Name change not putting names on reserve?

Hey so the name change is supposed to lock the old name from being used by other accounts for 90 days, I changed my character’s name Monday night and the name, one I have had on my account since Mists of Pandaria, is suddenly saying it has been taken and I wasn’t the one to use it.

You will want to report that as a bug. Unfortunately, if there happens to be an issue with the reserving of names, then only the development team would be able to address that.

Just to be certain though, as the name is supposed to be locked to your battle.net account, I just want to make sure you didn’t use it on another character on the same battle.net, right?

Doesnt the name have to be on a toon lvl 50 or higher 10 or under is fair game or am i wrong.

When it’s a deleted character, it has to be level 30+ and then the name is locked for 30 days.

No, I hadn’t used it on my account - I had originally moved it to my Warrior on MG, but then the game wouldn’t let me character restore my old shaman with the same name, so I had to change her name back to her old one and restore the shaman, then change it on the Shaman, then wait out the 3 day timer to change names on my Warrior so I could grab it again.

It should’ve been on hold for 90 days but it seems like someone used the name earlier today somehow.

Are you able to add the name to your friends list in-game? It could be a delay issue I’ve seen mentioned a few times recently.

It’ll either add the name or tell you they’re of the opposite faction, I believe. If it is indeed taken.

Yes, which is why I’m so concerned. The name should have been reserved for three months, not available for someone else to use.

Absolutely, we’re aware of how it should behave.

I just hadn’t seen you mention it and it was worth ruling that step of troubleshooting out.

You’ll definitely want to follow up as Perl mentioned and submit a bug report. Maybe also submit a Purchase Failure ticket to see if there’s anything a GM can do for you.

I’ve posted in the bug report forum now, and I have a ticket opened under “Appeal Name Change” but would it be better to reopen it under Purchase Failure?

Appeals are generally only given templated responses in accordance with whether an action taken was verified to be true or false, it won’t be related in any way to a paid premium service behaving irregularly.

I’ve switched it over to Purchase Failure, hopefully Blizzard will do something about the issue.

Something tells me that the character restoration has played a roll in this, but I’m left scratching my head trying to figure it out. Hopefully a Blue or a GM can figure out what happened.

Honestly I think the same, but the name was still under my account on the old character I restored and name changed, so it should’ve still locked it (at least for the initial 30 from deleting the character).

I just really hope they’ll be able to resolve this for me because getting ahold of decent names on Roleplaying servers is hard.

To set some expectations, I’ve never seen them take back a name from another player. If the game let someone use the name, it’s unlikely they will force them to change it so that you can have it back as the cooldowns are not something a GM can bypass really.

This happened to me and the GM gave me back the name.

Backstory: I have two paladins. One is named Alessandra and the other is named Isidore. Alessandra is a paladin I’ve had since Legion or before because she had the Lord title. Isidore is newer. Well, I wanted Isidore to be “Lord Isidore” but I was way too lazy to go through the campaign and names were now on sale for 3 for $10 or something like that.

I bought the three name tokens then put in a ticket and asked a GM to please switch the names around and use the tokens. They replied back and said “we don’t do that anymore.” So I said fine, whatever and did it myself. Changed Alessandra’s name to something like “Alessandrax” and changed Isidore’s name to Alessandra.

I didn’t make a level one because I thought I knew the name was safe. I just waited the three days required for your character to have their name changed then tried again but to my horror, it said Isidore was taken. I put in a ticket and this is what they told me:

Hello there!

I am Specialist Game Master here again. I understand that you ran into a bit of trouble swapping out your characters names.

I took a look into this for you Kathleen and Isidore was unintentionally made available so I went ahead and freed it up for you and gave it to your Level 70 Blood Elf Paladin. You will see the change the next time you login.

I am going to let you keep that 3rd name change to use at your own discretion. Once again I am sorry for any frustrations that this has caused you.

Thank you for your time I hope you have an amazing day (ó ì_í)=óò=(ì_í ò) pound it.

However, just want to throw a small disclaimer in there. After I thought about this situation, I have a feeling they helped me for two reasons and maybe a blue can confirm it.

1.) The person that took it from me was probably holding it on a level 1.
2.) I had already made a ticket before I did the name changes asking for help switching the names around. I was doing what they told me to do.

I legit don’t know if they would take your name back from someone that put it on a level 80 (for example) and used a name change to do so.

The person used it for a brand new character.
