I originally thought 40% increased quest xp would be enough to make SoM worth playing, even though many guildies and friends told me it’s not enough to make them switch from playing TBC classic or other games. Now I’ve played WoW since early 2005 and have leveled every single class to max level in Vanilla, TBC, and WotLK, with some classes being maxed out in Cataclysm, WoD, BFA, Shadowlands, as well as WOW Classic and TBC Classic; now in 2021 as an adult with far less time to play video games this means that I do not have the time nor the desire to spend 1-3 months leveling a character to 60 to participate in SoM raiding.
I was interested in SoM when I learned they were fixing a lot of issues like world buffs, boosting, and easy raids, so I gave it a shot and played the first day it launched, only to realize that leveling was still taking forever, even with the 40% increased quest xp. I quit playing after the realization that it would still take 2 or even 3 months for me to get to 60, and can’t help but wonder if many gamers like myself who are interest in SoM would be more willing to play if the quest xp rewards were increased to 100% (double quest xp).
This increase to 100% quest xp wouldn’t make the leveling process feel ridiculous because even if you play SoM 3-4 hours a night after work, it would still take you around 3 to 4 weeks to hit lv 60, thus not trivializing the leveling aspect of the game. It would still take effort to get to 60 without the leveling grind feeling endless and torturous to do. Also this would allow players who enjoy leveling to still feel like there’s a grind to get to 60 and not something that can be done in a day.
Some players may feel like increasing the bonus quest xp by 100% is too much, but it’s important to remember that SoM has a time limit, the season only lasts a set amount of time before it’s over and everything is reset back to zero. Therefore it’s important to allow players who don’t have as much time to level to be able to get to 60 so they can experience the raids that have been changed.
I would much prefer the bonus XP to go strictly to killing mobs. I love just grinding out levels going from mob to mob. Coordinating quest turn-ins and having to walk across the map is the most boring aspect of the game.
Go back to retail
The only thing they need to change is increase the drop rate on quest items.
people on my server are like 45+ right now. stop whining about exp gain
Sure, the people who have zero responsibilities and nothing else going on in their life. Plus I’m not whining, merely making an observation and letting blizzard know how they could get more people to play SoM. It honestly doesn’t matter to me, I tried SoM and stopped playing, so I literally do not care anymore.
No, just no.
its so fast tho. ive gotten to level 20 in ~3 days of casual play (few hours a night) while dcking around with professions and farming cloth for a few hours also
You do care though. You wouldn’t be here complaining about it if you weren’t jealous of others out leveling you.
40% on quests is garbo. It’s barely noticeable and in the end only makes the 1-60 experience ~15% faster. Which is still far too long. Great it’s only gonna take the average player 5 days played instead of 6 days played to get 60…
There were tons of people who pointed it out in beta and I’m honestly surprised it wasn’t changed along with the other various qol changes they did.
I’ll level to 60 regardless but it is true that the 40% increase to quest experience doesn’t amount to much. They will likely try to wait until season 2 to make changes that they should have launched SoM with. However, by then there will be even less players returning.
You can boost in Shadowlands and TBC go play those and stop trying to ruin our game.
I agree with this statement.
“some players” means “me”. No one cares what you want.
No.
Next.
vanilla fresh will always have an audience
No, they would just hit MC faster and unsub. We’ve literally seen how this plays out everytime. Nothing about leveling faster has ever led to an increase in sub numbers, not once.
They should have included mob xp as well. Some of the zones are so packed that any speed increase from the 40% Buff to quest XP is negated by how long it takes to do said quests.
With the crap design of Vanilla questing (low drop rates, no shared tagging, limited mob spawns, etc.) if a quest hub was over run back in the day I would just grind non-quest mobs until things cleared up. While I can still do that now it feels wrong since the Bonus only comes from quest turn ins.
even more people will play if you let the individual choose from 0% to 100%
Leveling is the game. Why would you speed it up and have a dead world just like in tbc due to the boosts?
