Mystery Solved: More DPS Specs

In order to foster more players playing tanks in the game the game managers have decided to give us….yet another DPS (Devourer DH) spec

There’s

-Demon Hunters
-Death Knights
-Druids
-Monks
-Paladins
-Warriors

People don’t tank because of the lack of Shaman or Warlock tanks. People tank because it’s a leadership role. You have to take charge. People that want to tank will pick 1 of these classes. If they added another tank spec the people who already tank would move over to those specs. People who dps will do it for a minute because it’s new but quickly realize why they don’t want to tank.

I’ll just repeat what I always say in these threads; you could have 1000 Tank specs and 1000 Healer specs, and 1 DPS spec, and there would still be a tank and healer shortage.

Players themselves have to be the solution to the problem we’ve created.

If you want more tanks and don’t think we have enough, play a tank.

More tank specs don’t equal more tanks, you still need people to actually play them lol.

Make tanking and healing specs work like DF S3/S4. Remove the trinket/cantrip aura debuff to tanks/heals and it’s a start.

Tanks have been the least played role since Vanilla lol.

Absolutely I’m just saying it doesn’t feel great to have been gutted when there was nothing wrong.

There is a massive tank glut in content that ACTUALLY matters which is specifically non queue content and babymode single digit non gilded crest keys. Especially non queue raids where it’s all but impossible to find ANY group, pug or guild, actually waiting or recruiting for a tank.

Nobody cares your LFR or heroic dungeon queue is being held up because the collective left of bell curves doing that content are all too room temp IQ to hit the tank/heal role and coast along at it with the ultra low demands said content expects of those roles and the players behind them.

Blizzard can, and should, just stop pretending the trinity is needed and slap the next X bodies in the queue into a group and scale the content by those roles.

You could make 20 more tank specs and you’ll get a total of 3 more people playing tanks.

While I agree with this, I think there’s a not-insignificant amount of people who tank (or heal) for faster queues who then transition into being a consistent part of the tank/healer pool, because once you actually learn the role it’s typically a lot easier to do content than if you were a pure DPS.

That being said, I don’t expect a huge conversion rate from people starting to main Devourer and going Vengeance, mostly because those kind of people were already playing Havoc+Vengeance, or Ret+Prot, or Feral+Bear.

Warlocks or Mages or Rogues getting a Tank spec would have a greater impact on the Tank ecosystem than DH’s getting a new DPS spec.

My biggest problem with tanking is that the in-game adventure guide does a very poor job of explaining dungeons/boss fights/mechanics.

It also doesn’t have a route planner, or a quick overview of the dungeon.

Therefore it always takes me forever to get interested into tanking during M+ season. It’s alot easier to just run as dps or heals.

Obviously a me a problem, but if there was a route guide for mythic dungeons or Obvious in game ques for bosses I’d be more inclined to tank.

Alot of the dungeon encounters are so damned unintuitive.

That dungeon where you have to perform in a band, court of stars, or some fights where your’ just like (so , I just had to know this, and there was no way of actually figuring it out on the fly?) Or obvious high priority mobs.

Again maybe im bad. Im not the best M+ player, but do enough each season.

Wanna hear my theory? I think most DPS don’t tank because they don’t want the responsibility and they don’t want to be treated the way they treat tanks. There’s a lot more to it when you have to hold all of the attention during the fight and then move the fight in the right direction while also not standing in the bad stuff and not getting your healer and the other three people killed. And that’s to say nothing of raiding. not everybody can handle the pressure of being a tank or the skill necessary to do it, which is why DPS is heavily overloaded and tanks can get into something in three minutes where it takes a DPS 30 minutes.

That right there.

exactly. DPS go in there and do their own thing and have zero regard for the job the tank has to do. And then they want to either yell at the tank or blame the tank every time something goes wrong. And occasionally they will even kick the tank and just continue using DPS. Fortunately, I play with friends and Guild mates, so I don’t have to go through that level of punishment and I refuse to tank for anybody that’s not part of my guild or friends list. I tank for people that I respect and who respect me in return.

If Blizz wants more tanks they need to take responsibility away from tanks. I was working on triple threat the other day. I pulled one extra pack and got screamed at by a bunch of mid dps players. We still timed the key. New tanks run into something like that and go back to dps.

more passive heals all around. make it rain green from all directions.

I strongly disagree. The dps and healer specs have more feminine options. Tanks don’t get to be as sparkly or pretty as a mage, a priest, or a druid healer.

The closest thing the girlies have to that fantasy are paladins.

If they did a mage tank or something that tanked using spells you’d see more tanks.

It won’t fix the balance but it would help.

The problem is that a lot of mechanics require certain roles to be present or they just don’t work.

At no point in the history of wow has adding another tank spec to the game done anything to address the issue of having an insufficient number of tanks.
