My experience teaching 3 new players end game

So are you saying others cant type, spell, or read?

Not everyone’s the same.

Thats true but everyone can ask questions. This isnt a discussion of equal outcomes as some players just arent skilled for things but a discussion for those who blame that lack of skill on the game rather then on themselves.
Edit: there was a resto druidnin LFR who asked how i was healing so much he turned out to be 60 yr old man. I tried to teach him but he coulsnt do the same thing but together we found a solution and used the double life bloom build which is good and he enjoys it. Now he sits happy just doing normals and heroic dungeons but he doesnt blame his lack of skill on the game only on himself

If it was then your friends would have needed ZERO help right? WoW is trash at teaching new players jack all, lets be real.

Its not tho. Just many are trash at the game and refuse to learn or use the resources given to them.

Your friends are most likely young enough to understand new games or are capable enough to not be bogged down by reading .

Congrats your friends are better than 90% of the forum trolls that dwell in here and cry that the game is too hard.

For every new player that makes it to KSM and M+ 10/ AOTC there’s thousands that don’t get past the leveling process without uninstalling. And if they do make it to max level and try the new expansion I’m willing to bet a lot stop playing during or after the campaign.

This is just a common example of human nature. It’s never-ending and always shows up but you know that already.

The game itself isn’t hard but it is convoluted which can translate into a kind of difficulty for some people.

Anyway, you do have a point but I’m not sure why you made it.
I think Blizzard already knows this stuff and ignores the goobers that make threads complaining the game is too hard.

The game is pretty accessible already. I’ve spent time to help out new people with some questions and a bit of tutorial in dungeons. But for the most part, the new players I’ve run into or had in my guild have only had two real complaints:

  1. Their collections are pretty sparse compared to the rest of us.
  2. The attitudes of players in dungeons.

You wouldnt call this game convoluted if you played any other MMO. Specially Asian ones… Some of those upgrading mechanics are ridiculous. Chance of failure in upgrading gear to start with. Or Ilvl incorporated content block until you reach that level. And such.

Well lets go through the numbers to see what the odds of this would be.

10% of players have a score of 2.7K
25% of players have a score of 2.4K

We can estimate running +10’s and timing them therefore would be around 18% of players. Now of course that number is based on characters who have an IO score so many of these are the same player with alts (for instance I have this toon and my pally above 2.5K) and it doesn’t include the many many players who don’t do M+ at all. A more reasonable number taking this into account would probably be under 9% as the top players normally have at least one alt they play. But to be unbiased lets look at both numbers.
Result:

  • The probability of three players all being in the top 18% of players is approximately 0.005832, or 0.5832%.
  • The probability of all three players being in the top 9% of players is approximately 0.000729, or 0.0729%.

I don’t know about you but that is pretty rare to me.

Fair enough but you are not anywhere near the norm. You are getting something out of taking the time to search for players who can play at this level. I would have several questions:

  • Why didn’t you take the other 3 people form that key and teach them?
  • How many people have you attempted to teach have you given up on or have simply backed out because its more than they want to do?
  • Why would you expect anyone else to do this if they can just pick up players who are already at this level of play without the need for investing time?
  • In these +10’s are the people up to par on dps, defensive use, interrupts, and utility or are they relying on others to do most of that?

Look I get teaching people can give you a great feeling. I also get the feeling of finding that diamond in the rough and see them out do what you could ever do (its a great feeling,) but at the same time realistically most people can not play at this level. This might be disabilities, it might be from anxiety, it might be just not caring about pushing or the rewards, or it could be that things just don’t click. The game needs to start teaching people when to interrupt or use a defensive (we’ve had addons for this for almost 2 decades now, there is no reason not to make it part of the base game.)

Hell I had a coworker who played for almost 3 weeks at max level without knowing how to even que for a M+ and only learned about it because I was talking about IO score and pushing this season.

And i met you most of those players treat the game as a single player game. They go in expecting to be handheld given the best loot and a super easy (this is according to most the new player im quitting posts) the only complaints i hear from new players is their lack of tmogs and confused on how to get crafted gear.

Idk I think most are definitely not interested in continuing to pay $15 a month just to have access to the game. I guess others are playing it that way but realizing it is a very group oriented scheduled type game at endgame if you’re not trying to pug everything.

I’m not comparing WoW to other games. It is convoluted at times, has too many currencies, etc…

Nothing game breaking but there are a few annoyances. Still, it is what it is.

Absolutely true, but it’s also a fact that WoW doesn’t do the greatest job of giving people those resources in game. Most of the effort required to get better at WoW require you to not be in the WoW window. Go visit wowhead, watch video guides, find weakauras, etc.

What do you suggest blizzard do about that exactly though. Optimising characters is a player phenomena.

Allot to read hard to qoute while using my phone so i apologize if i miss something. I do take random players. I bring up my 3 friends because it was my most recent. And not all players will make it but the point it everyone has equal chance if they use the resources given one being asking vet players questions. As a reply to someone else i helped a 60 yr old resto druid learn and while he cant do heroic he enjoys normal raids and heroic dungeons.

Could it be that you ran together as a 4 man group with only one pug or a guildie? I imagine the game is quite easy to pickup in a controlled social group. It’s the unforgiving attitude of average stranger that makes the game hard to pickup. If they keep playing themselves as a three person group, they’ll probably also be fine, especially if some of them play healer or tank. But I’m curious if they tried to play individually on the same level.

Warcraft is terrible at explaining things.

It’s why Wowhead exists.
