I was joining a group for the portals and when I joined it on my Warlock, my game kept freezing (I’m assuming because of the amount of people) so I kept trying to log back in. When I finally got back in, the group was disbanded and the boss was dead, so I did my little sigh, got off and went to watch some tv.
I just got back on to my account having an action because of an LFG I “Posted” when I never once posted ANYTHING in LFG. Not once…I JOINED a group, game kept crashing, by the time I got back in, the group was empty, so I got back off and went to watch something…
My account has NEVER been penalized before…this is ridiculous…how can I fix this…I’ve never had to put in a ticket for anything like this…
I also want to add this is extremely upsetting…as I’ve never done anything to warrant an action towards my account…
Due to these player reports, we have silenced your World of Warcraft® account until 2024-03-18 23:50. For more information, read our Account Silence article.
As the owner of this account, you are responsible for all actions associated with it. We will only overturn penalties if there is evidence of a compromised account or similar extenuating circumstances.

This was the e-mail sent. I only found out because I wanted to try to find a raid to hop into to get done before reset.
It is highly highly unlikely that the LFG is the trigger. It takes time for a GM to look at reports and action an account. I don’t see how they could have worked this fast.
Have you used chat channels in the past few days to make comments? PvP chat seems to trip up people often. Make some possibly inappropriate comment in general or spam in trade chat?
That email does not tell you why you got Silenced. It was not for a group finder description if you never made one. There is nothing there anyone could report.
Penalties often happen well after the actual activity. Takes time for reports to filter up and a GM to apply an action (or dismiss the reports if it was not a violation).
A GM could certainly have made a mistake, but that is what appeals are for. Go ahead and file yours. There should have been a link in the email or the silence article.
I don’t see how that’s possible since I haven’t played in a couple of weeks now, and even before then I never said anything to anyone, especially in groups since I haven’t been in any.
No one has to believe me, I know for a fact I did nothing to cause this action. I know what happens on my account, I know who I talk to (I never speak in group chats since I’m always in discord with my groups), and I haven’t even been on to cause anything.
I’ve submitted an appeal, but this is insanely upsetting.
Completely understood that it is very upsetting! This forum serves as an Information Desk to help navigate the support system, explain policies, explain services, etc.
Hopefully you can at least take some comfort in knowing you are doing what you can through the right channels (appeal), and that if you have policy questions they can be answered here.
If Blue is around (Blizzard staff) they might even be able to tell you what the Silence was for.
Taking OP at face value for a moment, if I had to hazard a guess as to what might have happened, it is possible that:
OP joins group X.
OP DC’s as mentioned.
Event boss dies and everyone starts bailing.
Group automatically starts randomly assigning new group leads based on whoever is left in the group.
At some point during the OPs DC before they leave the group, they happen to have been made group lead.
During this time, a whole bunch of shard hoppers are attempting to join the same group since it is still listed and the OP hasn’t had a chance to delist it or leave the group because the event has no daily lockout. So they’re desperately trying to to get into the OPs shard as quickly as possible before the boss dies.
All those people unable to get an invite because OP is either DC or still trying to log in, get angry and mass report the group listing.
OP quickly hits the report cap that triggers the automated squelching system.
I only suggest this as a possible sequence of events as it is basically what happened when blizz first released the Fallen charger mount back in SL and everyone and their mother was shard hopping like it was 1999 before blizz changed the way the rare worked. A lot of people got silenced over that debacle.
Just wanted to update to say that the suspension was overturned. While I’m still quite upset over this, I’m happy that I’m not being punished for something I never did.
"I’m contacting you following a recent suspension applied to your account. I understand that this situation has been frustrating, especially if you didn’t create the group in question.
After reviewing the suspension of your account, I can confirm that I’ve found no evidence of wrongdoing: the suspension has therefore been overturned.
Please note that we will not be able to provide more information (such as actions that we may take on another player’s account). If you have any feedback on how the system works, and as always, please do send any suggestion you may have to our developers."
I also want to thank everyone, especially Kozzae for giving me the link to address this. I’ve never had to put in anything for a suspension so I felt lost. So thank you greatly.
