I have purchased a name change, but when I go to use it, it says the name I want is not available on my realm. I have tried adding that character as a friend on both an alliance and a horde character on the same realm, and it says “Player not found.”
How can there be nobody with that name, but the name is unavailable?
Just because it doesn’t come up when you try to add as friend, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It may be a low level character that someone else has saved.
It could also be flagged if it has some similarities to blocked names.
That usually is the best way to tell, however there are reserved names.
Those are names our developers have set aside because they are either in use in-game, or they may have plans to use them in the future.
Another instance is for those races who haven’t chosen a faction yet (i.e. Pandaren). You wouldn’t be able to add them on either faction.
The name in question is “Chopper.”
Is there no way to see if the name can be released?
On Shandris? That’s in use. Horde character - not low level. Not sure why it wouldn’t show for you if you tried to add.
Character is 80, played this expansion, so it’s not getting released any time soon.
