People would not go to the extents they do if the names weren’t sellable. At most I can reason that someone would have a name for every class, if not a few extra. Not hundreds of names. I’m not talking about any specific name in particular, because there are plenty I would be happy with and MANY more that I would be happy seeing other people have. That doesn’t exist because name sellers do, though I know you’ll defend it as you’ve made a profit from it.
This is simply not true and you’re lying to yourself.
Anyways, I’ve tried to help you understand but I can see you’re just going to stomp your feet and repeat “no” over and over.
Sorry you didn’t get your name. Keep an eye on the forums when the new xpac comes out for announcement of name releases.
It doesn’t matter how they “acquired” them. 99% of the time, it’s acquired by being first to claim it, pursuant to Blizzard’s rules. The rest may have purchased the name, also pursuant to Blizzard’s (unsupported transaction) rules.
This is allowed. If you would like to suggest they stop allowing it, you’ll need to suggest it in the General forum or using the in-game suggestion feature.
Your opinion is fine to have, but it’s not the opinion Blizzard has. You don’t need to understand how it benefits the community. That’s not your issue.
“Most” names? Oh, stop it. There are literally billions and billions of name possibilities out there. Use the random name generator if it’s that tough of a situation for you.
Telling you the Blizzard stance is neither supporting nor condemning them.
To be utmost blunt: You’re just upset and coming to the forums to try to get folks to see your thinking on this. No, no one is going to as it doesn’t make sense with your reasoning, nor we’re going to really give into your point regardless of what you think someone is, nor what they’re getting out of it.
No, someone holding onto names ain’t devaluing the game, harming it, or whatever you think there is to support your feelings about this. No, a name is a make-or-break for someone. This same is nearly 20 years old, all the good names was gone around year 5. There isn’t anything one can do to release a given name unless that account is inactive a good while.
No, just because you want a given name doesn’t mean someone else should give it up because their low level alt being used a lot.
No, the game won’t dramatically change because a set of names are freed up.
No, a given name isn’t needed to play this game, or any other really, as folks will pick another name that suits them fine.
All of that is fine, names being taken and used is fine. Except the name selling practice. Doesn’t seem to have any benefit for the game. Is bad.
You can pick a different name. Nothing is forcing you to get the name that someone else is rightfully using. There is no detriment because there is an easy and simple solution that you fail to see.
The restaurant analogy doesn’t work, because nobody is stopping you from entering the game. Nobody is barring you access to the content. It is just you blocking yourself from moving on.
Im not defending the practice, nor do i condemn it. I’m just questioning the fact that you let this issue affect you and the barrier you seem to think exists that prevents people from playing the game if they can’t have a certain name.
Names aren’t 50 mil.
Especially not “Cc.”
I’m sure you know exactly how much the name sold for, but on the off-chance that someone would be honest when there’s nothing at stake I’m going to take them at their word and not you at your skepticism. They also aren’t the only person I’ve talked to that has bought names for more than several millions of gold.
I highly doubt he paid 50m. As someone who’s in the name trade, he probably only paid around 150-450k for it, tops.
Anything over 500k is a ludacris ask.
Your guildy got you good. Guildies do prank fellow guildies sometimes.
I’m doing it anyways.
RP realms are a bit of an edge case, tbf. Names are taken a bit more seriously over there and it’s not anything I really dip my toes into anymore.
I’m selling my names a bit cheaper there.
It’s Area 52 where I jacked up the prices.
yea i don’t by the 50 million for a name you would need 6 toons just for the gold cap alone
Exactly.
This thread was a wild ride from CS to here.
Bottom line: name selling isn’t a common practice, was never a common practice and will never be a common practice. Instead of complaining about name selling, advocate for changes to the naming system:
- More characters allowed in names
- The option for one space, hyphen or apostrophe
There. Now people have the ability to use a last name or other conventional naming methods for their races and it opens up more names for people.
At 65 characters per account he would need nearly 15 accounts to be sitting on all those names.
Rare Green post W
If you’re the Sen I’m thinking of you’re one of the name sellers that was mentioned by name for having over 700 across multiple servers. Funny seeing you and Tovi who also sells names here
