You still have to EARN it… sigh
“Azure bug bad”
In addition to Raiyyn’s dismantling of your fallacious argument; this is also assuming that at no point you’ll be compelled to use a different equipment slot. So, instead of pulling the strider out to go past that river, you have to go back to Pandaria and buy another pair of striding shoes, which is objectively, much more inconvenient than just pulling the strider out.
So, to use your quote against you…
While that is the majority of recent posts, the ones pre-300 had some.
Luckily they are at a significant discount and BoA so you’ll only have to make one trip. Plus, if it’s also not limited 1 in the bags, you can stock up.
I mentioned something like that in an earlier post. If the Strider retained it’s ability, you would technically have two equipments active at once.
Thing is, there would still be this “issue” with the striders if they were left alone. They would remain the go-to for crossing water as that would leave the equipment slot open for any other option.
Another player defending a system they do not even understand.
You do not get to choose which equipment you can use on which mount.
A character can only use one equipment at a time and this will affect all that character’s mounts. If you want a change you spend whatever the crafter demands and destroy the old equipment by applying the new one over it in the equipment slot in your journal.
Areas will by designed to need different equipment used, and players will be spending gold so fast they’ll be buying tokens each week to cover it -
at least that’s what Blizzard is hoping for.
Luckily they are at a significant discount
10g discount. To purchase an inferior token to replace what we already spent thousands and a lot of time on.
They would remain the go-to for crossing water as that would leave the equipment slot open for any other option.
Or they could have just not made water-walking an equipment thing to begin with. If it’s exclusive to the strider, shaman and DKs, that’s fine. You’re not taking anything away to justify a stupid system.
hey, at least the pirate ship mount will be able to float.
Bingo!
10/chars
You get a free one on all your alts if you have the mount. Then you can buy more for next to nothing from the anglers.
Free one on your characters with the rep*
Also: I already had a free one.
You have to “buy” something you’ve already had… That’s the issue.
Luckily they are at a significant discount and BoA so you’ll only have to make one trip. Plus, if it’s also not limited 1 in the bags, you can stock up.
Each character needs its own equipment. The BoA equipment an be sent to anyone on your account, just like a guild tabard, but only affects the mounts of the character using it. You need a separate equipment for each alt.
Floatie shoes are unique; you can only carry one in your bag at a time. For players such as myself with 100 toons, that’s a lot of trips made and a lot of shoes bought.

Not true. It would be nice if people would know what they are talking about before replying.
You get ONE free equipment for every character that has the required rep. Considering that mounts were account wide at that point, there was no need to grind the rep on more than 1 character so most of everyone is looking at only ONE free piece.
Next, the last we know is they were selling for 40g each at the vendor if you have the rep. So for people that have a lot of alts, they will have to dig through all of their characters to see which one got the rep, travel out to the vendor and purchase what they already had before for all of their alts and mail them off individually. And considering that they are character specific, you will either have to purchase several for each character if they ever need to switch or you will need to return in the future. The latter being subject to their design changes in the future(most likely the point along with locking you into their crappy pathing designs).
Nope. You get them on all your alts above level 100. That’s how it worked on the PTR
The game sent them to my shaman in the PTR even though my shaman never even touched anglers.
You have to “buy” something you’ve already had… That’s the issue.
You bought the mount. You still have the mount. You don’t have to buy the mount again. The mount just got nerfed is all.

They bought it to perform a specific function that it no longer can perform by itself. It has worked that way for almost a decade and now it’s a problem? An exemption from the equipment system is all it needs.
Luckily they are at a significant discount and BoA so you’ll only have to make one trip. Plus, if it’s also not limited 1 in the bags, you can stock up.
It is limited 1 at a time in your bags. They are “unique” so you can only carry one. IIRC there is a mailbox there, but I will still have to buy one, mail one, buy one, mail one, buy one, mail one…and if I forget an alt, I will have to make another (or several) trips. And every time I make a new alt I will have to make a trip.
Luckily they are at a significant discount
Umm… No. A “significant discount” would be “free for as many as I need” considering I’ve had the ability on every toon for the past 6 or so years and already paid for it. I have to spend nearly 1k gold to equip all of my current characters, which is the same as I spent on the Water Strider to begin with, so I’m paying again for something I purchased years ago “because reasons”.
No discount there, luckily or otherwise.
If the Strider retained it’s ability, you would technically have two equipments active at once.
And? DKs and Shaman “technically” have 2 equipment pieces active at once. And they don’t even have to change mounts…they have it on every mount. As does anyone who has Elixirs in their bags.
So what’s your point?
Thing is, there would still be this “issue” with the striders if they were left alone. They would remain the go-to for crossing water as that would leave the equipment slot open for any other option.
Except that this really isn’t an issue.
No one has ever had to do that because of class abilities and we’ve always had the Elixir of WW, which was the “go to” before the Striders were a thing.
Blizzard has had many opportunities to have more than just the Striders “walk on water”… that boat mount comes to mind specifically.
Had Blizzard not turned flight into an issue, no one would have cared one way or another. And since they are too stubborn to change their stance on that one, they have to continue to “fix” things that were never actually broken.
Only half of the playerbase even has a Strider, so it’s not actually the “go to” for nearly as many players as is claimed and never has been.
I really hate to quote a phrase I dislike so much as even thinking about it puts a nasty taste in my mount and makes my fingers hurt from thinking of typing it, but…
“It was never an issue until Blizzard made it an issue”.
An exemption from the equipment system is all it needs.
Or make every mount have it’s own equipment slot.
I like the idea of custom mounts for custom purposes.
Flying mobs can and do daze dismount you. You at least need the anti-daze one with flying.
water strider is ugly and is not something I will ever try and “earn”.
But, I don’t understand why anyone would really care if someone other than themselves has the ability to ride over water or not.
