Mount Equipment and the Water Strider

Actually it does not. I and others have tested the boots on the PTR and if you jump down into the water and take damage water walking will break (does not on the strider as it was built so that this would not happen). There are also issues with mounting in water using the boots, but I won’t get into that.

How is this a rhetorical leap? If you have been playing this game for any length of time then you would know that it is very common for blizzard to gray/limit items within the game because they want to limit the ability for players to use those items, or to just remove them completely.

Mount equipment gives Blizzard the ability to add, remove or limit these abilities.

Yes, it is a bother. I should not have to go back into old content in order to get something that I have already earned.

What are you talking about? During Timewalking week you can farm tokens in hours and buy the water strider. If you want to complain about that nonsense, the time was when they allowed tokens to be farmed in timewalking. This argument is terrible.

The whole purpose of this is so we see some mount diversity, which I 100% support as someone with the strider for years. The whining about this is pathetic. Of all the issues in the game - this is so incredibly small, and actually benefits players!

And then I change my equipment. Oh whoops, I lost water walking. Now I have to go ALL the way back to the vendor in Pandaria (and bear in mind the portal is now even further away - thanks for that) to buy another WW equipment.

There is no reason not to leave the stride alone. It was no mere hand out and should not be treated as one now after so many people worked hard to get it. Having to purchase gear for it to walk on water is on a par with having to buy gear for each flying mount if we want to get it off of the ground.

I wasn’t aware that a statement was a complaint, I do appreciate the clarification though.

Easy fix: roll a deathknight, shaman or hunter if you want to walk on water and use a different equipment piece.

Except it isn’t on all of your characters.

No, mount equipment is stupid.

Blizzard should stop designing game “systems” around minor non-issues.

we KNOW this isn’t correct.

No, it doesn’t.

The ww equipment functions differently to the striders ww ability.

Please, if you want to try to negate everything anyone says, at least know a little bit about what you’re trying to defend.

In a way, I kinda agree with you, but I kinda don’t, if that makes any sense. Mount Equipment seems like a good idea, but I think it is giving the devs more ideas to remove things from the games, such as profession recipes that allows people to be avoided to be dazed, and DK’s/Shamans water walking abilities.

But I could be wrong here.

Already requested many times.

Requesting it more, or agreeing in a thread, is moot. They already know people want this.

I disagree. The “problem” that mount equipment is designed to solve is removing the Water Strider from being the most used mount because of people who are too lazy to switch to the Water Strider just to cross water and then swap back to the mount of their choice everywhere else. Which simply shifts the “problem” from a specific mount to a specific piece of equipment.

Post 8.2 the complaint will become, “I can only use X equipment but I also need use Y and Z at specific times and to do so requires continually spending gold, swapping out equipment, and carrying stacks of equipment thus losing bag space.”

Players overuse the strider because they can’t be bothered to switch mounts, therefore forcing them to choose 1 item or constantly switch isn’t going to improve their gameplay.

The whole mount equipment system is a mistake.
It isn’t exciting, engaging, or creates new depth for the game.
It’s a system that since conception had no purpose, so the Dev team went ahead and manufactured a purpose for it. The plan is to take water walking from Water Striders, just to offer it back to players through the mount equipment system. Just to give the system they plan to introduce an excuse for existing in the first place.

What absolute absurdity. Imagine for a minute water walking was untouched, striders still had water walking, and water walking was not among the perks provided by this system. Do any of the other mock up equipment we’ve been shown so far seem even remotely desirable?
Barding and a slow fall … seriously. These are their aspirations for the system, giving us stuff we already have but in the form of equipment?

I can’t believe they are steamrolling this system through like this, didn’t they learn anything from players reception of Warfronts or the Azerite system?

  • At best the end result is nothing changes. You use the water walking equipment and everything is the same as it was before the systems introduction. (Pointless system? Shamans and DKs probably won’t use the Water walking equipment regardless as things currently stand)
  • At worst you use something other than the water walking equipment and end up with a Water Strider without water walking. An objectively worse situation compared to how the game functions for everyone today.

Considering the equipment is consumed on use. They are certainly going to manufacture a reason, either immediately or down the line, for players to change equipment instead of sticking with the same one forever. Be this through new equipment with just plain obscene perks or some other system that forces replacement of old equipment. Such as releasing “new” equipment in a patch that is a plain as day Version 2.0 and just straight up improves the function of already existing equipment E.g. Water Walking equipment Vs Water Walking + 10% mount speed equipment Vs Water Walking + 20% mount speed + Underwater Breathing!)

20% increase in mount speed sounds pretty cool to me, as well as the slow fall parachute for dismounting in the air since I could use it like a pseudo glider.

They also can add to this over time, though it’s main goal (from what I can tell) is to allow for all mounts to have nice QoL features, instead of just 1-2, so people have freedom of choice in what mount they want to use and what perk they want to take advantage of.

Only thing I wish it did differently is if the equipment was mount specific and account wide as opposed to it affecting all mounts and it being character specific.

Please knock off the accusations that others are being obtuse, when it is YOU that exemplifies that charge.

The list of why the strider will NOT be the same has been stated over and over and over again.

The explanations of how annoying the new WW ability is for certain mounts, has also been discussed, by people on the PTR.

This is a rotten change, and bliz is lulling you into overlooking the rotten change.

You are sticking your head in the sand, disregarding the history of this company’s misleading “gifts”, and swallowing their pitiful excuses with fanboy fervor.

A) Why can’t the original thread be un-locked. The size should not be a issue since the portal thread is sitting at 7k. 2k above the 5k the original post was.

B) If this thread was intended to be a re-make with permission from the Blue’s then a Blue poster should post here to replicate the symbol that was lost on the original thread. The blue post symbol means a lot to legitimizing this as a discussion. It really should be replaced as a symbol of good faith.

C) it is very sad that all discussion in these threads are seen as a Echo Chamber. When you are trying to convince Blizzard to change it’s mind or find another way before or after instituting a policy change that is often what these threads mimic. It is still very much a discussion even if we are talking to a wall that only listens and will not respond back. BTW we would love it if you responded back and participated, but we do understand your mission is not to poke the already angry bear. But please understand that the bear get just as agitated when it’s ignored.

As a side note: If Blizzard put’s this in and then does what I think they will do and take it away in the next expac I predict the internet will be broken from the sheer amount of times that I alone will type the phrase " I told you so!".

Good thing you get some of the perks of being a DK.

I get the mounted speed boost.
I get to walk on water
I get anti-daze as a blood dk
I also get to use the mount equipment to get slow fall if I dont want to use a glider

AND

I can use a 2 person mount or an AH mount (I dont have) or a vendor mount or a transmog mount.

A bunch of personal, nitpicky opinions are not facts.

I look forward to the new mount eq system, and also look forward to not seeing skittering bugs everywhere.

Just use the ww equipment and you have lost nothing and can even still use your strider…

This complaining is about the new thing not being as good as you want it to be. But hey, lets focus on why not have multiple equipment slots? That’s what I’d like to see. And I’ve had enough of the strider, been 6 years, let’s give it a rest.

Um, this is Blizzard you are talking about. Things go live with glaring issues, take months or over a year to get fixed, then get totally remade or scrapped the next expansion. Just look at Artifacts versus HoA.

  1. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
  2. Allow a larger variety of mounts to walk on water, hover over water, or swim at mount speed and the problem is solved in the most appropriate fashion.
