Interestingly enough my name as a shaman “touchmytotem” was reported and I was forced a name change. I appealed and explained my reasoning… Also provided evidence that 77 other people have the same name… Why am I being singled out for a name change? Also how does this violate any EULA or policy pertaining names? I also hate the fact that tickets are now just automatically closed without any real reasoning… There was a time when GMs were humans, and treated the community as such. Even in its peak, GMs would take the time to communicate. Now when the game is dying, and in need of that “special touch” we are being treated worse than ever. Just sad.
Dont believe me, take a look at 77 other people with the same name
Also in violation of what?
This is the naming policy.
This is the code of conduct link I was provided (broken)

Hello Bhaluhealer,
I understand you’ve found 77 examples of naming violations. Unfortunately, the Armory is not a reliable means of identifying individuals. If you do see them in person, please right-click and report them at that point.
Thanks!
If you honestly and sincerely want to claim ignorance as to why the name is not appropriate - then think of it this way - the name alludes to something sexual, therefore not allowed.
I understand you’re looking for some clarification. I hope the following is useful to you:
"Communication
You may not use language that could be offensive or vulgar to others.
[…]
Names are subject to the same rules established above."
It is risky sure… inappropriate? I would venture to say majority of the names in game are inappropriate then… The game is rated T for teens… Also allows for profanity in NPC dialouge… but “touchmytotem” is where they draw the line?
Blizzard’s In-game Code of Conduct:
Blizzard games offer a fun and safe place to interact with one another across various game worlds. We encourage our players to cooperate and compete in our games, but crossing the line into abuse is never acceptable. If you come across a player violating the policies below, you should report them.
Communication
When participating in communication of any kind (chat, voice communication, group finder), you are responsible for how you express yourself. You may not use language that could be offensive or vulgar to others.
Hate speech and discriminatory language is inappropriate, as is any obscene or disruptive language. Threatening or harassing another player is always unacceptable, regardless of language used. Violating any of these expectations will result in account restrictions. More serious and repeated violations will result in greater restrictions.
Naming
Names are subject to the same rules established above. Any name the player has the ability to customize—such as player names, BattleTags, and guild names—must be appropriate and inoffensive. Any name that violates our standards or disrupts the community will be changed, and additional limitations may be placed on the offending account per our discretion.
Take note that acceptable names are determined by player reports and Blizzard’s decision, and role-playing servers may have distinct standards for using game-appropriate names.
You may not use language that could be offensive or vulgar to others.
Names are subject to the same rules established above.
Do you require any further clarification?
The ESRB and CoC are not synonymous.
Blizzard must abide by the former while we must abide by the latter.
-
The rating os for the GAME made by the devs, not players. They’ve hold to the esrb to keepnthat rating.
-
Anything the players make in game is hold to Blizzard’s rules. If the players could affect the rating, Minectaft would be rated AO, adults only.
Blizzard is governed by the ESRB. That is rated T for Teens. Players are goverened by the EULA and the Code of Conduct. As such, because Blizzard does not have direct control over player content, players contribution to the game are the equivalent of rated E for Everyone.
Other players breaking the rules does not justify you doing it too. You do not know if any of those names were reported and players have not logged in and changed the name. That’s just one reason why the name could still be on the Armory. The Armory can be slow to update as well. Some of those could have had their names changed and the Armory hasn’t updated them yet.
It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t mean you get to do similar.
While you all are making valid arguments, and I do respect your opinions. I am afraid we are going to have to agree to disagree. Given the stance of appropriateness based on a players personal views, there are many names that could be found offensive. Perhaps, something that you say my be offensive to me and not to person X. That is where the GMs step in and decide, so there has to be some guideline for them to follow. Otherwise one GM may find it offensive, whilst another will not care. With such a lose construct of rules… Some people will be treated unfairly, whilst others getaway with the same thing. Don’t get me wrong, I am not here playing the victim. It was a risky name… However, do I think it warrants a report? It is a shaman after all. Also without context it seems meaningless. If would be one thing, if I went and said inappropriate things to other players and then with a name to follow… That would make sense. Whereas, if I ganked/camped/declined group etc etc… any other behavior that someone may not have liked and now I am subject to being reported out of spite.
Try this site for fantasy related name https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/ gota rember its blizzards sandbox we have to folow there rules, If you choose to keep changing the name to something blizzard doesnt agree with not only will u get a name change but it will be something blizzard chooses and you wont be able to change.
GMs do not have the luxury of cherry picking what name works and what does not. They have policy to follow if they wish to keep being a game master.
The correlation to dishonorable PvP activities has no bearing on this, though that also is something they will not intervene with.
There doesn’t need to be context when it comes to names being inappropriate. It doesn’t matter what you claim the name means or is about. It’s all about perception of others and how they view it.
Awesome site Darthwraith… bookmarked it I understand the sandbox thing… cant do much about it but rant… so here we are lol.
I understand you believe there is some subjectiveness to the process. Because human interactions are wild and varied, it is impossible to have a single set of guidelines that are both exact and foolproof.
For that reason, there is an appeals procedure, in which a different individual reviews the information and decides whether the prior action was correct.
The CoC does however single out vulgarity. In this case it seems fairly straightforward to me.
I agree with you Nephe… But that perception is not a community perception… Or perhaps I am not familiar with the reporting then.
1 person reports, 1 GM reviews… 1 name change coming right up.
How does 0.00004% (2 people with an average community size of 5mil) reflect the community???
Numbers are probably not right, but you get the idea.
Policy is policy They cant let one name slide just because they have to folow policy weather or not its 1 report or 100 reports Policy is tough but policy is fair thats why they have a apeal process most games dont.
I think there could be a better process…perhaps let the community decide!
Player reports>>>gets send to community for review>>>> A larger sample of the community reviews>>>>> based on community opinion>>> decision is made. Perhaps subject to appeal via GM at that point…
Also, the thing is, Blizzard has been doing this for a long, long time. They’re pretty aware of the cute things Players will use for names and such. Yours that was reported is certainly not new nor original.
Now that wouldn’t be abused at all… But you’re welcome to suggest it, either via the in-game suggestion tool or general forum as there are no developers in the CS forum.
