I’m just gunna be a mythic + man this patch by the looks. Is there much point in playing a Bm monk if they’re so average compared to blood/prot warr? I enjoy monk but I mean if I’m just looking for high rating I may aswell just play a class that’s performing better?
Unless we scale good with gear? I haven’t played a Bm since early shadowlands. Idk aye
Play a class you enjoy. Blizzard is going to make adjustments to classes all expansion. Unless you plan on leveling up so tanks and rotating to the meta just play the ones you like.
I enjoy tanking so I have two tanks at next level so I can do more dungeons if I want. While I like GDruid I haven’t touched him lately because Brew is so much more fun to me.

Tanks get a pass unless they are dumpster tier. None of the tanks are that bad.
There are not enough tanks for people to be that picky until high keys.

Big difference between the good tanks and the bad tanks.
My warrior is 20 ilvl’s lower and takes so much less damage than my monk. Balancing is an issue

It will always be an issue. I’ve been playing nearly 20 years now - there’s always a best tank. Right now, yes, it’s Prot Warrior.
The question isn’t whether Prot is better than Brew, it’s whether Brew is viable and competitive or not. On the beta, the Tettles / Trell / Gingi crew did most of their high key testing with a Brewmaster. Weird, to use such a bad tank to test 13s and 14s, huh? Or maybe, Brew is absolutely fine, does great damage, has great mobility, RoP, Paralysis and Poison Cleansing are great for this season, leg sweep trivializes a Xalatath mechanic, stagger feels good for progression, and Brew isn’t as bad as everyone seems to think.
I think Brew is better than Prot Paladin. I think it’s about on par with Vengeance (chaos brand is better though). I think it will perform better than Blood DK at the higher levels where they’re threatened to be 1-2 shot. Guardian is all around better than Brew though (and easier) and Prot Warrior feels just flat out overpowered right now.
Given that, I’d give Brew a solid 7/10 for this Season. I won’t be going much past +10-12, just want my KSH and portals, and I’m not remotely worried about being viable for 3k rating. If you want to level all the tanks and strictly play what is overpowered every season, feel free. A TON of people do exactly that!
But I’m feeling alright with Brew.
P.S. Brew needs a huge buff to Expel Harm and healing in general.

This is my main issue with it. This is what feels the worst

For sure. Vivify is trucking now, so I’m getting by with that. But I agree, I want better self sustain. I feel like I take slightly more damage than a Guardian Druid with 1/3 of their self healing. That doesn’t seem particularly fair. Orbs need a huge buff. Honestly a 100% buff to healing orbs still wouldn’t feel that strong. I’d also like to see bigger celestial Brew shields. I can get around 2mil right now with our current stagger levels. That’s paltry. Not nearly enough.
But still, I handle most mob packs quite easily and I do about 1mil DPS in a big pull. Weapons of Order, Exploding Keg, Chi Burst, flurry strikes exploding etc. it feels strong. RoP has been invaluable so far. Ara-kora being able to RoP first boss adds, the alarm beetles in trash, last boss adds? Huge, dude. Paralysis skip in Tirna Scythe, excellent mobility for Dawnbreaker bullcrap or all of the Stonevault movement mechanics (literally three bosses are run fests).
Brew feels strong. Every 10 ilvls I feel better and better. Is Prot Warrior stronger? Absolutely. Their health bar doesn’t move as they also do big damage. But Brew is viable. Fun, even.

I’m with you!
Brew could use some self-healing buffs but overall I’m really enjoying the class and I play it way more than any other tank I have in my rotation. The utility is great–but like you said…Expel Harm is almost not worth pressing in any instance as it heals for a very small sliver of your health.
At least Vivify with the talents is doing much better!
I use trinkets to compensate, 1 of my trinkets gives me a 1.6 million shield when i taunt (cd 1 minute), yea we work a little harder to compete as brewmaster, i think thats why I like it better than any other tank, I dont get bored during fights only having to press 3 buttons. Its a class thats not for everyone thats for sure. we have the highest skill level of any tank for sure.
Brew feels pretty bad right now, but I am hoping it scales really well with gear as it normally does.
Right now out the gate brews are on the front page of io… way more than warriors “the best tank”
I think you will be ok.
There’s maybe a handful in the top 100 runs. Regardless, on the plus side for once, other tank classes besides VDH seem to exist. Though we’ll see how it looks later in the season once additional stratification occurs.
But it does look promising that you can play what you want and get KSH, at least. Sure are a lot of Augmentation evokers in that top 100 timed runs list, though…
The issue with brew is that it need to take way too much damage to get the wheels turning so the defensive mechanics start to work. They need to tweak the numbers so it can tank lower keys and make it more consistent throughout the entire game. Right now bre is good in heroic mythic raid and super high keys. All the other content brew is just a bad dps spec.
TBH they feel pretty bad at the moment and I hope their scaling for vers and mastery gets reworked a bit. Finished a little bit out of time Stonevault 4 key last night but it was a chore. All of us were over 600 and it was a chore. I was 604 and as far as brew goes i think i did about as well as i could have.
Literally the r1 players that are currently tanking 10+ keys, have 4 set and are 615+ ilvl
Go try tank a 4-8key with no tier, approx 605 ilvl and you aren’t in a group with the best players
It’s nearly like one of our main tank mechanics doesn’t work in low keys. Crazy that
For the average player in pugs or with friends that arent used to pushing high keys, i feel BRM will struggle until scaling is fixed along with Expel Harm and Celestial Brew.
Currently there are some tank busters in M+ that hit very hard and the defensive options and self sustain given to BrM feels a bit lackluster.
Of course, it all varies by confidence, knowledge, and skill level.
As a comparison, my 602 Bear feels FAR better and safer than my 599 BrM running the same keys.

All tanks are in the top 5 of tanking so pick what ever you enjoy the most.
My 600 prot warrior is invincible compared to me

I did at 602 in pugs and it was easy.
Ah but here’s the issue, you’re comparing arguably the strongest defensive tank to the squishest offensive tank.
While yeah, ideal world 20 IL makes up a difference, you’re comparing 2 drastically different worlds of theory.
