Mount equipment *sigh*

I think this would have been more appealing to everyone except the devs, who are always going on about “meaningful” choices. The result always seems to end up being either there’s only one viable option, or all the options suck.

No. We merely want the strider to be left alone, and exempt from other equipment. Not a second ability.

Yeah, every time a communication from Blizzard includes the term “meaningful choices,” we know what’s coming.

I personally just want to keep my striders they way they were. I don’t give a fig about mount equipment. If keeping my striders intact meant I could use no equipment on any mount, I’d take that option in a heartbeat.

And the folks I’ve seen who are mad about the striders just want them exempted from equipment like the sky golem. Yes, they could then use different equipment on other mounts, but they would have to dismount and switch to use the strider to cross water, so it really isn’t an advantage.

Future expansions ring a bell? Also, things you earn through rep should never be taken away. It’s not a good look!

I can’t wait until the equipment receives the, “Only works in x” treatment. It will be the bone they throw you as they hold future pathfinders hostage.

Since WoD this whole dev team’s philosophy is to take it away, strip it down, and give it back to you at the cost of something else with a, “you’re welcome, pleb!”

You, as a Paladin, already have the speed boost, the ability to bubble out of falling damage AND tank spec or, almost certainly, gear with “Resounding Protection” on it.

Water Walking equipment is the BiS item for Paladins, and only paladins.

DK’s BiS: Safe Fall or No-Daze.

Mag’har’s BiS, depends on class, but probably No-Daze.

Everyone else? Best in Slot is SPEED.

So, enjoy your water walking equipment… as the only class that can without paying for it with a movement penalty.

Hopefully someone explained that the item will get mailed directly to you on patch day, if you already have a water walking mount? It’s hard to scroll through 200+ replies to see that.

“Most?” Not hardly. There aren’t even “some” … I haven’t even seen ‘a few’ asking for that. Pretty sure I haven’t even seen ONE person asking for that.

MOST people are saying “make striders exempt from mount equipment just like the sky golems”.

Over and over and OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

Ah. Dont usually play BM so that wont work. Oh well.

If this were the goal, then they would have done what GW2 did: create specialized mounts for different things, either via per-mount equipment slots or mount families with inherent traits.

That they went with “one equipment slot for all mounts”, and based those abilities on already existing consumables, tells us they’re not trying to add a cool mechanic to change how we interact with the game world. Mount equipment is an easily-removed system for pruning mount utility, under the guise of “player choice”.

While i admittedly didn’t know about that, and thanks for letting me know, it still requires me to step foot to do WoD content.

Hopefully, someone explained that the free item is only mailed to characters over 100. It also may only be mailed to the character who actually has the Anglers rep on live; we won’t know that part until the patch hits, because the devs have never clarified whether mailing it to all characters over 100 on the ptr was for testing purposes or not.

I haven’t been clear on if characters below 100 can use equipment. I believe they can, assuming you have a character 100 or over. Is this correct? And does anyone know if it opens equipment on all b-net linked WoW accounts, or do I need to have a level 100 on my second account as well?

Yes, as far as I’m aware, characters under 100 can use equipment as long as you have an over-100 character to unlock the slot. At least I was able to mail water walking shoes to my level 20 lightforged priest on the ptr and equip it without difficulties.

That said, I’m always wary of assuming the PTR will go live as-is, since the mythic+ chest debacle at the start of the expac, where everyone was assuming azerite gear and normal gear would both be in the chest because that’s what we tested, only to learn we were basing our assumptions on ease of gearing on a false premise. (Same reason I’m not assuming the mount shoes from the Anglers will cost 40g once they hit live; they may just be cheap for testing purposes.)

I can see your point. Having access to more than one equipment mount perk without burning another one to swap out. Making striders exempt would surely be an unfair advantage over players who didn’t want to or couldn’t do the rep required to get the striders. This change basically nulifies the choices that players made to earn the rep to access the water striders, and as an added bonus, places a price tag on regaining what was lost. The thing is, it’s those choices made that keeps players logged into the game. Just like the rep grind for flying. If you want it, you gotta do the content to get it thanks to pathfinder. But pathfinder is free, and it opens up flying to all of your flight qualified alts. Mount equipment slot gets opened up for alts, but you have to pay to regain water walking.

you can blame all the people who whined about their immersion

It’s not the fault of the players. This is a design choice, not a concession.

What I think a lot of people are missing is what can happen if the Strider kept it’s ability. Not just that, but you have the waterwalking shoes at a discount, given crafted isn’t cheaper, because you did the rep. Even at a 1 carry capacity.

Scenario: Strider keeps water walking, but is exempt from equipment. Now you can both walk on water and not be dazed with a simple mount switch at water. And are ready for the next zone with lots of water without losing daze everywhere else.

Strider losing it’s water walking doesn’t nullify the hours I spent grinding rep. Cheaper equipment overall. The equipment however does allow me to use whichever ground mount I want and still be able to walk accross the water.

Hell, if anything, the strider nullified the hours grinding for my raft that just isn’t as convenient.

Ok, let’s apply the same logic to the Sky Golem:

Scenario: Sky Golem keeps its mounted herbing skill, but is exempt from equipment. Now you can pick herbs without dismounting/remounting, and you can walk on water with a simple mount switch at water.

That sounds pretty similar, but the devs (and some players) are just fine with that. Do you see the mismatch there?
