In Wrath when they added Death Knights,at first all 3 specs could select talents to be able to tank.
Whole new class, 3 specs, “tank shortage” still there.

Please don’t speak for me, or everyone. Not everyone plays for the “pretty/appealing” aspect of things. My previous post, for example. Even if things are more sparkly, it’s the ROLE of tank and how the community acts to the ROLE of tank that put people off it. Respectfully, did you read my post?
That’s just like people that complain about the graphics on a game not being “pretty” enough. It’s not always about the graphics. Gameplay, imo, is paramount. Game could be the most beautiful game ever made, but if the gameplay is terrible, what’s the point? Minecraft, an example. Fantastic gameplay, graphics look severely outdated but that’s the game.
If all you’re looking for is visually appealing things in the world, you’re going to be disappointed.

Though if we wanna talk ignorance, femme is an aesthetic. It’s not exclusive to females.

It could be assumed because your original post said girlies. No where did you say femme.
Best day to you.
True! If im healer main i wont pick DPS just because they added another. Same goes for DPS players and Tanks.
Exactly. The purpose of the game is to kill things, people are going to pick whatever kills things the best. This was made abundantly clear at the start of lemix when there was a tank surplus because tanks were destroying things, the problem is not one of gameplay but of basic human psychology.
Making more tanks will not make people want to tank more. Thats only a short-term bandaid that’ll last maybe a week.
agreed. Like I said, the tank shortage is not about a lack of players or a lack of tank specs. Tanks stop showing up a while ago because of the way they were treated in dungeons. Whether it was the heroes attitude or just a basic lack of respect, they figure why bother. So until gamers start treating each other better in dungeons and raids they’re going to continue to experience a shortage of both tanks and healers who both are often abused and blamed for a lot of things.
I’ve been a tank for almost 19 years and most of my characters minus 2 are tanks. there is a reason I will only play with friends and guild mates. I choose not to put myself in the position of playing with Randos because I don’t need to be yelled at or vote kicked at the last boss for doing absolutely nothing wrong on a perfect run. I will take care of those who take care of me and everyone else can figure it out. ![]()
at the end of the day, it’s a game and people need to start treating each other better.
I’m starting to come to the conclusion that more specs is bad for the game.
More specs, more balance problems, more specs that people who want the best performance have to learn.
You got people that love to arbitrage an unbalanced game and going to great lengths for every little advantage over other players. And that’s ok within reason. Like if the imbalance is small, a few percent.
But if all the specs get you to 10-50% difference in performance ( we had a season where survival hunter was flat out doing double damage of other specs in M+ ) in performance every player that plays their spec because that’s the spec they like suffers.
All of GD repeating the same “more specs won’t mean more tanks bs” over and over again.
If I could tank on a rogue or warlock I’d have a lot more rogue and warlock alts.
Why? I hate questing.
I don’t mind occasionally dungeon spamming to level, to do timewalking etc. but I’m not gonna sit in a dps queue for that.
Same for my remix characters - mostly tanks.
Does that mean I’m gonna tank m+ and heroic raid? Nah it doesn’t. But I’d still be tanking more if the exclusively dps classes had a tank option.
And who knows? If it was substantially fun maybe I would do higher tier stuff.
I think warlocks should be able to ride on the back of a pitlord they summon to tank.
Not necessarily, more specs can offer more thematic variety that is sorely missing in some cases (priest light based dps spec please). It just doesn’t solve the problem of people not liking to tank.
Maybe because people have choice and preference.
So in a fit of stubbornness, they wont evenly distribute over the available options.
I don’t tank but 100% would if Shamans had a tank spec. So, yeah, available classes do matter.
You’d be surprised how many warlock tanks Season of discovery has.
M+ is where the shortage is.
You want more people playing tanks? Treat them better. More specs/classes will not create more tanks. The pool of people that are willing to play tanks is finite, and most of them are done putting up with pug crap.
It’s a player problem, not a game problem.
Players respond to changes in the game by changing their own behavior. The only way to increase participation in some way is for Blizzard to find a way to make their target behavior or content feel more fun, more rewarding, or more accessible. Leaving the nature of tanking unchanged and expecting a million players to each decide to take one for the team is not a real world solution.
This is the most common misconception I see. People think role is above class fantasy, which may be the case for them, but it’s not for everyone.
If there was no time investment required to level and gear up a class that can tank in addition to the class that you thematically or mechanically enjoy most, sure, you could make that argument.
But that’s not the case. If I could tank on the class I already enjoy and want to play most, I would absolutely tank more often than not. Unfortunately, tanking is something relegated to my alts.
Providing another option for people to tank is in no way going to decrease the amount of tanks, but it would allow those who, say, would be playing Shaman anyways, to tank.
I don’t understand the pushback against requests to provide more options. “I don’t want it so you can’t have it” is such an ignorant stance.
I’m gonna speak for the people who would love to play a thing that is not in the game lol. There’s no need to get mad about an aesthetic in tanking that is very obviously ABSENT in the tank roster but is PRESENT in dps.
Hope you step on a lego!
No, you will get some new tanks. Just adding a shaman tank or whatever will not change the tank shortage in any appreciable way however. Leveling/gearing up an alt is ridiculously fast and easy these days. People that want to tank already do.
The number of people holding out “i refuse to tank on anything but this one class i play” will not make any significant impact on the number of tanks in queues.
Having a mage tanking is goofy and not worth the payout of having .0004% more ppl try it. Healing as a rule is looked at as more feminine. While taking more masculine. Not because of the classes but because of the role.
Thalyssra literally does it in suramar, try again.
