I got Invincible during that magical time when you could cheese save a lockout.
I’m so glad I did before they fixed that, because running the whole thing every time sounds like my personal nightmare.

The thought of going into ICC for anything nowadays makes me a little nauseous. I still need to finish Shadowmourne, but I don’t think my soul can take it.
15 years trying to get the baron’s charger…
I mean, It’s a MYTH! MYYYTTTHHHH!!!
Instead of saying “you have a 99% chance to have seen a drop after x number of attempts” I like to phrase it in a different way.
For a hypothetical, large population of mount farmers, 99% of them will have seen a drop by X number of attempts.
You have no idea how many attempts you’ll need but you are more likely to be a part of the 99% of people who takes X attempts or less instead of the 1% who take more.
There have been people who have been farming the love rocket with an army of alts since it was added to the game back in 2009 and they still don’t have it. Hell some people are farming transmog items that came out in MoP everyday and still don’t have it. So you can farm anything and it can take anywhere between 1 run to 4 million runs. Random is random.
I got my Charger while casually levelling an alt back in like Legion on my last dungeon of the night before going to bed and I KID YOU NOT MY ENTIRE COMPUTER CRASHED RIGHT AS WE KILLED RIVENDARE BEFORE I COULD LOOT and I scrambled to reconnect in case the game decided to not credit the kill to me and I open the corpse and I’m like “huh there seems to be more drop slots here than I reme… NO F-IN WAY”
Honestly one of the hypest nights I remember having in the game esp bc it happened naturally without me expecting it and after a crash no less. Needless to say, I was not able to fall asleep for several hours due to the adrenaline after that lmao
Wait, doesn’t everyone get this on their first run? I pretty sure I got this first time through.
I never farm for mounts because the second I want it RNGesys sees my desire and ensures I never get it.
As many as it takes.
I don’t use that addon that keeps track so these are educated guesses:
ashes - 100 or so tries
clutch of ha-li - 40 or so
fallen charger - 3rd time he ran past me unexpectedly (was so mad first 2 times)
Flametalon of Alysrazor 2nd try
Smoldering Egg of Millagazor - still dont have, hundreds of tries (Alysrazor cursed me)
headless horseman - 3rd try
sha of anger mount - 300 or so, got it after they supposedly lowered drop rate after DF launch bug
Invincible - 3rd try, super lucky, didn’t know it was rare, I thought it was horse everyone gets, mistakenly thought the rare drop was icebound frostbrood vanquisher. Prolly drank too much back then. I was just there to make gold.
junkheap drifter - a few hundred
Rusty Mechanocrawler - (arachnoid harvester) 400 at least
mail muncher - 12 runs or so, trying to hit every mailbox
mimiron’s head - 70 or so runs
Mollie - 2nd try, was just passing through and saw the guy who drops him and remembered what he drops.
Rivendare’s Deathcharger - you never forget your first- 60 or so
Silent Glider (Soundless) - 300 or so, I was in raid party heading to Eternal Palace and looked down and saw soundless fight in progress, so I flew down to join, nobody in raid group said a word when it dropped, I know they saw the loot text
T.L.P.D. - was just flying past, if not for the silver icon thingie identifying it as a rare mob, I would have kept on going.
Xinlao - 150 or so, and he’s only up during 1 particular Nzoth assault, and its sooo ugly.
Malevolent Drone (corpse eater) 300 or so… I thought he didn’t exist, also up during 1 particular Nzoth assault.
Galleon - 100ish
Solar Spirehawk - 150 or so, also done after supposed lowered drop rate.
I still need Cobalt Primordial Direhorn and Nalik mount, but I’m getting too lazy recently to go to where they are or drag alts to them and camp there.
Blazing Drake - the worst, 700? So many alts. Finally on July 2nd, 2023 it dropped. Was so happy, not because I got mount and Awake The Drakes achieve, but because I would never have to go to Dragon Soul ever again.
I can still hear his words in my head “Hah! I had not realized you fools were still there” and “It’s good to see you again, Alexstrasza.” among others.
Wowhead has Ashes of Al’ar at about a 1.7% drop chance. That does NOT mean that it’s a guaranteed drop after 59 attempts (1.7 x 59 = 100.3). The statistical probability that you’ll see it does go up, but never reaches 1.
Chance (noted by a %) ≠= Statistical Probability (a number between 0 and 1)
A lot of people get chance and probability confused. The only time a probability reaches 1 is if there is no other outcome for that activity. So, purchasing a Windrider mount from the vendor in Dalaran would have a probability of 1 as long as you click on the mount and have the gold, but purchasing a Headless Horseman’s mount from the same vendor would have a probability of 0.
TLDR: There is no set amount of tries for a mount to be guaranteed to drop. You can only estimate that after 59 attempts, you’re more likely to see it, though I wouldn’t hold out hope if you don’t. Some people haven’t seen it drop even after 200 runs.
Anywhere between 1 run for a drop to happen, and over 5000 runs and never see it drop. It’s completely random.
I’ve been playing since vanilla beta.
I have yet to see the mount from strathholme.
I got it on my 1st run… then gave it to the tank who had done 400+ runs. When I decided to farm for it, I got in a couple of weeks.
I do it for the cheevos and quests tied to it. If I get all the cheevos and no mount dropped? Then I don’t even bother doing it anymore.
I’ll make exception for “Easy” farms like the Blue dragons as Malygos can be killed in like a few minutes tops and he’s the only boss in his raid.
the answer is: a lot.
rng is rng. sometimes you get a mount on the first shot, somthing on the 100+, sometimes never
you also gatta remember some mounts drop chance are lower/high then others. some are 100%, some are around the 5-10%, some are 1% and others are even lower
for me. ill farm a mount/transmog untill it drops if the way to farm it isnt braindead boring (like the old soo way, that raid way way to long and buggy). each reset day ill do my route of farming and a few characters
also, theres some addons that can help you with farming, like HandyNotes, Rarity and others. maybe get them if you really wanna get into farming stuff
or it could never drop for you
nocks an arrow
It’s completely random tbh. For example:
I got the blue proto-drake from utgarde pinnacle in 10 attempts
I got the azure drake from malygos in 3 attempts
I got the thundering onyx cloud serpent from Houlon to drop for me 3 different times during 5.4 while some of my friends have yet to see it drop to this day.
It took me 8 years of trying off and on casually to finally get the ashes of a’lar to drop and when it finally dropped, it was only 2 weeks before DF launched.
