I doubt you’ll even remotely be convinced otherwise since most people driving down this line of thought are impossible to reach.
Here’s the thing. I’ve heard this take a ton of times, and people don’t really think about the time invested situation with this.
Someone who invested time to get ninety crests, a minimum of 8 runs at 9+, for the period of time we’re referring to, and upwards of 18 runs if everything goes south.
Each run is going to average 25-30 minutes. Let’s be generous and say they clear in 25 average, with no deaths, don’t spend an hour per key waiting in queue for people, and chain run these back to back.
The literal most generous time investment is 3 hours and 20 minutes of straight dungeon runs.
Add in the hours of waiting in queue, waiting on healers/tanks, failed keys, over time keys, the entire list of likely occurrences for the average player. That number can easily exceed 10 hours.
I’m sorry, but the leather shoulder piece I had crafted, with 10k tip, cost me all of 15-20k to craft.
Farming Bismuth for 30 minutes gets me half of that guaranteed. And this isn’t including anything I pick up to DE, sell, auction, you name it.
Anyone willing to spend 10+ hours in the hellscape that is “group finder” above a 5 at the moment is going to be patient enough to farm for less than an hour for the gold.
Or ask a guildie to spot them. Or socialize with people to get a good deal.
You can’t just “token buy” the crafted stuff as easy as people complain. There is a time investment. And those same “636” gear crests can be used on their 4/6 gear to pop it to 6/6 if they are impatient. And while you can buy mythic BoEs, it’s all of 2 slots. And the stats don’t work for every spec, so they aren’t even a valid option a large chunk of the time.
