The Rusty Nail
Rules of Engagement: Brawling
This set of rules will serve as a guide for a pit fighting event at the Rusty Nail. Like actual pirate duels that a Quartermaster and strictly controlled oversee, fights at the Rusty Nail are governed by a Pit Master or staff for the chance of free booze and food. Like how duels upon a ship are frowned upon, so is fighting in the bar. First, it needs to be taken to the pits.
(Random roughnecks wanting to duke out their business can do what works for them. However, it won’t count as a Rusty Nail brawl. )
Setup
• An official Rusty Nail Pit Fight will consist of two combatants and Rusty Nail employee as a third party to act as ref and/or scorekeeper.
• The group will create a separate party to make all rolls visible to the participants.
• Combatants make a choice the ref can see of 3 or 5 hit points.
• Since these are for entertainment purposes and free drinks, Crit Success or Fails for extra hits are not approved.
The Turns
• At the start of combat, both parties will make an initiative roll to determine who the first attacker and the defender is. The higher number is the attacker.
• Once the initiative has been established, both parties will roll a d20. Highest roll wins and parties will post as appropriate.
• If the attacker’s roll is higher, they deal 1 HP damage to the Defender. If the Defender wins, they have blocked, dodged, or parried the blow.
• After the attack is concluded, the roles are switched.
• The attack and defense go back-and-forth until one party reaches 0 HP.
• Ties are re-rolled until a clear higher roll is established.
