Mythic End-Bosses Expose Priest Dated Design

Three out of the four end-bosses in the past two years have introduced mechanics that Priest uniquely cannot contend with. It is understandable that there may be one situation in which Priest, or any other class, may not have the tools for a specific fight need. However, when only a single class is unable to deal with these mechanics it demonstrates how truly dated Priest is.

Mythic Raszageth
Raszageth required displacement mobility to survive the winds mechanic in Phase 1. The classes unable to meet this requirement without aid were

  • Priest
  • Paladin
  • Hunter

Mythic Fyrakk
Mythic Fyrakk needed knockbacks in order to position adds in Phase 2. Of the classes that were unable to deal with Raszageth, Hunter was now able to contribute, leaving the remaining classes without the necessary utility

  • Priest
  • Paladin

Mythic Ansurek
Now that mythic Ansurek has died, we see the strategy to kill this boss requires the ability to breaks roots very frequently. It so happens that Paladin’s Freedom satisfies this need perfectly leaving

  • Priest

Priest is outdated, and has been for years, but encounter and other class creep is exposing how truly outdated this class is. Often it feels like we are closer in design to that of Classic when every other class in the game has been modernized.

Hunters required skill to reverse-Disengage on Raz but it was doable. The class has always had a ton of mobility.

Rogues can knock stuff back?

hi explosive trap knocks things back yes, and now in TWW hunters get to choose between that or a knockup trap.

Edit: Idk why I read “hunter”

Rogues could survive winds on Raszageth and so met the mobility threshold for modern classes.

I think his point is that you’re ignoring other classes in certain fights to highlight your point.

Priest feel outdated in some ways, it’s true. But priest isn’t unique in sometimes having no way to contribute to a specific boss mechanic.

I’m not ignoring other classes. I am intentionally using each boss as a metric for modern classes, and if they meet that requirement they are ignored for remaining ones. Priest is the only class which fails to satisfy any requirement on the most modern of end-bosses.

Then why did you explicitly list priest and paladin as the sole classes that can’t knock stuff back?
How can rogue do so? And now that I thought of it, how can warrior?

Read the post again, perhaps in good faith this time.

It’s called skimming. What a strange way to present an argument.

Your argument is completely valid.

Edit*
I was being overly pedantic I think. I want priest fixed, but I worry about blizz overlooking our forums if there’s too much hyperbole.

I don’t understand why they don’t just make Phantasm remove roots at this point if they’re going to add a root removal requirement every raid tier.

It used to, it also used to suppress slows if they were reapplied and for a very brief period of time it prevented you from being targeted.

The argument is that only one class couldn’t meaningfully execute required mechanics on all 3 of the most recent end bosses.

Great post. :+1:

I find it stranger for someone to accuse others to doing exactly what they are doing themselves, then act the aggrieved victim, but hey, some people are like that.

It is getting really silly that priests just need help from the rest of the raid so often. And most of what we could do in raid to help OTHER people has been slowly getting removed.

I’m really not sure why the utility situation has been allowed to get to this point, because while it already seemed bad going into DF and just losing utility - it seemed REALLY obvious right when they were making the Mass Dispel/Mind Soothe nerfs we needed something back for it.

Just gonna count all the fights that I have gotten an evoker(or two) to essentially be my Rescue/Spatial Paradox crutch just so I can keep up with other healers:

  1. Ulgrax, both Rescue and Spatial Paradox for the succ on mythic
  2. Bloodbound Horror, Rescue after intermission so I can start healing asap and Spatial Paradox for tentacles
  3. Rasha’nan, Rescue to move me across the bridge and Spatial Paradox so I can still heal people while getting to the final destination.
  4. Silken Court, Rescue to move me out of vortex into slam, Spatial Paradox for doughnuts.
  5. Ansurek, Spatial Paradox during succ intermission(and a freedom from a paladin for roots).

That’s like 5 out of 8 fights this tier that I have to rely on another person or two just to feel like I can function.

And that’s also why I have said previously that Blizzard aggressively tunes encounters around the mobility and defensives of other specs, so priests are uniquely discriminated since they have zero tools to deal with any of them.

Yes, I’m being handheld by rescue’s to get around the map now on Mythic.

Yes, I skimmed, but that doesn’t change I find the way to represent the list strange.

If Fyrakk (Knockbacks) were listed first, then the list would be larger initially.
