answer about the file, I’m not sure where you’ll get one. But again, this just sounds like background game data. There are threads dating back to the Classic beta with the same file name, but no direct answers to those either.

It’s not just background data though, like Itsuki said, I literally have the beta files in my wow folder and it is updated to the most recent build. I just dont have beta access. Yes, I have been in multiple betas previously but I do not have access this time and if people are getting these files who don’t have access, there is an issue somewhere. We should not be downloading files that we do not have access to.
