Not the worst, but what was the most boring expansion of all time in your opinion?
To me its Dragonflight, with WoD close behind.
Dragonflight has by far the most boring story. It’s so irrelevant in the big wow picture.
Really nothing to do outside of raids, M+, and pvp.
The only time i did a lot of m+ was S3, because the DF’s dungeons are pretty bad.
DF is the expansion ive play the least since wod.
The only redeeming thing of DF is something that has nothing to do with it. Remix.
Remix is absolutely amazing. its the most fun ive had in wow since legion.
Cant wait for the next Remix!
People make a big deal about how much they dislike DF’s story, but you can’t say that they didn’t at least attempt to keep the content flowing. Even if you didn’t care for the world events and stuff.
My opinion is…that you have poor taste in x-packs.
If we are going for “boring” I would vote for Wraith or MoP because both of those had EXTREMELY long content droughts where I literally had nothing to do. Heck, MoP literally had over a year with no new content.
Either way they all pretty much lasted a full year give or take a couple of months with nothing else for us to do besides run alts or play other games until the next expansion .
10ish months is the norm. Adding “fated” and “awakened” with no new raid tier doesn’t change that. Antorus, Nyalotha, Selpucher, Amirdrissil all fall into that range.
I don’t think Dragonflight is boring but it’s definitely lower stakes.
What I really want people to remember is that Dragonflight is lower stakes by design. Blizzard didn’t magically forget how to tell a story that felt “relevant”.
But think about where it is falling in the timeline:
After Shadowlands (a threat to the universe itself)
Before War Within (a cosmic threat to Azeroth that is also our version of FFXIV’s Endwalker)
I think we needed some narrative downtime or the game would feel more insane than it already does.
Also, I like Dragonflight! I like that more focus was shifted to the setting this time out and there was a lot to do in the world. I’m interested in seeing how this expansion’s design will be iterated on going forward.
Anyway my personal vote for most boring is Shadowlands. Oh, sure, it was a high-stakes story but I felt bored while still leveling and quit for most of it, only coming back when it was nearly over. It’s the only expansion I ever felt bored with while still leveling.
WoD was boring because we ran out of things to do. If WoD were made today by the current devs and their mindsets, we’d still have plenty of things to do, so maybe it’d be a lot better?
You paid absolutely no attention to the story if you think it has no connection to the larger narrative. You’re going to be completely dumbfounded when Iridikron shows up later.
And it’s hilarious to see someone say there’s nothing to do outside of group content. I’ve done very little group content and spent a lot of time overwhelmed and not knowing what to focus on. There’s tons of world content.
The most boring expansion is probably Warlords of Draenor, but I had some fun with every expansion and tend to remember the things I like more than what I disliked, so it’s hard to choose. If I’m getting bored with an expansion, I’ll just take a break and come back for the next patch.
I probably took the most breaks in Warlords of Draenor and Shadowlands.
