I will address some of the common flawed retorts on the forums thus far:
Just go make friends/join a guild/discord
The whole purpose of the initial post described why that is not a solution. Re-read if needed. In THEORY it sounds all great, but in reality (where nothing in game is tied to it, e.g. no rewards), it does not work. The game should NOT require players to do “networking” outside of its game, else it’s entirely broken for a large segment of players.
Pugs are just like this
Again, that’s the whole point of the post. PUGs should NOT be an inconsistent gamble to the degree they are in this game for a solo player trying to progress their character. It should allow the player to play with similar geared, and skilled players.
The only people who complain about this are absolute hard carried individuals. It makes no sense to force high skilled players to play with low skilled ones or vise versa. It’s not an enjoyable experience for other parties, unless of course one of them is getting boosted for loot, io, etc.
It’s all to complicated and impossible, you don’t know what you’re taking about
Just because you may lack the domain knowledge or expertise, doesn’t mean that anything I’ve discussed above can not be implemented nor added. It’s very common industry knowledge across many games, and businesses.
I am not here to demonstrate on a technical level how an ELO system works, or data pruning works, or even basic algorithms. If you are uncertain, ask google and you’ll quickly notice that what I’ve written is not difficult.
These are not computations that are done by hand man, they are done through machine learning otherwise known as AI… Not only do you lack the knowledge to speak about it but you don’t even offer an argument other than to say you are wrong. Look up any differential equation and how they are solved. Complicated systems require machines. This is why systems like long term weather predictions have taken so long to model, the tech wasn’t there and even when it was we don’t have all the variables which skews results.
If you think its trivial than prove it and show us your legendary algorithm (not sure why it keeps auto correcting that.)
I laid out how… I mean I don’t want to be an expletive but if you can’t understand it from the post I’m not sure your up for the task of advising system designers. Its a standard logical siloque:
Premise 1: You are suggesting to use a algorithm that will score specific talents highly.
Premise 2: Players will play into talents that will score high
Conclusion: This means the meta will become stagnant.
An Ad-hom is an attack instead of an argument. I presented both (although even here it wasn’t an insult but a non-emotional estimation of your knowledge about math) so its not an Ad-hom.
And this right here is where I just shake my head and walk away… Your subjective experiences do not outweigh statistical probability…
Look you seem like a nice enough guy but you are clearly suffering from the Dunning–Kruger effect. Anyway I wish you the best and have a great Christmas day.
Making friends, joining a community, joining a guild is not networking outside of its game.
No one forces high skilled players to play with low skilled players. So it looks like your premise is flawed.
Your solution requires 100% of not just logging, but chat logging as well, and it would forbid using 3rd party communication. Like conversing in discord? Nope. Not allowed.
Whenever you get well thought out threads like this, the resident 30k post trolls just flock to it, it’s so weird. It’s almost like they crave and need attention.
They will even post at people who have them ignore, that’s the desperation we’re experiencing here.
I appreciate your contributions to this thread. Granted you didn’t add anything of value, you just wanted to complain and ignore/insult anyone that doesnt blindly agree.
But I get it. Living in an echo chamber is incredibly important.
(Why does this forum’s reply function sometimes overwrite an existing post?) This bug happens far too frequently.
Timing a key is a reward, no?
Again, that’s the whole point of the post. PUGs should NOT be an inconsistent gamble to the degree they are in this game for a solo player trying to progress their character. It should allow the player to play with similar geared, and skilled players.
Almost like, content is hard, and failure is possible. Try going down 5 levels, or even 7. High quality pixels still await you there.

So, you’ll be relocating to +2s?

Elo system wouldn’t work for m+ because there are many different variables, and sometimes it’s overlapping kicks, defensives, and cooldowns.
My favorite part is when I think I hit reply, but I start editing a post instead. Completely overwrite it. But the post I replied to is actually like 10 posts later.
Creates a fun loop of my responding before the person posted…who responded to a post that no longer exists.
I’m by no means even close to a genius but the second half is perhaps the first thing I agree with you in this entire thread. So props for that I guess although I’m not sure how its relevant to any argument we were having…
You know I just got over a two day migraine this morning that had me seeing auras and trowing up and I feel it starting to come back now. I think this needs to be my last reply for my own sake.
I’ll put you on ignore for today so I’m not tempted to respond but will remove it tomorrow.
Exactly my point. I laid out a foundation of things I personally found wrong with the system, provided anecdotal evidence, proposed some solutions and wanted to see how other’s experiences were.
Instead, certain members of the forums left irrelevant off-topic information, personal attacks, and when had enough of their trolling did the age old “im done with u bye!!!”
Topic is about making the PUG system easier, making grouping easier, making the game designed in a way that rewards forming mythic plus groups, having a better matchmaking platform instead of LFG so people of similar skill and behavior can play together.
Stick to the topic at hand, good feedback is important to create a good system.
