I didn’t start until Wrath and my recollection is that Un’Goro was a great place to get thorium. I’ve made a few loops in classic and haven’t found all that much so my thought is that at some point blizz added more nodes. Would anyone happen to recall whether that was in TBC xor Wrath?
I think it was Cataclysm when they really upped the node spawns in the old world.
It’s also important to remember that there are a lot more people per server farming those nodes in Classic now, as they are the current materials compared to when you farmed them in Wrath. (Even in retail wow, one or two other farmers in the zone with you slows you down considerably.)

Unless you’re on a skewed/dead server looking for open world resources is an exercise in futility. It’s either heavily farmed/contested or controlled by bots.
You can run Dire Maul East for 2-3 Rich Thorium Veins every reset.

I actually have most luck out in EPL finding thorium. i usually find least one rich thorium every loop while finding herbs.

Blanchy is still plagued by ground hackers. If you sit on a RTV you can see it spawn and then despawn in a few seconds as the guy sitting under the node mines it away lol. It’s not as bad as it was but it still happens during the peak hours.
