If he has any kind of cancer or some kind of health problem that requires tons of money and surgery, just put him
down after giving him as much time as possible.
Just speaking from experience as a pet owner that has seen pets go through cancer and it’s just very sad and can be a waste of a lot of money. This is after seeing people almost go bankrupt from vet bills. If you have pet insurance, than that’s great
Also dogs can be very dramatic. Could just be a splinter in their paw or a stomach ache
If the vet cannot identify the issue and your dog still isn’t eating I recommend buying some liquid formula dog food and feeding via a syringe to build up his strength.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…
If this is indeed your dog’s time, try and find solace in the fact that it isn’t abrupt and/or unexpected, that you kind of see it coming and get to say goodbye
I hope you have many more happy years with your friend, but if not, remember this beautiful poem when the time is right.
A Dog’s Last Will & Testament
Before humans die, they write their last will and testament, giving their home and all they have to those they leave behind. If, with my paws, I could do the same, this is what I’d ask…
To a poor and lonely stray, I’d give my happy home; my bowl and cozy bed, soft pillow and all my toys; the lap, which I loved so much; the hand that stroked my fur; and the sweet voice that spoke my name.
I’d will to the sad, scared, shelter dog the place I had in my human’s loving heart, of which there seemed no bounds.
So, when I die, please do not say, “I will never have a pet again, for the loss and the pain is more than I can stand.”
Instead, go find an unloved dog, one whose life has held no joy or hope, and give my place to him.
My kitty started acting that way when her kidneys started shutting down.
Sometimes the best thing you can do, is also the hardest thing to do.
Let them go so they are no longer in pain.
If you have to help him move on, do so. It is hard but it’s the kindest thing you can do for him at that point and that’s what friends, that’s what family does for one another.
I never call it “putting him/her down”. I call it what it is, setting them free.
It hurts but in the long run, you’ll have peace of mind knowing you did the right thing.
I’ll hope for the best til that day comes. Be well.
Regardless of past actions, his comment in this thread is quite awesome. Let’s not bring personal attacks into such an emotional and somber thread, hmm?
