Mount equipment *sigh*

Mounts are about travel speed. That is their #1 purpose.

Mount equipment is adding [Light-step Hoofplates] which give a 20% mounted movement speed bonus. There’s no consumable alternative that works in BFA. (This mount equipment only 10% if you have guildperk:mount-up, or 0% if you’re dk, paladin or mag’har).

I will have speed equipped… and no mounts with water walking.

And Blizzard KNOWS that most of us will end up that way.

This is all about killing the functionality of the water striders… and letting people who worry about cosmetics more than function have fun with water walking. Enjoy if that’s you… it’s not me.

I’m not looking forward to having to travel all the way down to the anglers wharf, spend my already dwindling supply of money, and find a mailbox to seperately send each of my stable of alts a basic QoL feature that they already had literally the day before.

It’s just nonsensical busywork to make my /time played increase by that little bit more. Same as the portal changes.

I havent decided if I will use the water walking equipment to retain some semblance what I already have or just toss it in the bin and not use equipment at all.

Watch, in 9.1, they will give us the system what they should’ve given us, individual socketing each mount and call it an upgrade. And while i’m being hyperbolic now, i wouldn’t put it past Blizzard if they actually do just that.

^ So much this.

Moving forward, I’m going to play this DK, so I have water walking, faster riding, and anti-daze built in. And not use equipment at all.

And I’m going to use the Water Strider exclusively.

BFA Pathfinder 2 doesn’t fix this.

Tol Dagor: everyone uses water striders to go around unnecessary trash on the beach.

Levelling players: Eye of Azshara, water walking mount is very handy, especially for short races that flub in shallow puddles.

Timeless Isle, Isle of Giants, Thunder Isle, Tol Barad Peninsula…

The many water obstacles in Draenor / Broken Isles if someone doesn’t already have pathfinder for those expansions.

There’s still a lot of content that benefits from easy access to a water strider… depending on what someone does.

BFA Pathfinder 2 doesn’t fix any of that.

Sadly as a hunter I wont have any of that, but I can use bardings and pots until they make them not work.

Absolutely am serious, I am gaining water walking on all my mounts so I can now use the one I like, not the strider.

I earned my strider, I did it 7 years ago, I got plenty of reward for doing it. (And remember that “it” wasn’t exactly hard - just time consuming)… So I was rewarded.

Now, I get a new reward - I get water walking on ALL mounts… FREE. I don’t have to do 3 months of a silly grind? Seriously? That’s just awesome. I’m thrilled.

In wow history you can name a zillion things I put “work” into - remember attunements? Rep grinds for stuff that is no longer useful? PvP gear from prior seasons? It’s like… most of the game… why are people surprised?

I’d make a different argument: stuff from prior xpacs that still provide benefit are actually broken. Doing halfhill to make Sky Golems - that really shouldn’t be in the game now, imo. They better open up a 2nd mount equip slot and offer profession stuff… I can’t wait for that to happen now.

Uh, pretty sure you can go back to the rep guy and get another free one and that it’s BoA so you will get free water walking on all your toons, all your mounts, always. The rep grind will deliver more than it used to.

The thing is…

Blizzard could have created a win/win scenario here, by just exempting the water striders from mount equipment. Everyone gets to walk on water the way they want, and no one gets hurt.

But they didn’t – they have wanted to eradicate the striders, which they created, for years now. So it’s a win/lose: players with no striders win, and players with striders lose. And they are ticking a lot of people off in the process.

And a few players, who will remain nameless, get to gloat about it, because evidently, they enjoy seeing other people lose something they care about.

I prefer win/win solutions.

I think the plan is to strip the water strider of it’s water walking ability and then later remove mount equipment as “unnecessary” without putting the water strider’s ability back. Because I think this is a round about plan to get rid of it.

Why do I think this? Because they have wanted to get rid of the water strider in the past and it would have been super easy to add other mounts into the game which had other special abilities or mechanics if they wanted to do that, but this is the only way they can get rid of the water walking mount entirely later (by removing the mount equipment slot the same way they remove a lot of systems in the game they decide they don’t like).

Are they removing the WW ability from the little water strider bug you can tame in the Jade Forest that you can walk on water by foot as well as mounted??

No idea. Are they a BM only pet? Last time I tried to use the pet the WWing didnt work so I ditched that idea and never looked back.

Yeah, gotta be BM for it as they are considered an exotic. Well, for now that still works, for BM only however.

They are BM only. I have not read anything yet about anyone testing that function on the PTR, but we’ll find out in a few days.

Once the “Strider Doomsday Patch” goes live, I’ll pull that pet out on my BM hunter and try it out. I’ll report back here.

Nothing special about the water strider, it’s a ugly bug. Thank you Blizzard for finally letting me WW with my 2-person mounts so my wife and me don’t have to get on our striders anymore to cross water

I’m going to switch to my strider every time I have to cross water just in case there’s someone watching who will be triggered if I do so.

And if they had done the smart thing – exempting striders from mount equipment and leaving their special ability intact – you would still have been able to do that. And everyone would have been happy.

But that’s not how they roll, apparently.

I’m riding mine all the time (except for flying and repair), for the same reason.

The mount equipment as presented is bad. It is as boring as everything else this expansion and does not go far enough. What it really needed was a gathering / interact equip and more interesting movement related features like high jump and rocket boots for targeting an area and climbing up mountains…

Also per mount instead of journal wide would have been much more appealing to me.

I’ve had stacks of ww potions on multiple toons for years. This was never a problem for me.

Seems the people complaining about this change want to have their cake and eat it too. They want the ability to water walk with their strider AND and add a mount equipment item to get a SECOND ability . Most want water walking and no-daze. That way on each expansion they can zoom through the areas when questing without worry of dismount or water. They want most of the benefits of flying without actually flying.
