My shoulders……… but I can’t miss them.
MM hunters having a choice in pets or no pets. lol
More seriously, I miss class based quests for like getting some abilities. Like Druids getting their forms being quest based. I’d love to see those things come back.
Invest in actual levelling as both a means to immerse ourselves within the world and as tutorial.
They’ve never done anything well which is why I’m still here
Professions that didn’t feel like jobs.
Oh yeah!
It was a great boost for pvp. I was a fan of that too!
I enjoy leveling and gearing. The dopamine rush of getting a level or a thing.
The fact that they made both sort of non-events is a bit of a bummer. I really enjoyed the chance of getting a cool or valuable drop in open world, which… well I guess there are some recipes but who has ever gotten them?
So rare items or drops, some from open world
A longer and more engaging leveling experience
Class design. Mists of Pandaria class design is unrivaled, almost all classes were fun to play and everyone was OP.
Gear design. So many old gear sets are so iconic, meanwhile now a days I couldn’t even tell you what is a raid set vs a PvP set.
Raiding. I miss 10 man hardmode raiding. Also modern raids are so bloated with abilities that its just unfun.
Tbh I’m having a hard time coming up with something.
I guess I think something blizzard did better back then than now was reward gear that made sense from content people were doing.
I say this cautiously. People should have access to gear obviously but also that epic purple used to be a motivator to try new things.
Sometimes it feels like people have more gear than they know what to do with. I’ve seen it a few times where people want to get better gear but the content that would reward it seemed out of reach for some reason.
It’s like a huge leap instead of a step into content that would reward them.
But for somebody like me, I love the gear. It’s so easy to get geared and do whatever I want afterwards. Lol it’s like some people have the experience to use a bridge but others don’t have a bridge to use at all. They have to try to jump instead of have some road to build it.
It could be that I care for friends I see struggling to do things too. But it’s just something I feel causes an issue somehow.
I miss reforging; not having to end up vending a piece that would have been an upgrade if it had the right stats.
So Classic and TBC cause he joined before Wrath.
S.E.L.F.I.E. was quite amazing
The original hunter setup/play method (feed pet - if you don’t it gets ticked and may abandon you, no infinite ammo, lean pet skill by training pets, teach your pets skills, pet talent trees, etc. etc.)
I miss the top rotor coming out of my engineering-built gyrocopter mount. Dragonflying killed that.
intricate plot/quest/story lines
prime example: the onyxia quest chain.
You start out dealing with the defias brotherhood in Elwynn Forest. This in turn spiderwebs into other quest chains that are indirectly or directly a result of defias activities that spans across multiple zones, multiple dungeons and eventually involving 2 raids.
You learn that they are responsible as to why stormwind was in such disarray as you play messenger between westfall, redridge and duskwood with each of the local magistrates/militias wondering where the army is.
It goes even further when you learn that they have captured the king
It gets even more insidious when you begin to learn that the defias were merely puppets and that they, as well as stormwind as a whole, are being manipulated by black dragons in disguise.
By the end, you probably end up doing hundreds of quests directly/indirectly related to it
The other good example was the lich king’s presence throughout basically the entire expansion.
He constantly sets challenges before us. Constantly watching and monitoring our progress. Only during the encounter in ICC after he kills the entire raid and begins to pontificate do we learn why. He wanted to make sure that we were truly azeroth’s best, so that when he raised us as master’s of the scourge, there would be no answer and that he would ultimately succeed.
Introducing Arqueology into the new expansions. I really doing Arqueology in Legion and BfA. Nowadays it’s not even mentioned…
Leveling as a significant journey. But I also recognize my nostalgia for that playstyle is not how people en masse want to play in 2025. And that’s ok, even if I miss it. I don’t know that it can really come back, as it was. I do think it could exist as looonnnggg quest chains that are not required as the main campaign, that could work.
Ugh… Did you forget the PvP requirement. There was much forum… noise about that.
My son ran many of our guild members through battlegrounds so they could knock off the PvP part of that quest.
I enjoy pvp so I honestly didn’t even realize it had a pvp requirement. I just completed that part naturally
Yup same thing with me. I was still running Random Battlegrounds all the time, so that part came naturally. There were a lot of PvE only people that were not happy though.
It turned out you could form two teams and do a skirmish to satisfy the requirement by win trading. We did that in guild and used it as a PvP training mode. (Towards the end.)
Both teams would be in the same Discord channel. We’d give assignments. So after zoning in Team 1 would attempt to kill the healer on Team 2. The job of Team 2 was to prevent that at all costs. It was actually pretty fun and we were able to get several people into running battlegrounds because of it.
Then… WoD happened and everything dissolved… lol
