I’d change the name of a character on my WoW account to a name in use by a max-level character on my brother’s account. My understanding is that, because the accounts are associated with different bnet accounts, it’s not as simple as him deleting the character and me picking up the name. Anyone have any experience with this? What’s the most efficient way to move the character name to my account? Thanks!
If he deletes the character, it’ll save the name to his battle.net account for 30 days. It then becomes first-come, first-served for getting it.
That’s the fastest way though. This also assumes he doesn’t want to later undelete the character.
Thanks! Maybe a bit too in the weeds, but what if he moved the name to a lower-level toon and then deleted that toon? Is it still locked?
The character would need to be below level 30 (1-29) and even then I can’t guarantee that there wouldn’t be a delay due to the paid ne change. I believe the paid name change would still locked the name to the account, but for 90 days.
I could be wrong on that, but I don’t think it would bypass the name lock from a paid name change.
Correct.
The name would be held by the Battle.net account for 30 days if the character was level 30+ and was deleted or otherwise transferred off of the realm.
Purchases have their own rules associated with them, which is usually 90 days. I’m afraid there isn’t a quick method to switch them, Gisei, sorry.
Thanks, both!
Hrm… would deleting the high level character with the desired name, creating a new character with that same name, then immediately deleting that new character free up the name for other people to use?
Shouldn’t no. The name would still be held by the level 30+ deletion for the 30 days as the name itself is added to a reserved list specific to the account.
