Yeah, it’s no longer instant, but there are ways you can still get it pretty damn in-sync.
The real shock of multiboxing when software was allowed was the perfectly timed abilities landing at the same time, impossible for anyone to heal.
Even as a multiboxer, I thought that was pure BS and needed regulation, and was the basis for why I refused to use any multiboxing for PVP. Finally Blizzard grew a pair and regulated it, all too late.

Really nice to have a mage on a 2nd account to port your main around.
Mages in classic are super lazy / nonresponsive regardless of how much you tip.
Even on full servers it’s sometimes hard to get groups for low level dungeons unless your lucky enough to find a good levelling guild.
I have no problems at all paying for another account if it means my alts get to get geared properly while levelling.
Yeah, they have to pay multiple sub fees.
There are two advantages, that I’m aware of.
It allows you to run two characters simultaneously. For example, you could use a lvl 70 on one account to boost your low level character on another account.
The second is that it enables you to transfer funds between your horde and alliance characters through the neutral AH. But honestly, the AH cut is so outrageous this simply isn’t advised.
One final note: On my server we have a notorious player who also seems to be a bit of a whale. Every time he gets banned on one account, he just sets up a new account and starts trolling again. This isn’t a good use of multiple accounts, for many, many reasons. But it seems to be a thing.
Its shocking to me that people don’t know this… That they don’t know they can buy new accounts with and pay for them with Battlnet balance via gold selling on the AH.
I figure, if the bots are gonna do it, I can too.
I farm legally tho, no botting no scams.
Hell you can even PAY for the TBC boost and all the goodies if you wanted via Battlenet balance.
Its the dark secret of some of the die hard raid loggers of classic. Retail sucks, grrrrr! evil retail.

Like in the pre-release hype I woke up a 2nd account. Some goals may need more than the time left. 1 month was bought for time.
I go an easy out here. 2nd account makes a retail char. Char meets this accounts bank alt in SW. Transfer gold…and the 2nd account token buys.
If main account styed sub…I could get the token money back. Hell this account runs till June 8th barringn some need to turn on autopay. It could make a few tokens if motivated by then.
It’s actually amazing when your group is taking forever to fill. Instead of sitting there I just tab over and do a little farming.
So much utility. Solo Summons @ stone, creating instance / raid group, disenchanting bot, farming while waiting for groups / raids to fill / form, having a alt in raid who is not in combat to allow certain group swap macros to run for hero/lust switches. Preemptively having characters at a summoning stone for raid instance swapping (SSC => TK; MTH=> BT).
People already mentioned being able to carry / run yourself through lower level or more difficult content.
From a role-playing perspective, it doesn’t provide anything, but from a min-max or efficiency/completionism perspective its very useful.
