Motivation Killing SoM Character Deletion on Conclusion

Blizzard has confirmed that our SoM progression will not be carried over into any form of WoW other than the Classic ERA server which results in the standard Vanilla Experience.

So no option to continue on an SoM server. No option to roll into a BC SoM.

What are we doing this for? Where is the motivation to do all of this if it’s essentially deleted 12 months later?

Blizzard just killed off a good portion of the population today with that announcement.

There were a lot of people that thought it would be a great idea to have a rolling fresh experience similar to that of Diablo and their seasons. So blizzard made it. IDK if it is a good idea but it will happen and we will see.
I foresee it appealing to a very narrow player base and blizzard is putting a lot of effort into something that is halfway done and will appeal to even fewer people.

The purists hate it and the people that actually want good class design on top of the changes, dislike it.

Well to be fair, they said from the beginning that it would be a 12 month season. They never said “and then…” It’s literally in the name, SEASON of Mastery. As the previous poster said, it’s a nod to the Ladder resets from Diablo 2, which would wipe all progression and characters and everyone would start over anew.

The motivation is that people wanted fresh servers, people like starting fresh with a brand new economy and working their way up. It’s what many people were asking for towards the end of WoW Classic’s 22 month run (08/2019-06/2021). They wanted new servers and to start over.

I think what you need to ask yourself is what do YOU want? If you’re wanting to play TBC, I mean you can do that now, the servers are live.

Why would you ever assume there would be a TBC SoM?

Because it would be cool.

A pipe dream, but cool. Please let us continue on to fresh TBC realms in the very least. Declaring our characters dead after SoM is a very sad prospect indeed, truly making me question if it is worth it to play on this server or not. Prior to this confirmation I was quite excited.

If this is disposable content and experience, let’s go ahead and accelerate everything:

  • faster xp
  • increased raid drops
  • balanced classes

SoM sounds like a total waste of time since they’re trying to make it fast leveling, but hard raids…when people actually enjoyed the slower leveling and standard raids when people didn’t trivialize them with world buffs.

Why do leaves fall?

Why do people play Diablo 3 seasons every couple months?

Why were (are?) people playing private servers, jumping to a fresh roll each year.

Fresh is fresh, untouched economy, a chance to change main class, a chance to change faction or play focus.

If it’s not for you, that’s fine. There are plenty of other options for you.

That’s not an MMO.

The Buddha taught that the source of human suffering is that we crave and cling to the things of this world under the mistaken view that they will last forever. But nothing does.

Buddhism teaches us that impermanence, along with suffering, are two of the conditions that characterize all of life.

Maybe SoM can teach us all a little bit about ourselves.

This is both inappropriate and false. Other mmos that have offered classic experiences generally progress to subsequent expansions after the release of a new server. In this case, TBC would make perfect sense, seeing as how it has already been developed for classic.

I know this may come as a shocker to you, but World of Warcraft is far from the first game to do something like this.

TBC would not make perfect sense unless they wanted to split the population again and watch both projects die.

Blizz knows now that Classic Vanilla was a better bet.

A TBC SoM sounds awful, they’ll skip that and give us Wotlk classic and you’ll play it even if you’re mad.

Big nope for me. No progression from SoM = I’m done with this project.

The only exception would be if we got NEW content in Classic. New raids, new dungeons, balance, FACTION BALANCE, etc.

Otherwise, this marks the end of my WoW journey. See you in ArcheAge 2.

I would love an option to roll onto a BC server to then roll onto a Wrath server soon after. At least we get to use these characters for something else.

The loot is only HARDER to obtain in SoM. An SoM character rolling into BC only gets a disadvantage. There is absolutely no reason to stop this.

Give players the options to go to BC at the very least.

Only boomer players keep their characters like trophies.

What are you hoping for at the end? That your character is some sort of monument to your amazing accomplishments? It’s WoW. No one even cares about WoW, only us virgins who still play 20 years later.

Are you really trying to argue that vanilla wow raids aren’t trivial even without world buffs? The raid difficulty increase is a good thing imo.

Oh the sky is falling again today.

Ok bro don’t let the door hit you on the way out. You don’t need to keep posting how you don’t want to play. Why do you care so much that characters retire after the season? If you want to keep playing your character than go play tbc, it will move on to wrath. Everyone else will play som and understand that it’s a video game and having fun is their goal

Pretty much this. The people complaining aren’t even going to do the only meaningful thing that progresses from vanilla which is the scarab lord. Literally nothing else matters. If you want a tbc character just level on the tbc servers and by the time you hit 70 you will be in the same boat as if you played vanilla forever.
