My First Ever "Gold Swap" in World of Warcraft (WoW Market Discord)

Dont you think if blizzard would want the ability to transfer between version they wouldve done so. That should be your first clue that maybe this isnt a good idea. Your second clue would be why am i initiating this thru a non blizzard discord server hmm why does this seem fishy. Botom line you tried to work around blizzards standards and got caught with your hand in the cookie jar. Odds are this ban gona be upheald.

I’m gonna stop you there: I’ve seen a growing number of folks needing this very exact wording to know that this isn’t allowed, then turn around trying to use another term for it and say it’s allowed because it isn’t the other thing.

Gonna be frank, Blizzard only deals in the general, overall theme of stuff, not specific as folks can and will try to word lawyer around it.

We typed it out in game “I am trading 65k gold on Mankrik Horde for 330g on Wild Growth NA”. The person I traded with was highly reputable and a respected member of the Gold Swapping discord. I did everyyhting in my power (with the limited amount of experience I have with this kind of thing) to make sure everything was Kosher.

I have formed several raids and groups through the Wild Growth NA Discord server, and during Wrath, on the Mankrik Discord, I don’t see how using Discord as a tool to connect with other players is somehow “fishy”

Its the creating back room deals to transfer gold from retail to classic that screams fishy.

Literally the first result when you Google “can you trade gold between different versions of World of Warcraft” is this, directly from Blizzard: " Trading gold between WoW game versions is entirely at your own risk . It is not against the rules if no real money is involved."

I traded gold for gold.

“back room deals”… it’s a public Discord server that anyone can join and be a part of, just like all our respective Server Discords and Class Discords…

Amongst whom?
You are only seeing the front of the business, and, it IS a business. You really have two options, accept the judgement and do nothing, or accept it and let others know of the consequences of swaps with “highly reputable” brokers.

Maybe not on your end, but, as you can see, the same didn’t hold true for the other.

Yeah, about that, I’d go to that link rather then looking at the google page:

This is from a Green poster on the EU forums, nothing from Blizzard. Even the link said nothing about gold being fine.

Is it run by blizzard no is it supported by blizzard no so yes backroom deals. No matter how u spin it ur not gona justify it

Right there it says gold for gold is fine, and this is my first result on Google https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/29162

But why isn’t the solution banning them. Ban the cheaters!!

A green poster is another player, not Blizzard. Even then, it isn’t a blanket ‘any gold is fine’. You have no idea where their gold is from, it’d be best to not act like the other party gold is clean without issue.

But you didn’t trade “gold for gold”… You gave someone gold on 1 server, they gave you gold on another, there was no “trade” involved… at all. The fact that you have no idea where that gold came from may not be totally on you, but the fact that you helped to launder real money for a criminal enterprise IS on you, it was your decision to take a shortcut, and now you are paying for it.

They do, but by sanctioning those participating in the practice also helps to A: get the message across & B: tends to dry up the demand when word gets out.
I mean, are you going to do this again or participate in something unsupported in this manner? Probably not.

Lets see the mental gymnastics these guys with 12k posts on the customer service forums try to exercise to disprove the words directly from blizzard next.

@Zenjy, @Mortdred Preecher literally posted a link directly from blizzard. There is no green post in the link he posted. Its literally a blizzard CS article… C’mon bro.

Here I’ll repost if for you guys since you seem so content on trolling a person who may have legit been actioned accidently, or incorrectly.
The OG EU article he linked.

Here is the US based article so you guys can see it says the same thing.

I’ma tap outa this before the forum software tags me for spamming it, and besides, this is going in circles. GL with your appeal, I mean that, sincerely. But regardless of the outcome, in the future, Please be wary of ANYTHING that is done outside of the actual game (Discord, Reddit, ect…)

It’s because they’re all in the same Discord, where the bad actors tell them to get out of their suspensions by using a certain excuse.

It’s never going to work. It doesn’t work with botting programs, it doesn’t work with GDKP runs, and it’s not going to work with this.

See?

Yep. And you found out why it’s your own risk. What did you think was the risk you were taking?

Going to be very blunt here. If you participated, you are one of them. You’re lucky it was only a two-week suspension.

I risked trading my gold to someone and having them logout without trading me the agreed-upon amount back in Season of Discovery. That’s the risk I thought I was assuming, the risk that Blizzard’s own GM’s/CM’s posts have described as the risk.

The AH and the economy is 90% of the game for me, shame me for playing the game how I enjoy playing it, idc, it’s what fun for me… And part of the fun is being able to brag and gloat, and ‘flex’ my massive amount of gold in game… Have you ever heard of a single RMT cheater bragging, publicly, where GM’s can read it, about how much gold they have?

I agree with this, actually. If they are going to action people for accepting gold when they have no way of knowing whether it’s legit, they ought to make that more clear. Either totally disallow it, or put a notice somewhere warning people. I don’t do GDKP or this kind of gold trade, but I would have believed, like you, that my only risk was losing the gold. I’d encourage you to submit that feedback through the in game interface or by posting in an appropriate forum. Feedback isn’t taken from the Customer Support forum, so going in circles here doesn’t accomplish anything.

Hello Preecher,

I see you made a post here after responding in another from the SoD forum.

I’m gonna mention this to you because I think it needs to be said. This isn’t a debate. Blizz is not going to debate with you. You can make an appeal and another set of eyes will look at you suspension. That is it.

This thread will end up locked if you continue. We’ve seen it before here a number of times.

You can continue your points in the SoD forum with a new thread or an existing one. Blizz is looking at feedback there.

This isn’t a great analogy, because receiving stolen goods is still a felony.
