I don’t like healing ranged classes, there I said it. I’ve only been a preservation evoker main for about a month, and whenever I tell pugs to stand in front of my cones during mythic keys they PURPOSELY try to stand on the other side of the map.
I don’t even attempt keys higher than 14 because I have healer anxiety because of the ranged classes that have traumatized me over the last 4 weeks. A lot of the time I can manage it but for some pulls it can be a huge issue…
You know the trash after the frog boss and before the ice troll shaman in halls? the trash with the ice dragons ? they do A LOT of Aoe damage, last night the ranged kept running away from me, and they kept dying ( we didn’t wipe) but it was pretty stressful.
there needs to be more discussion in the mythic plus community about how to position yourself when playing with certain healers.
if you’re a dps class reading this STAND IN FRONT OF YOUR EVOKER HEALER PLEASE! this has been a public service announcement. if you’re in front of us we can cleave with VE+TA+DM, PLEASE!
I mean part of the issue is you’re playing in low keys where people don’t know this stuff and if they are actively avoiding standing by you because you asked just let them die. Not your problem at that point.
I’ve had other preservation evokers that do 20s tell me ranged dps still stand in Zimbabwe at higher lvls too.
I really think in general regardless of key lvl ranged players seem to lack awareness of how to play to their healers strengths.
evokers are cone healers, when people are in front of me my HPS is insane. It dramatically falls off though when people aren’t in front of me. When people are far i only have echo , reversion, and living flame to rely on. In some niche cases spirit bloom may be able to connect to multiple ranges that are far from me, but prob not, it may hit one person but not the other guy standing in hong kong.
I wish the blizz devs made educational videos on their youtube channel that spoke more about this.
DPS gonna do DPS things you can’t help that but it is better at higher keys. If they’re constantly standing out in Africa don’t be afraid to kidnap them with rescue also. They’ll eventually get the point or they will get annoyed. Echo is your best friend for the idiots that want to stand out there but again if they continue to not listen don’t stress yourself out and let them die. They’ll figure it out eventually or continue dying
I’ve also healed on other classes too, every class except priest . preservation to me is by far the most innovative and fun. I finally dropped my resto druid after over 15 years
Because it has crippling weaknesses that no other healer has to deal with. Super short range, reliance on cones, being worthless if your raid isn’t stacked, having to dash at people to heal them.
I wanted to gouge my eyes out playing that spec in mythic vault last tier, especially on Dathea.
some things about the spec are definitely questionable. I think living flame needs a buff in some way too, that way we can be a little more reliable outside of dream breath+ TA combos and echo/reversions.
I feel like overall it just feels more unique, that’s why I’ve enjoyed it.
Lets look at the new classes and expansions they came with. Death knights in wrath, demon hunters in legion and now evoker in dragon flight . This explains lots.
I just sucked it up and didn’t use half my kit on heroic Dathea(my group wasn’t the best so we stuck to heroic). The static and “dont stack” mechanics are the worst.
With most of the player base being casual players why do fundamentals have to change just because you are an evoker healer?
They should just 40 yd range the thing for them like every other healer or else it will lower the casual player base for evoker healers. Which is not fun :(.
As well as casual players may at that point just not invite evoker healers.
Part of the deal with prevoker is that they gave you a bunch of insane big heals that really don’t seem fair in comparison to other heals, so they gimped your range to add some challenge other healers don’t have to deal with. I struggled at first last season dealing with the range and hunters obsession with Narnia based DPS. Once I realized how powerful echo truly was, it became a cakewalk. I generally don’t even use temporal anomaly in 5 man because of its directional nature, just focus on keeping echo on as many targets as possible and then anything you do is going to replicate. Echo+VE combos, echo reversion combos, the echo mini game is the way in mythics. It’s a wildly unique play style but once you master it, you’ll forget you even have mana as a resource. And for the most part ranged can set up shop in Narnia the entire time and you just bounce around between them keeping echo up. Good times!
