Unholy dks are necromancers, but cooler. Because they wear plate and hit things with swords and stuff. Which is infinitely cooler than sitting in a robe like a retiree on a cruise ship wiggling your hands. Would you rather be a space marine or Harry Potter?

They’re not but there is crossover. Its just not what a person requesting the Necromancer class is looking for. Plus it can be so much better than what Death knights offer.

I have been waiting for a Necromancer and Voodoo Witch Doctor since the release of the game! Those are definitely my most desired classes. I have not been into many of the more recent classes such as monk and evoker.

Heck, it’s like saying a Paladin is a Priest. They both can heal and raise people with the Light.

The problem though is what’s the gameplay of a Necromancer going to be like. Warlock has already taken the “a bunch of deposable pets caster” role.

the biggest issue is how would you make a necromancer and not have it be a discount warlock? minion build so demo spec, rot and decay so aff they fill the same niche’s maybe the third spec could be healer would they heal with damage or would you make them a hot healer.

I would love a Necromancer, but I doubt we will ever see them. Warlocks are too similar and for some weird reason people keep saying unholy DKs are necromancers.

Are these the kind of players that Blizzard is catering too? Is your immersion so fragile that having a pure caster version of a necromancer encroaches on your gameplay?

Meanwhile they’re fine with Priests and paladins, who literally share a spec theme and name lol

Heres how I’d do Necromancer.

The way I envision it there would be a tank, heal and dps spec.

Tank would use a beefy pet of some kind to facilitate the tanking process. This “pet” would give a big bonus to health(Stamina probably) and share damage with the character. Smaller summons would be used to facilitate cooldowns, defensives and damage to give the feeling of an army of the dead setup. I like this concept because it makes the necromancer feel like they’re regularly summoning and disposing of their undead the way I’d really like a necromancer to play.

The DPS would be using the shadowfrost and control type abilities. This is also where a lot of those Maldraxxus colored death magic would be. (though I’d expect those effects for most of the class as a whole.) I like to imagine that it has some of that support role setup that Dracthyr Evokers got just to make it a little more interesting. Dps that has a main focus of slowing down and reducing the attacks of enemies while still taking them down. Most of this would be direct damage setups that leave effects over time. Cast shadowfrost for instance and it leaves the enemy slowed on attacks or movement or somesuch. Still has the ability to summon undead of course but these would be more akin to the cooldowns and defensives type setup from the tank spec rather than a “pet”.

Healing would follow the use of Anima and flesh magics we saw in Maldraxxus because that was actually really neat. Stitching flesh and using the blood of the enemy to empower healing spells and also using the same summoning of undead for cooldowns and defensives cause…coolness.

So yeah kinda similar to a cross between a lock and a death knight. Which really is what most folk are looking for as that hits more of what a Necromancer tends to be in most peoples views. (and I just went over my view on it so you can see mine specifically)

I’m torn on what armor class I’d want them to be though. I like the idea of a tanking cloth spec for once but I also have a soft spot for necromancers wearing mail in general. For WoW though I’d probably choose the cloth route.

Weapons I’m thinking daggers, one handed swords, staff, polearm and off hands. Makes the most sense to me. Could also see one handed axes… for chopping up bodies and such.

Lich would be an Elite spec for sure where you’re able to appear lichlike for a bit or something and the final ability would be a phlactery that allows you to ressurect yourself on a timer or something no matter what.

Not sure what I’d do for the other two Elite specs… something for the Undead Army concept… And something to really show off the Anima or Stiching concepts of the healing spec.

so… its “dumb” because you don’t understand?.. lmao… i dont think the statement that you replied to is the “dumb” one. and so quick too to lash out instead of understand… in hallowfall… the arathi are using light magic to raise the dead… you know… necromancy?.. do you even read the quest texts? there is no “resurrections” in wow, only for the player character there is … for gameplay reasons… but in universe… to raise the dead is necromancy… and is unethical… Khadgar is undead bec Anduin resurrected him. no different than the forsaken … does no one know lore?

Warlocks ain’t exactly summoning the entire Legion. No reason to think Necromancers would summon the entire Scourge. I think we’ll be fine. lol
