In a recent PTR change, everyone gets a 415 weapon about 5 minutes after stepping into Nazjatar by completing one of the introductory quests.
Welfare epics aren’t a new concept but it seems excessive to hand out the equivalent of a Mythic weapon from the previous tier as a participation award. In past expansions a weapon that powerful would at the very least been gated behind a quest chain that spanned the entire zone, or an Exalted reputation.
I’m totally in favor of catch-up systems and means of gearing alts, but taking it this far trivializes a lot of content, kills the market for crafted weapons, and psychologically de-values the acquisition of powerful loot in the first place.
What crafted weapons are useful right now anyway? Everything I can craft looks near useless for my character and I still have a 355(I think) bow equipped. Would a 400 ilvl weapon be better since its the same as the DS Wafront?
Oh just stop whining about casuals getting gear already.
It’s a 415 for Elune’s sake. Not like it’s 440 gear.
This is just getting ridiculous. I am fully aware I’m going to get flamed for this, but these kinds of threads are just as bad as the anti-LFR posts and the 10m vs 25m posts of Cata and LK.
Gear exists for casuals and always has existed in the game. It’s time for people to accept this.
Holy crap, that is ridiculous. They will increase the crafted gear ilvl to 375, but if you can get 415 weapons from an intro quest, what is the point of trying to sell BS weapons?
Not only that, they completely invalidated the value of any other weapon you can get from warfronts, emissary caches and mythic+.
I can expect this to happen every time a new expansion is introduced, but this happening in middle of an expansion is crazy.
Ugh, that is kinda lame, I’d have to agree. Should have been a 400, let the people that have had pretty bad RNG pre-8.2 acquiring a good weapon a slight catch-up. 415 is a leapy catch-up.
I’ve been using a 385 until just last night, got a 395.
Eh… as somebody who is super casual, 415 seems a bit high for an intro quest reward. I don’t feel like I’ve done enough to earn it. A 400 would be high enough, but it still feels a bit odd to get something of that iLVL.
Okay that makes since. Honestly I would be okay with the 400 also. I have barely had any time to play this expac due to IRL stuff. I have been looking for a better weapon forever now lol.
I’m of the mind that crafting should be the means of catchup gear. It’d make it much more useful again. Have the gear also be upgradeable for the craftsman, so there’s interest in gear-crafting as a viable means to progress one’s character.
I am all in for casuals getting their stuff (I am a casual btw), they can get whatever they want investing some time in the game, but if you just handout the best of the best gear available from the hardest difficulty in the game just for completing a silly intro quest, you are breaking the sense of progression.
Don’t they usually add stuff like that for people to try the ptr? Like they had a vendor the other day literally giving out free 415 to try but now he’s gone.
