My Honest Thoughts on Dungeon Finder

Please don’t upvote or downvote before reading. Carry on if you don’t have the patience or time.

I’m not some person who spams the forums for my own personal gain, I would just like to state how I feel after Wrath Classic has been out for quite a while now.

I love this game more than any other. I’ve played since original vanilla, and haven’t missed an expac since.

I love vanilla wow for its community and grind, and I love retail for its solo play and ease of entry.

I love WOTLK more than any expansion, but it’s become so hard to get involved outside of raids with my guild.

I’m a 5k GS Boomkin with all of Ulduar cleared.

I log in Thursday for 10m, and Friday for 25m, and have no purpose outside of that.

Contrary to popular belief, I would queue for random heroics ALL the time just for something to do. As I type this, I would queue just for fun.

But the fact that I have to search through LFG tool for 25 min, and then you don’t even know if its Hardmode dungeons or not is ridiculous.

And worst case scenario, if you didn’t want to add max level dungeon finder, I could accept that, even though its stupid, if you put in pre-80 dungeon finder. But we don’t even have that.

Leveling is my favorite aspect of the game, and if I want to level an alt I can’t even do dungeons anymore, because its faster to quest than spam LFG chat for an hour and then travel 30 min to a dungeon.

People love to level via dungeons, and you’re basically cutting them off from their favorite source of leveling.

I’m currently flying to Utgarde Pinacle on Retail WoW to farm the mount, instead of doing it on my wrath main, because it would take the entire night to find a group for it.

Please just get off your high horse and give us a dungeon finder tool, I would play this raid logging game much more if you did.

If you don’t, whatever, your choice, i’ll see you thursday for 2 hours.

Normal on a Sunday I would sit and play for several hours. Yesterday I logged in and did the daily H+, Emalon and OS and logged off from boredom.

No RDF and BG’s being the joke they are will be the end for me.

Damn, but what about that awesome community that RDF would kill? You know the one that lets you get groups almost instantly based on your reputation?

this RDF argument all day every day is very tiring. “I will play more if RDF was there” . I agree , I would play more wotlk if RDF was there . you know what I do ? I go to retail to spam dungeons for leveling and gearing. The question is when we decided as a classic community to pivot to the retail shenanigans and have RDF and just spam dungeons for everything, because if this is the deal you can just jump to retail, same price $15

As a DPS I could see you having an issue, if you weren’t proactivly building a group for yourself, but I think you’re making this out to be a bigger deal that it actually is.

Ulduar clear: EZ.
Working with your community to build a group to do something fun: needs nerf?

Do you just stare at it getting frustrated or ask people? Do you use the notes when you list?

Seems hyperbolic but w/e.

Who’s on a high horse? You’re too entitled to do anything but make a post on the forums about how you want to do less work, less communication with other humans, less community interaction, and Blizzard is the one on the high horse.

The queue times in RDF were like 40+ minutes for a dps. Why don’t you just list yourself in LFG and wait 20 minutes for an invite?

They don’t need to put effort into RDF since they already get money whether you raid log or play everyday. I raid log but would play the game more if RDF existed. I am not a fan of the new dungeon tool and would rather do something else with my time. I am not interested in the retail LFG tool mixed with an addon to help read LFG chat to find a group. Not even interested in doing it with my tank or my healer which I understand would get me a group fairly quickly, I am just not interested in not having RDF. Last time I joined a group from the LFG tool…the group formed and then fell apart because no one could be bothered to stop what they were doing and head to the stone…everyone put in 123 and waited.

Unless Blizzard intends to merge some of the smaller servers soon, you are going to see many more posts in favor of RDF.

I was one who said we didn’t need it and back then. The state of many servers now though…

On BsB 8 months ago you could find 45-50k postings in the auction house (alliance) now most days its around 21k. That is under half as many people posting, thus likely less than half as many playing. I can sit on any one of my 80’s and unless I am queued for the daily H+, I can sit for hours with no group as most of the server raid logs anymore.

On my 52 horde on Mankrik 110k to 120k auctions there. I can find a group in 30 mins or less at 3am even.

If they don’t merge some servers then we need a cross realm RDF. Otherwise we will watch as more bored people just quit playing.

The UI needs work, Blizzard fix this already! But you have a description that shows up if you hover your mouse over it. You should definitely start using it, as well as letting other people know it’s there.

You can’t find a group for Utgarde… on Pagle? Sorry, I’m on Pagle as well and this just hasn’t been my experience. For any given dungeon, when I look at the list, there’s a minimum of 10 people sitting there waiting to be invited. You might have to wait a bit for a tank or a healer, but as a druid you can do either of those as the situation demands.

Or you could just try to build a group to do it… people mount farm all the time. I just don’t think it’s that hard to get a group in WotLK right now if you’re on a populated server.

Either way this seems a bit pouty, to be honest. I mean shoot, I would farm this with you just for the fun of it, but you never asked.

You can start building a group, keep it listed, but carry on questing. There’s nothing stopping you. Traveling to a dungeon is a part of the Classic experience… WotLK is a cross-over period but it’s not there yet. If traveling to dungeons isn’t your cup of tea, retail solves this.

For me, I get that it’s easy to view travelling to a dungeon as a chore, I used to think this too… but things shifted for me in Classic 2019. Not sure why but they did. Now, I love it. It’s a part of the game for me. I’ll even do it so people in my group don’t have to (as long as someone else does), but I enjoy that travel time to chill and talk with my party.

If you don’t like that… I completely understand, but maybe Classic just isn’t the game for you. At least, not yet?

“get off your high horse and give us retail features in classic”

how about you go back to retail

It’s almost like the anti-RDF crowd lacked foresight, who would’ve thought.

“Laughs in H+”… he is literally asking for a original WoTLK feature to be added to, wait for it, WoTLK.

Unfortunately, this is is. If you’re not willing to quit playing over it, they feel like things are going good enough for you.

It was in wotlk you idiot…

I’m happy the game doesnt have the LFD/LFR tool retail has. That being said one of your points absolutely is correct. The heroic+ should be separate in the current LFG tool from regular heroics.

More like give us Wrath features in Wrath.
how about you go back to a classic server

They were too incompetent to code it in prior to launch and gave us the lie that they did it for muh community.

I mean I might play more alts, but when wrath brought in RDF I leveled a bunch of alts got them to 80, geared them out then never played them again.

If your only concern is wanting to spam Scarlet Monastery for 8 hours and nothing else…yes RDF would be a boon.

It won’t do much to increase the overall population of the game or make the old world lively again.

I see the rdf spam is still happening…
