Why are Nagas stealing water in Zangarmarsh if they can live in the ocean?

Where do you think the vendors get it?
Nagas sell water to vendors for silver> Vendors sell water to players > players kill naga for silver to buy water. If the naga opened a water stand we could cut out the vendors, get cheaper water, and end the naga/player conflict!

They can live in the ocean on Azeroth, why to travel to Outland to steal water in Zangarmarsh?

Ten thousand years later, Vashj answered Illidan Stormrage’s call and followed him first to Lordaeron, where she met up with Kael’thas Sunstrider and rallied his blood elves to Illidan’s cause, and then to Outland when Illidan deposed Magtheridon as lord of the shattered world. As leader of Illidan’s naga, Vashj and her followers set up shop in Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh, where the naga began to pump the lakes into their underground lair. During the Burning Crusade, adventurers invaded the Serpentshrine Cavern where Vashj made her lair and slew the Coilfang matron, her dying breath an apology to her master.

- There is no ocean in outlands. A better question is why they don’t just harvest Earth water instead. Outlands water is very limited. Earth however is mostly ocean. No one would even notice if they made a portal out in the ocean and took as much as they needed.
- It’s not “stealing” to use water from the wild.

It’s more about preventing anyone else from having water. Vashj says as much.
This is why her plan doesn’t work in Azeroth, by the way. It’s a lot harder to drain oceans!

You’re right. The lakes and rivers in Outland should completely dry up and vendors should start charging scalper prices for water until your guild kills Vashj, then the world should phase to how it is now.
Same reason Ogres are chopping down the giant mushrooms. Resource victory.
Outland is their home now considering their leader is based in Outland. Thought I also read, years ago, that they wanted the water to force the locals into Illidan army.
